Mate, this is hands down one of the best videos out there showing this process. Your presentation style is spot on. Keep it up!

What is meant by marking the lower control arm bolts is to mark the position of the eccentric washers against the body mount points. As they rotate they alter the camber of the wheel. If you reassemble the eccentric washers so that the realign with the marks you minimise the amount of camber change that you introduce. Nothing is perfect and the new lower control arms maybe out a couple of millimetres and so wheel realignment should always be done after doing this job. During the swap it’s a good idea to lightly lubricate the mating surface between of the eccentric washer and body to make easier for the guy who aligns the wheel to alter things.

Thanks for the clarification Joseph - since this video I have learnt a lot and understand the reason for marking it out.
      Thanks Joseph!

I just bought a 1995 S124 with 381K. I don't know how they're supposed to handle but mine drives like a water bed. The arms look exactly like yours so I'm in for replacement too. Thanks for the tutorial!

Thanks for watching! Yes it is definitely worth doing them, otherwise your wheel can end up 90 degrees to the car and take the arch with it! Good luck with it, hope you enjoy the car!

I've gradually replaced all the bushes on my R129 and the job you have just done is next for me although I will just fit new bushes as I have replaced the ball joints already. Maybe by now you will have worked it or at least you have the benefit of having a video to show you the previous position of the asymmetric bolts but anyway they are for adjusting the wheel alignment, it works like a camshaft, those lobes press against the metal lugs and move the arm in or out as you rotate it. I thought I'd just mention that for a car of that age the jacking points are impressive in their strength.

The units themselves weren’t too bad a price so went with new as wasn’t sure how old they were. Makes sense to change just the bushes if you’ve done the joint. The car will go in for an alignment etc next week, will they adjust the asymmetric bolts while doing this anyway? Yes the jacking points seem in very good nick, will clean them up at some point and rust prevent as I did in the video.

Hello, I think I got it on eBay. They have the same on Amazon but they are around £10 or so more expensive.

It seems in pretty good nick, used axle stands as well. I don’t mind so much when I’m working under the arches as there’s a fair bit of room in case anything happens.
