I was fortunate to meet Gary one time at spring training when he was a commentator for the Marlins. All I could say is went out of his was to sign an autograph for me. He was true class and left us way too soon.
I immigrated to Canada and lived in Montreal when I was a young child. We didn't have any baseball in the country I grew up in. I fell in love with baseball quickly, and it was Gary Carter, more than any other single person, that I looked up to as a hero. As I grew older and Gary Carter left the Expos, I still followed his career. Although you can never really be sure about the personality of a celebrity, I always had the certainty that Gary Carter was a class act. I loved his determination to give 100% of his effort all the time. I loved how his eyes got so wide every time he took a swing. And I also loved how he smiled all the time. Gary, you were a class act and an inspiration to me and to many others. I hope that if I make it to heaven, I'll have a chance to meet you there.
So well said. I grew up in the Albany NY area and would make the trip to the Big O when the Mets were visiting the Expo's. Gary would beat the heck out of the Mets. When he was traded to the Mets I made sure I'd be in the stands for opening day at Shea 1985. In typical Carter fashion he walked it off with a line drive homer in the bottom of the 10th. He still is my favorite player today. May he rest in peace.
I became a Mets fan, because of Gary Carter, after the Expos were gone, even though he had retired a long time before that. As a 9 year old kid in 1986 playing baseball, the Mets were legendary for that 1986 World Series win, and I could not forget that since Carter was instrumental in that win. Carter was a legend in Montreal, and when he left, everybody was broken hearted.
40 year old Mets fan here. Thanks for wearing your heart on your sleeve, Gary... Wish more human beings lived their lives as you did. RIP, Kid. Mets fans (and baseball fans all over) will never forget you.
I am a lifelong Braves fan but I always looked up to this guy. Guys like Murphy, Schmidt, Carter, etc are who really shaped my baseball fandom as a young child and still to this day. He was a helluva player, but an even better guy. He'll be greatly missed.
His speech was one of a kind. From a fan point of view, Gary Carter was a classy player and a true represntative of what a team player is, and what a family man should be. I know Jesus was very proud of his life. People like Gary Carter are an inspiration to others and allows them to make changes in their lives for the best. Rest in Peace. I will see you one day in Glory.
all the great.players who played for the expos none compare to gary carter. thanks gary u always be the face of expo franchise. thank u. at 1981 all star game u put the expos on the map
What a lovely induction speech. It's so obvious how much Gary Carter loved baseball, the Lord and his family. A classy guy ... always! As a long-time Expos fan Gary Carter will always be our #1 man. Rest in Peace ... you left all of us far too soon.
Thank you, Gary Carter, for being a great baseball player and an even greater human being off the field. You always gave my aunt Tracy happiness no matter where you played, and always made her day when you stopped for a photo opportunity or autograph. If only I could've met you before you passed in 2012; my life would've been complete in knowing I met a human being with a beautiful soul. All I can say for you, "The Kid," is that you are having a blessed life on the other side with your parents and The Lord. May you rest in peace...
Loved the energy he brought to the Expos, but so glad he got that World Series ring with the Mets. He really was the Kid - when the Mets won Game 6 in '86, he was like a kid in a candy store!
I met Gary Carter in 1986 , August 30 , I was 12 years old, it was at shea in NY before the game that day against the Dodgers, I had won a raffle at Genoese drug store in NY to meet cater and some other Mets players, and I got to go on the field with all the other people that won the raffle to. I remember Gary Carter coming out to meet us and everyone went crazy and was all over him hundreds of kids and they parents, he was so nice to all of us crazy New Yorkers, he signed autographs that day and took a picture with everyone, I was 12 years old, And I acknowledge how patient he was and polite with everyone. I realize now today how he represent himself as as a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ. He had the spirit of Jesus Christ living in him . Thank you Gary Carter for your love and loyalty to Jesus Christ! ✝️❤️✝️
GARY CARTER WAS A GREAT PERSON FIRST THEN WAS A GREAT PLAYER ...IF HE WOULD HAVE HAD THE CHANCE TO MANAGE THE METS THEY WOULD HAVE WON AGAIN THAN YOU GARY IN MY BOOK YOU ARE THE BESTBASEBALL PLAYER
That would have been good if you didn't cut the french speaking part Gary did to the french Canadian baseball fans. He respected all fans as you should do.
Has Gary shut up yet? They gave everyone a 15 minute window, CARTER asked for more. He loved himself, his voice, his whole being-his world was incomplete w/out GARY CARTER. How did the world ever survive WITHOUT Gary "The Kid Never Shuts Up Carter."

A Great player, A great coach, A great man. R.I.P.
Sad he's no longer with us. A great player and an even greater man.
So, so sad. 57 is far too young.
R.I.P., Kid, and thanks for '86 from a Mets fan who was 8-years old at the time.
The player you tell your young kids to play and act like still to this day.
Loved watching him as a kid, but don’t think I fully comprehended what a great man he was until I became an adult. You are missed Gary.

RIP Gary Carter, coming from a 18 year old Mets fan. Wish I got to see you play in person, such a great guy.

Merci Gary pour les merveilleux souvenirs que tu nous laisses ici à Montréal. Les légendes ne meurent jamais. Pour toujours dans nos coeurs.
Il etait un des meillures. RIP, Kid. 😢
Gary was loved in NY/MON like Tony Gwynn to us in SD. Both HOF caliber men off the field as well. Gone too soon. RIP.

"The Kid", never forgotten. A player and legend through and through. He will be missed. The heart of the Montreal Expos!
Hall of Fame player. An even better human being. Heaven has gained an angel and we here left on earth are the poorer for it. R.I.P.

this was one of the most stirring and thoughtful speeches I've watched. God bless the Kid.

Secretarian Yep after all he's the one who started that Epic rally!

R.I.P. Kid. He may have gone into the Hall as an Expo, but he went into Heaven as a Met.

Ralph kiner picked his nose lol

What a moronic comment. He spent much of his speech thanking others. You should wish you were half the person he was.
Chill out bro. It’s not that deep
