Ryne Sandberg and Andre Dawson were both professionals on and off the field. They played the game the right way and, as a kid, growing up watching the Cubs on WGN, they inspired me. I would imitate them, their batting stances, their defensive moves, the way Ryne would signal two fingers to let the defense know there were two outs. But it wasn't just how they played the game, but the way they conducted themselves on and off the field as men. I'm proud of them for that & I'll never forget it.
there is something quite moving about honorable men having mutual respect and admiration for each other. It had to have meant a lot to Dawson force amber to speak about him this way at is Hall of Fame speech induction.
My all time favorite ball player, named my son after him met him a few years ago and he was very nice and humble. Glad he now has his World Series ring as a Cub he deserves it.
The Cubs STILL don't get it! Ryne was the best-prepared player I've seen. Teaching that to others DOES makes a difference! There is a REASON why his minor league squadsdo so well! Preparation and porfessionaism. Hallmarks of my hero. Ryne Sandberg!
Maybe Sandberg should take a look at that map now. He was able to deal with everything that came at him in the field and at the plate. Maybe he's the one who with his quiet leadership by example can show the Middle East how to play the game the right way.
Thumbs up for Ryno giving The Hawk some much deserved recognition.
I am a Houston Astros fan till death but I LOVE Andre Dawson, he is my idol. Glad he made it!

It was 5 years later, but Dawson *_did_* stand up there "someday".

Nice. Same here. Grew up as my favorite player then named my son after him too. Great guy.

Best 2nd baseman ever. Ryno was my hero back in the day. I watched on WGN also. Did it get any better than sandberg, Dawson, grace.
