Beautiful door and I completly agree with wood choice for a black opaque stained door that will mask species. Superb wood work, design, and craftsmanship congratulations. Ray
Hi 👋, Black Forest Wood Co, A stunning looking 👀 Ash Door, Great Work Guys, As for thé colour, that is personal preference, I like both, As I am a specialist joiner cabinet maker with approximately 50 years of work behind me , I have clients that want cabinets and furniture and doors made out of natural wood so they can see the grain , and likewise I’ve done things in black or even a white tint, but you can still see the grain through it, Another great job to your portfolio, I wish you all the success for the future, you’re saying you’re buying a SCM surface finish in the machine. I think that’s what you said., it’s well worth paying the extra for the servicing each year, so it is correctly calibrated, Highly recommended , Great territorial, I look 👀 forward to seeing your next project, Stay Safe, Phil from the moulin France
Wow! That is stunning - again, the attention to detail, by all of you, is impeccable! I think I get my sense of appreciation for all things beautiful and well-made from my mother! She built her own weaving loom when she was probably in her late 50s or early 60s and wove some neat stuff. She was also a welder at the shipyards here in Ontario during WW11!
Not many people have one-of-a-kind custom heirloom quality doors on their houses. Personally, the first epoxy exterior door you all made was more to my taste, but I understand that everyone has their preferences. Nice seeing that this type of quality work still exists in North America.
Artwork - just magnificent craftsmanship by BFWC crew. Quality is a time-consuming process. I believe the black stain (with the species of wood) make the grain pop with more clarity. I know your dad (Brad) started the company with building doors but he has to be proud on what you and your younger crew have brought to the business. I still say some day I will own or win a piece of BFWC artwork. Stay safe.
Another stunning door from BFWC. I agree with staining the door black, it really emphasizes. the beautiful grain of the Ash. It all works so well together, the Ash, the brass, the resin, making a cohesive collection of parts to form a perfect and unique door. Thank you for sharing, cudos to the whole team . Hoping you Guys are not impacted by those terrible forest fires over there. Cheers Michael.
Another awesome door project . The craftsman ship that goes into these doors is absolutely amazing. Recently when I was in the Black Forest store in Calgary. I had the opportunity to meet Brad and Dylan oh and Charlie. These guys are the best and friendless people you’ll ever meet. Thanks for everything. John from PEI
Light colored hardwood, Ash, especially, is like a blank canvas. It's such a simple, neutral wood, I think it's hard to ruin it. It's not particularly beautiful in itself usually, so I find the black stain to be quite beautiful. Keep it up!
that brass finish is really nice. I've been into using brass more in my work. I think it's the nicest looking metal, personally. I wish the rest of the house was as beautiful as the door!
Absolutely love this project! You guys really deliver the quality work! Question: Don't you get micro bubbles from pouring without sealing the wood with epoxy?
Thanks so much! We initially get some bubbles but our Black Forest Resins is slow curing so over the 7 days it takes to cure, the bubbles all dissipate!
K like both black and clear. Clear to me is traditional, but the black makes it prominent. You do beautiful work. I personally wish I had even a small portion of your space and tools, and helpers. Because maybe I could be your competitor. Lol. My projects are complicated, not simple, but I do what I can do with small tools, limited space, and very little assistance. Would love to visit your shop sometime.
Again, another masterpiece, I must comment on the fact that you are right about what the client wants. I work in South Africa and so boat renovations, and if a client wants his boat a special way we oblige him. No matter what you guys do to wood it looks magnificent and the wood still looks amazing. Bravo another fantastic job.
That is an absolutely beautiful door, such a piece of art!!😊 I really love how the black and brass play off of the burl pieces in the resin. Just stunning🎉🎉
I think the black looks great!! The grain of the wood is not hidden and it makes the entire piece look uniform in color. (If you want to call black a color!?!?). Not easy to do with with glued up panels where each panel may take the stain different. I like your thinking and logic!!
A stunning combination of materials all coming together for a rich looking door. Would you be kind enough to pass along the information on where I could purchase the brass finish used on the door .Thanks.
Beautiful work. Quick question, weren't you worried about wood movement with putting the solid, flat sawn ask overtop of the stable interior? It would seem to me that there would be no opportunity for the lumber to move with it glued down to the stable interior material.
My hubby built us a beautiful solid oak mission style table & chairs. It is finished with water based varathyan. It needs to be sanded down and refinished. I love the way you finish and add ceramic. Coating. How do you do that? 😊
It's up to the customer to decide how to finish the wood, doesn't matter what anyone else thinks ... I just smile because black ash chipboard was all the rage many years ago then fell out of favour, now seemingly it's back 😁 Another beautiful door ... personally I'm not keen on the brass edge, it'd have been better all black ash ... but everyone has different tastes 👍
Team Black, but especially if it's naturally black wood. The black ash is amazing, but nothing can beat the natural color of wood. I want to see a door with skins made of African Blackwood or Gaboon Ebony. And also, thanks to RUclips Garrett will never live it down. Sorry Garrett, but here's to a couple of the funniest moments on the entire RUclips channel.
I think the black stain has its perks. There is something cool looking about the black with the wood grain showing. But I also am a natural color guy. While there are multiple reasons you would choose a wood for a certain project, one of the reasons for me is the look and color of the wood. So I like to keep the wood natural. I don't woodwork, this is just from a consumer standpoint.
Another home run. Beautiful design, solid construction and quality workmanship. Never thought I would be a fan of the black, but it works. and the brass.... wow. Just out of curiosity is the design you and the client or is an architect involved?
It’s a very handsome door. I’m curious: With a one week cure time, in a working shop, how do you keep dust from settling on the resin? As far as the black goes, it’s a stain. The beauty of the grain is still visible. As you say, each to their own.
I am not Team Solid Black, BUT - you don't lose the vision of the wood grain with this kind of staining process. For people who like a more modern or Japanese minimalism appearance, this is exactly the way I would go. Yes, the process is important to us makers, but the consumer really just cares about the aesthetic.
I was one of those that didn’t like wasting beautiful grainy hardwood by using a heavy dark paint. BUT the piece I was referring to was black walnut or Cherry. Ash to me is a working hardwood and it’s grain is usually a straight grain which gives it strength and keeps it from warping. Besides even though it’s dark the grain shows through. As usual this door looks uniquely beautiful with your trademark perfection. I was remodeling a house in Beverly Hills in 2003 and the owner had ordered a custom wooden exterior door. I told him it’s not sheltered enough from the elements. It’s going to warp and it did. I know this door is sheltered but some haven’t been. What do you do to keep your exterior wood doors from warping?
I think the black looks great but I don't line the brass, especially the horizontal brass strips. They just make it too busy for my taste but I'm not stroking the check so...
I deal on antiques so my choices of stain are biased. I’m refinishing a late 1800s door that has a dark oak finish, so my choices for stains are walnut, mahogany and dark oak. The door is going on my 1920 house.
I don't mind the black, but if the end look is the goal you may just as well use pine than the ash which could be finished off in far more beautiful ways. Each to their own though.
Are they happy with the way the resin is fairly transparent? From the start of the video I thought it was going to be way way darker but at the end you could literally see through it really well. I bet you could read a newspaper through it. Hopefully that's what they were looking for 😅
Also; what does a door like this cost ?? Obviously its not your standard door and has a lot of processes to it ! Love the door; I would be team both !! Like the black and the natural colour !!
I can see why your customers want dark pigments in the resin. It really makes the burl pop but not coming at you and obnoxious. Are these doors maintenance free? How long of a warranty does your company offer your clients? How about your furniture and dining room tables? This is fascinating to watch the process of ideas to finished project. Say hi to charlie for me. lol I forgot to ask, does Black Forest Wood Co make doors and furniture out of teak wood?
Very beautiful door. Not sure why some get exercised about black stain - the wood grain still shows through - personal taste. It’s not as if you are black staining magnificent spalted wood!
Regarding the black stains, it's all about preferences AND a coherent look with the rest of the house. I personally like it a lot and think it gives a moderne look the the wood furnitures. Everybody tastes are not alike.
I rarely or never comment on a YT video, but now I feel I’ve have to. I work in construction myself, and never I’ve been feeling need to explain the reason of cost. The piece or work will talk for itself. The moment you feel the need to explain to not Even the customer, but auidience why the price is What it is, you have lost. ( my opinion) 😊 I appecitate you guys share all your work, but pleas, pleas, dont use this channel to make excuse why your work/piece i expensive. Those who us appriciate ur work already/should understand!! Best regards ur fan!😊
As someone who has sold custom wood exterior doors, the only thing you (customer and manufacturer) is to take exposure direction and darkness of colour into account. expansion and contraction may end up taking a few years to take effect on the door. Just something to watch out for in the coming years.
Beautiful door. Love the horizontal design of the wood panels. Staining wood is personal preference. I really don’t mind the black, the wood grain is still visible. It’s definitely a classy look. Would I do it, absolutely if it fit a design I was going for. ❤🧡💛🤎
With the "black wood", you are still accentuating the grain. Each to their own, neither is better, though I do delight in the accenting of the woods natural beauty
TEAM BLACK OF COURSE! IT'S SEXY AND REALLY BRINGS OUT THE DESIGN OF THE BURL WOOD IN THE SMOKEY RESIN. LOVE THE DOOR!!!

Awesome craftsmanship. Will be an amazing legacy!
Absolutely beautiful door. Looks like the epoxy may have turned out a little more translucent than what was described as the intended color.
beautiful work guys!
Thanks Greg!
Thanks for a great video!!! It's always a pleasure to watch true craftsmen making complicated tasks look easy!!! Appreciate the great content.
Thanks so much John!
Team Black
Wow, that looks amazing.
That is an awesome looking door, well done guys!!
Thank you Fred!
Keep doing what your doing on the black stain. I like the grain popping out of that Ash. I think it looks great.
Wow!! 😍 amazing work. Fits the home beautifully and what a view!
Thanks Sarah! And yes, what a view indeed!!
Wow!!
That’s a very beautiful art
Thank you so much 😀
Beautiful door and I completly agree with wood choice for a black opaque stained door that will mask species. Superb wood work, design, and craftsmanship congratulations. Ray

What I like with the stain is a few minutes (1-2) is clean the excess stain to see the grain of the wood appear, darker with black veining.
Crushed it! If the customer wants it black make it black … period.
My hubby built us a beautiful solid oak mission style table & chairs. It is finished with water based varathyan. It needs to be sanded down and refinished. I love the way you finish and add ceramic. Coating. How do you do that? 😊

How about cactus furniture ? Also, can you show us how to place the hinges ?

Gorgeous. Is it possible to make a front door like you do the river tables? Would that work or would it warp?
We've done that! ruclips.net/video/TvDhM6He84g/видео.html
Team both black and clear
Can I ask what is the name of that "beam" you mention ? A micro ??? beam !!
"The customer is always right." Period.

Just something to watch out for in the coming years.
is uv stable epoxy easy to work with?
Yes, it shouldn't be any harder tham regular epoxy! We used our Black Forest Deep resin which is the same one we use for the tables!
That's a see-through door. Looks great but perhaps the grey shade could have been a shade darker.
You don't want an exterior door shining like a spotlight. Also, how many houses have a complementary exterior for natural wood.
10 * !
for ages I wondered what bat-stone walnut was and just found out its actually Bastogne so thanks for that, eh
I m right here

One last question, how important are the hinges for an door ?
With the "black wood", you are still accentuating the grain. Each to their own, neither is better, though I do delight in the accenting of the woods natural beauty
Nice looking door. Perhaps invest in a better commentary mic, sounds muffled. The video sound is a lot clearer 😊👍
Woof.
