  • A follow on from the previous video I posted. Again, taken on Remembrance Sunday 2016. This is the same touch, just the last part of it! Rung by the St Paul's Guild, and posted on behalf of a friend.

    Theese sound very similar to Nearby Southwark before they were retuned and re hung. I wonder if it is just coincidence. Theese bells however are Taylors of Loughborough and Southwark are Samuel Knight (Apart from the 7 and 12 which were recast by Taylors and the 10 which is Charles & George Mears) .

    I wonder if the bells are going to be refurbished/tuned/re-hanged like nearby Southwark Cathedral. Southwark now sound Amazing and you can actually hear the tenor in the ringing room!

      irene casottana they are being refurbished but not re tuned. You can hear these nearly as clearly as Southwark in the ringing room too. I agree that Southwark now sound amazing, but I don’t feel like that would be the right thing for the St. Paul’s bells. They suit the building, with the grandeur!

    Can someone tell me what is half muffled?

    • @nord1486
      @nord1486 5 лет назад +1

      They put leather muffles one side of each clapper so the bell sounds quieter on that side, used mainly for occasions like funerals or memorial services

    • @djmario2381
      @djmario2381 5 лет назад +1

      Yes, but are these leathers something like the clapper holders of the bells in the churches in Austria and South tirol?

    • @wmnoffaith1
      @wmnoffaith1 4 года назад

      How in the world does one get in there to muffle the clappers? Seems that would be difficult and dangerous to climb down in there and balance on those girders trying to do it. Is that the sexton's job?

    • @spuds4t
      @spuds4t 4 года назад

      @@wmnoffaith1 A job undertaken only when the bells are "down" presumably . The muffle is fitted on to the opposite side of the clapper ball to where the rope leaves the wheel .

      Is the cathedral your home tower? My bellringing friend said the rope draft is very long and the bells are hard to ring.

    • @AshleyMonck69
      @AshleyMonck69 7 лет назад

      Zachary Chiu it isn't, but I've had a tour of the tower and yes the draught is very long
