I am a Yankee fan but will always love Mike Piazza for giving us the greatest distraction with his home run to win the game at a time when New York is needed it the most the first game after 9/11 played in New York.......
He'll be beloved forever by Baseball fans after the 9/21/01 performance. I watched that game live, but for 10 days up to that game I had problems sleeping, working, and talking. I became a shell of myself because of being so emotionally distraught, and the PTSD didn't help matters. To this day I still cry when I think about it..... my point is this..... I'm no Baseball guru, sure I love sports, but Baseball wasn't my favorite. The night New York played Atlanta I was drained beyond words and watched it because I needed to....Mike Piazza is just a Baseball player who had an excellent career.... but on that night.... at that time.... under those circumstances......let it be known God The Father allowed that miracle to take place for millions of people to witness....and it couldn't have come from a better human being. I'll always be thankful to Mike for allowing me, if even it was for a brief moment, to have 5 minutes of happiness. To this day it's something I will never forget......God Bless!
Mike Piazza got the Christopher Reeve Superman hairdo going on. He definitely was our Superman for those years. If only we had Ken Griffey Jr with us in 2000 could have pulled off the big one.
As a kid growing up as a Dodger fan (still a Dodger fan) my favorite player was Mike Scioscia, one night I went to a Dodger game, and Scioscia, was not in the starting lineup I was upset, instead a catcher they had just called up from the minors was the starting catcher, he also hit his first career HR, that was Mike Piazza. Became a big Piazza fan eventually, and still say trading Piazza was one of he worst trades the Dodgers ever made.
Man i wish i was there for this. We went to Cooperstown for fun but the guys that got in wasnt any huge star. This was 2010. Obviously the guys that got in were great but i cant remember. Piazza so deserved this his 911 home run is so classic. Didn't mike marry the playmate of the century. Miles dad is loaded and has 6 boys he was also best friends with tommy lasorda. I feel bad some haters say he got special treatment bc of lasorda yes he got him into baseball but all his accomplishments are all his own. Mike is pure class so cool he thanked all the guys that helped him im surprised him and reggie went in the hall as ny teams. Mike had great years with the dodgers reggie with oakland. Reggie and mike got so much more spot light as ny players. Wow what a crowd. The hall is in ny so of course its flooded with people. Ny fans are the most intelligent. Did he say hes the only met in the hof? Thats pretty shocking. That mets team in 86 was amazin but sadly strawberry snd gooden who were on their way to the hall but drugs ruined their career. If kieth hernandez is in i guess hed go in as another team same as gary carter. That 86 mets team had it all. Ok im crying listening to him cry about his dad who seems like such a wonderful dad
Mike Piazza really is a first class gentleman . He worked his a... off ; & became the best catcher to hit for power. Beautiful swing , & his homer 9/11 is legendary . Watched him play at Dodger Stadium . Movie star handsome . Great family man . Well done Sir ! 😉👍
26:43 is a shot at the writers who prevented him from being a first ballot because he “might” have done steroids. Meanwhile, other players definitely did juice, the writers knew it, yet were still first ballot. One of the best quotes because in history because it takes a shot at losers who criticize but have never known victory that comes from sacrifice.
I never forgave the Dodgers for Trading Mikey to The Marlins! I would shout at Todd Hunley that he sucks! I would yell at Him and say YOUR NOT GOOD ENOUGH TO BE A DODGER! I mean I would wear my Dodgers Jersey to the game with tepe threw The Dodgers name! Fucking Dodgers traded Mike for Trash like Gary S. And Bobby Bo, and Todd Hunley and some over the Hill pitcher! Way to go DODGERS!
He's remembered as a Met. His most iconic moments were as a Met. 8 years with the Mets.... Mike Piazza himself asked to be inducted as a Met. Did you listen to his speech? He mentioned only Mets fans. He's a Met till the day he dies.
Well Ron Cey's number, Willie Davis' number, Steve Garvey's number, Davey Lopes' number, and Maury Wills' number aren't retired either.....so what's your point???
This is one of the best HOF induction speeches. Mike we weren't hostile Phillies fans. We were just jealous that your Dad was friends with another Pennsylvanian who guided you to LA instead of the Phillies.
Well deserved" Mike Piazza is one of the Top Catchers of all time. He definitely deserves to be inducted into the Hall Of Fame!
I'm from Syracuse been a Mets fan since I can remember I was 14 when he hit that home run on 9/21/01 and i cried like a newborn baby
This was a beautiful speech, I'm a Braves fan but I've always respected and admired Mike, he's the best hitting catcher I've ever seen
I am a Yankee fan but will always love Mike Piazza for giving us the greatest distraction with his home run to win the game at a time when New York is needed it the most the first game after 9/11 played in New York.......
Same here Yankees fan and I lost alot of respect for Clemons when he got mike and knocked him out

Great speech. Very deserving
I still remember the game after 9-11. Stationed in North Carolina I bawled when he hit that 8th inning dinger.

Avsfan9601 Go Avs Go come on, Bench is the best ever. Piazza is my favorite ever, but Bench is the best at the position bar none.
Campanella was
Arguably the best player in Mets history.
By far the best speech of any HOFer ever
This man is a legend on the baseball field
What a special player. Best Mets player and person of all time.
My favorite player growing up in Queens!
One of the greatest Dodgers of all time!
Hes better known I think as a Met
@@matt13r1 perhaps, But not to Dodger fans. ;)
spencer corey honestly hes had tremendous seasons with both, but.... who does he wear in the hall
I was surprised he did not go in as a Dodger. I guess he had his best moments as a met.
He’s a met
The Mets were blessed to have acquired this man, let alone have him inducted in the hall as a Met.
As a Dodger fan, it still bums me out they traded Piazza away.
Mike is a cool dude 😎 Mike Schmith was one heck of a player!
Mike Piazza got the Christopher Reeve Superman hairdo going on. He definitely was our Superman for those years. If only we had Ken Griffey Jr with us in 2000 could have pulled off the big one.
God Bless you Mike Piazza.
Greatest catcher ever
No
The only true star that I have seen play in NY on my favorite teams.

Thank you!! Came here to watch this.

Mike Piazza was the best hitting catcher in Major league history, but Johnny Bench was the greatest defensive catcher!!!
Sad you can see tommy at 5:25 that’s the expression of all Dodger fans when they think about the Dodgers not paying him. Unbelievable...
I like Mike

It's just not Piazza without the mullet.
Reggie should have been in the hall of fame or have an honor for it. He made Piazza great
He was picked at the bottom of the draft and became a hall of famer
I was so pissed off when the Dodgers traded him to the Marlins!
Well deserved, but the BEST catcher to ever play MLB is Yogi Berra. Not Johnny Bench, but he was great.
Every restaurant should have one.

Piazza is more known as Met.
His post 9/11 Home Run helped heal NYC.
Piazza is a Met, not a Dodger
Why is his number not retired in LA, no mention of him in the entire stadium
