thanks, Kevin, as a fellow coach, i find few coaches with a solid understanding of the kick. Lessons devolve into cliches. Your lucidity is refreshing. Cheers
This guy really knows HOW to teach in a simple, effective(and likable) manner. Been taught this numerous times over the years but this one really settled the knowledge firmly. WELL DONE!
Kevin, you’re quite the quintessential instructor; extremely eloquent. You use the perfect language/semantics to explain your point, you don’t waste words. Although you’re a fast speaker, you do it clearly and it’s not only easy to follow you, but also exciting. I’m left wanting more! Most of the in-person and virtual instructors out there, use the same clichés, and there’s a disconnect in their instruction. Pete’s was ok, the only thing is, he took me in one direction, I focused, but then he switched and said the opposite, forcing me to readjust and refocus! One example: “In order to hit a great slice serve, you’re thinking, I need to pronate. No! You don’t need to pronate, it’s more like cutting the ball” and what does he do? he pronates!!😆😂 This happens with most of the on line instructors I run into😞 Thanks for your preparation and delivery, Kevin, great instructional video!
Awesome content. Thanks. Could you do one on hitting the INSIDE of the ball to move it sideways to a righty receiver's BH on both the deuce and especially ad side?
Thank you so much! I've been trying to get my kick serve for a while and I would always bend my back and hit through the ball and the ball would be gone!
great advice! serve variety is very hard to teach. your illustration shows the simple fundamental variations to develop each respective shot. it's a long learned and felt thing but you nail it bro! thanks
Peter's continental grip appears to be a little more toward the backhand than Kevin's. That makes his servce backswing a little different also( more behind his head).
Thank you guys! your videos are wonderful and of great use to me. I could see good improvement in my games. Can you make a video showing techniques to do the second serve effectively? Appreciate your help!
Hi Pete, question for you, I serve with an eastern grip, I do have a pretty good serve with pace, with three serves right now.(flat, kick, slice) now the reason I do this is because I do have a little trouble with the continental grip, the ball seems more out of control for me. I have a babolat PoP and it records my racket speed on serve as being 70 to 80 mph. In your opinion what should I do?
I have used the same 12 to 1 o clock toss on both serves, but I change the grip to a more backhand grip for the slice and that seems to work. Any other have tried this?
So I get a Lot of spin on my Topspin serve, but my ball floats so high and slow that it doesn't cause much of a Problem for my Opponent, or I am even mishitting the ball because my Racket just has no forward motion. Any Tipps for someone with the Opposite problem than your third tipp?
SirAndrew00 i had the same problem and I have fixed it Putting my body very inside the court (If your parable is well you can keep the control of your body to hit against the return without Feeling it so quick (with a good parable), because you have get yourself the time to go back to the rally)
great video! but i still miss more videos , keep doing more please! :) could you also do a 10k subscriber special where u play a match? it would be so nice!
Pronation in a slice serve isn't the only thing that goes into it though... I'm able to use both of these serves in my game, and I like to use one or the other depending on what I want to try to accomplish during the point. I also have a flat serve that's over 100 mph, but that's just me. There's also another thing that you have to thing about, and that's always swinging out. as if you're just hitting the ball away from your body. The biggest mistake that everyone makes is that they try to pull down on their swing, and try to force the ball into the court. The guy with the slice serve also needs to have a higher point of contact, but that's just my personal taste for it. My kick is something else though. Honestly it's like a change up serve for me, but it's incredibly easy to read, this actually kind of helps me get an idea to invent a different form for my kick, so thank you for helping me out on that front. Really, the slice serve and the kick serve should have the same grip, and pronation, and you should be swinging the same for both, going out to the side, it's the ball toss that really decides the spin that you're going to be using. Kicks are good for ad side, and slices are good for deuce side, but the thing that you have to pay attention to is how your opponent is trying to read the serve that you're trying to hit. really, slice serve bounces towards the forehand, and kicks bounce towards the backhand if you can follow that. Flats are... flat... no spin, just power from your form. I guess that what I'm trying to say is that I have a unique understanding of spin, and how to accomplish different heights of balls to throw off the opponent when they're hitting. They call me the master of spin at my club... I don't know why...
Good videos but Pete's slice serve video- He repeats the myth that some ATP players use the same toss for slice and top spin. This is a myth. It's almost impossible to do something like that and get the results you want. Even for the pros. You can look at tons of slow mo video of all the players and there is a very obvious distinction between the toss for slice/flat and top spin/kick. It's always over the head ( righty) or even the left shoulder for top spin and it's always over the right shoulder for slice or flat. I have yet to find a single pro player, including Sampras, who uses the same toss.
This is absolutely one of the best explanatory videos that I have ever watched and I have watched a lot.
This is one of the best explanations of the kick serve i've seen. You cover all the bases clearly.
Kevin, the grip portion at the 1 min mark has made such a difference in the accuracy of my slice serve, I can't thank you enough!!
thanks, Kevin, as a fellow coach, i find few coaches with a solid understanding of the kick. Lessons devolve into cliches. Your lucidity is refreshing. Cheers
finally found a kick serve lesson that is good! thank you and keep up the good work.
Excellent job from a long time lefty server with lots of slice and kick. You nailed it.
Excellent video Kevin, would love a copy of the free kick serve videos.
This guy really knows HOW to teach in a simple, effective(and likable) manner. Been taught this numerous times over the years but this one really settled the knowledge firmly. WELL DONE!
I used the 3 tips for my serves last night. It WORKED. Yes. is one of the best You Tube lessons ever. Thank you!!
"Think about cutting the ball". I like that. It really simplifies the intention.
very nice tip sir, thanks for it, do you have any video on how to develop a fast paced first serve that always lands in the service box.

awesome talent to pack so much important explanations in a short vid, thumbs up
I have been trying to understand this toss for months, but you made it make sense. Thank you!

Very proffessional and great tips with the kick serve Kevin. Well done. Cheers ayendra.
Thanks Ayendra!
Many thanks for the lefty instructions. Very helpful!
Thank you so much! I've been trying to get my kick serve for a while and I would always bend my back and hit through the ball and the ball would be gone!
+krustomer Glad that this could help because that's one of the big mistakes that a lot of players make.

Slice serve is different. kick serve is different? Isn't it?
Best of the best 🤝
thanks
the second part of the video is too confusing, love the Kick serve part though
THANK YOU :-)
great fucking tip buddy.
just so you know - that's not pronation, its called ulnar deviation. Pronation is like waving goodbye. JS
Got some nice alliteration in the title I see
Since Kevin got married he posts less videos now :(
The women, our tragedy !

You need to normalise your audio, man.
TMI and a bit confusing....
That's just a normal kick serve. No monster or whatever ... there is so much missing ...?
that's how we train these servers: ruclips.net/video/zDisKtCBb2g/видео.html
Wow! 5 mins of talking about the super-duper-great-heavy topspin serve and yet you never showed us that you actually can make one yourself! Boooo!
, спасибо за ролик очень грамотно умница всё
