As a non-Padre fan, this goes up with one of the better HOF speeches. Shows it wasn't about him it was about everybody he crossed paths with ordering his journey.
That voice!!! Not only was easily hands down the best hitter in my lifetime. His voice was so distinct. Loved hearing him in interviews and this speech.
He just sounds so friendly. It is absolutely uncanny listening to his son speak. If you close your eyes, you’d have no idea it’s the son and not the father.
As a die hard and I mean die hard Giants fan, I absolutely loved every chance I gotta see this man hit. What and absolute treasure. Greatest hitter of the modern era
I had the unexpected privilege of watchingTony's first game as a Padre. I was on a house hunting trip to San Diego and decided to catch a Padres' game that evening. On the way to Jack Murphy Stadium, I was listening to Jerry Coleman's pre-game radio show. Jerry was talking about Tony's batting ability and how we were going to love watching him. He said: "This young man could fall out of bed and bat .350!!" He was so right. Tony Gwynn throughout his career was the embodiment of what the wonderful game of baseball is all about. R.I.P. Tony.
Tony Gwynn was the best Padres player ever. Miss you Tony Gwynn!!! Love you forever Mr. Padre!! Wish I could've met you! Always in my heart! See you in heaven Tony
I was there on that day. Amazing batter. His numbers don't lie. Incredible lifetime average: .338 And look at his highest producing years: .351, .370, .336, .358, .394 and on and on. It's just insane in this day and age.
@@mikeshoe74 He was something special. I love watching him hit. By the way .289 is great for a rookie as you are just starting out and learning the pitchers etc.
In 1996 Tony got the game winning hit to clinch a tie for the NL West Division Title. The next day brother Chris Gwynn got the game winning hit to win it. Against LA.
I’m a life long Padre fan, my first game was in 98 and Tony Gwynn homered in that game, I was his fan for life following that! Very few people meant as much to the city of San Diego than him!
The only year I went to Cooperstown was 2007, a month after his induction. It gave me a true appreciation of how great Tony really was. Wow, what a class act.
12:34 ❤❤❤ Tony and the boys, are all back in town! We enjoy wiffle ball, fishing, camping, and helping out the locals , out here in Everett wa. What we really enjoy, is these videos, and joking , while making silly songs, and cooking up biscuits n gravy. The old adage “here’s one for the gipper “ comes to mind. I see you, “uncle Tony” and we can’t wait to hug y’all , during the rapture. These are the hidden gems, that god wants me to tap into. Good on ya Tony ! We love you, and god bless San Diego! Go Padres ! God is good ! Let’s eat ! Xo Joe DRT aka your future son in law 😅 #rojoforever #baseballforever #giveittogod
Tony's the only celebrity/athletes I remember who literally never got into any trouble or ever had a negative word spoken about him. He's the man
The greatest hitter of the modern era of baseball.
Kyle W Hytonen no doubt
Yes
I want to thumbs up your comment, but I feel its better to leave it at 19 in honor of the late great legend that is Tony Gywnn
He and Wade Boggs.
Greatest hitter ever
Mr. Tony Gwynn is the dictionary definition of class, grace, dignity and strength.

Not just a Hall of Fame player, but most importantly a Hall of Fame man! RIP Mr Padre

Still my hero. 2nd to my Pops. Rest easy, King.
God never made a better man. Way to go GOD.
I will love Tony Gwynn forever. My childhood hero. A natural at hitting and overall a most outstanding human being.
I read a stat Tony Gwynn had more 4-hit games than multi-strikeout games. I'm not even sure my brain can process that. That's absolutely insane!
@@3Brandon11 in 20 years he struck out 434 times!!! That's 21 times he struck out a season...That's also INSANE!!!
@@3Brandon11 My god that is crazy!!! 😳
Tony got hits #2000 & #3000 on Mom's birthday. God Bless them both.

TG is highly respected in San Diego
Such a great guy. He was happy just being there. He was as good as ripken, but just didn't mind not being the superstar even though he was.
Class act and best hitter in my lifetime. RIP Tony.
I cant stop crying....
Damn it I miss this man. RIP Tony. San Diego misses you.
Tony more than deserved the Hall of Fame! Still miss him!
I remember this! I visited the Hall about 2 months after his induction speech! :) R.I.P. Tony Gwynn! Baseball fans will never forget you!

Tony's picture is in the dictionary Next to the definition of what a Great Man and person is suppose to be. Simply pure class .
If you are a young man who wants to make a difference, emulate Tony Gwynn. It will never fail you. Tony Gwynn is a treasure.
I currently live about 10 minutes away from Cooperstown NY, if only I lived here during Tony’s induction. You will be missed #19
I had 2 Season tickets to Azteck basketball for Tony’s senior season. Fantastic man in every way. God Bless Tony and his family.

Miss you Tony! 😢🙋🏻♂️
One of my favorites athletes. Tony Gwynn was such a great player and he was even a better human being. Total class act and a role model to all of us.
As Bill James would say... A Better Man than a ballplayer.
And he was one helluva ballplayer.
Thank you Anthony Keith Gwynn.
Best player I've ever seen, RIP Tony

I heard a radio show of Bob Costas years ago and he had Tony Gwynn and Ted Williams. What a treasure to hear that.
Class act….focused, disciplined & hard Working, every baseball player can learn something from this man. RIP Tony Gwynne

I am so glad that I got to grow up during the time Tony was playing.
A stand up man, player. Pure class.
My childhood hero . RIP Mr. Padre
Love you Gwynn forever 19 ⚾️⚾️⚾️⚾️
Hard to believe he is no longer here today. When you think of the San Diego Padres, the first name that pops up is Tony Gwynn and then Trevor Hoffman.
Thanks to Houston Astros videos are ban in baseball, but Tony gave a advise about used videos in his great baseball career! RIP Tony!
You're a class act buddy

what hall fame Liam Hendriks 😊🎉❤ australian baseball player number 16
Tolan had the potential to be a HOFer. Injuries can be a bitch...
Anyone notice dude sleeping at 1345 when he's talking about ozzie?
Dude was having a great time 😂
He has extremely tiny hands.
For that ultra-quick bat speed 😅
