Been a Sox fan all my life. When I first got into baseball and would watch it with my dad, Derek Jeter was always a name I would recognize and respect. I was lucky to be able to watch his whole career and even though I hate the Yankees I couldn't help but root for individuals. And he was one of them. Him and Mariano were some of the classiest players I've ever watched and I'm happy to see them become Hall of Famers. From a Sox fan, congratulations.

It was really all those starting pitchers they bought, that got them to the playoffs. Jeter and Mariano were stellar in the postseason, but those great teams needed a whole lot more than a shortstop and closer.

In February 2021 my father was diagnosed with Cancer and in my final conversations with him, One of the questions I asked was “Dad would you like to go see Derek Jeter be inducted in the Hall of Fame In July?” His reply was “Will see!” We never made it, he passed away in March 2021 and I sit here today on my birthday wishing I attended for him. But I couldn’t do it without him and I couldn’t afford the steep incline in price. One I’ll never check of my bucket list. Great speech Derek and thank you for all the memories.

But you gave us hope and that us Bronx kids can make it anywhere. Derek Jeter is that perfect story that is on the mind of every child who plays baseball and dreams of reaching the big leagues, but it is also that story that you didn't know you wanted to imagine back then; fantasy that came true. Man, his career is amazing, it's like a fairy tale, it's perfect. Michael Kay's words in Jeter's last game at Yankee Stadium fit perfectly and I love hearing that phrase ... "where fantasy becomes reality" while I'm watching that walk-off hit, it's just amazing. I remember that I started watching him play since I was 7 years old and now I am 27 years old and he is someone who I saw him on television and he motivated me to never give up and be a leader until my college baseball teammates named me captain without my asking. I am a big fan of his career that my golden dream was to play besides him, he on SS, me on 2B, on prinstripes, oh men! that's what I imagined when I was younger!!! But God had other plans for me ando I hope one day to meet and talk with him, it would be most incredible and most amazing thing of my existence of this life. I am a huge Yankees fan. Ever since I have been a little girl all the real old time guys. I remember when Derek Jeter first came on the Yankee team I just was so overwhelmed. Listening to his speech. He is a fantastic person. His family is so beautiful. I think anyone is fortunate to be a fan of his. What a great guy.

congratulations, Derek. thank you for all the great memories. it was so much fun watching you play. when I first started watching baseball as a 5 year old in 1977 I idolized Reggie Jackson and I never thought that anyone else would ever surpass him as my favorite player. but you have. you did things on the field no one thought were possible. you never gave up. you never quit. you were never satisfied with finishing second and you never disappointed the fans. you always handled yourself with class on and off the field and have inspired millions of kids around the world. I look around the major leagues and see so many players wearing #2 for other teams and am so glad that no one else will ever wear #2 on the Yankees. the 5 rings you earned in the wild card era when you have so many rounds of playoffs to go through are amazing and just as impressive as the 10 rings that Yogi got when there were no playoffs. thank you for the Yankees 23rd, 24th, 25th, 26th & 27th championship flags - none of them would have happened without you.

Derek Jeter is that perfect story that is on the mind of every child who plays baseball and dreams of reaching the big leagues, but it is also that story that you didn't know you wanted to imagine back then; fantasy that came true.
Man, his career is amazing, it's like a fairy tale, it's perfect. Michael Kay's words in Jeter's last game at Yankee Stadium fit perfectly and I love hearing that phrase ... "where fantasy becomes reality" while I'm watching that walk-off hit, it's just amazing.
I remember that I started watching him play since I was 7 years old and now I am 27 years old and he is someone who I saw him on television and he motivated me to never give up and be a leader until my college baseball teammates named me captain without my asking. I am a big fan of his career that my golden dream was to play besides him, he on SS, me on 2B, on prinstripes, oh men! that's what I imagined when I was younger!!! But God had other plans for me ando I hope one day to meet and talk with him, it would be most incredible and most amazing thing of my existence of this life. Derek is an inspiration to do things the right way.

@@bigplaystanly No. it mantle, DiMaggio, griffey jr. were not 100% of the vote, no way Jeter was. The guy was a great player, but he was mostly average stat wise, with a few numbers above average. He was a brand name and the Yankees did a great PR job to make him the face of the yankees and thats why really why he was votes in.
Sometimes it ain’t about the numbers. It’s about what you meant to the game. Name another player of his caliber that never got ejected. He respected the game and all involved.
