The story of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier is a relatively brief one in the grand scheme of canine history, but it can be confused by the several different names hung on the breed at various times. The Bull-and-Terrier, the Patched Fighting Terrier, the Staffordshire Pit-dog, and the Brindle Bull are a few of the Stafford’s historical aliases.
Staffordshire Bull Terriers are among the AKC terriers, such as the Bull Terrier and American Staffordshire Terrier, classified as “bull types.” All have a similar backstory. A few centuries ago, in the days when betting on the outcome of dog-oriented blood sports was all the rage in England, gamblers bred ferocious dogs to excel in these ghastly affairs. The granddaddy of these breeds was the Bulldog, created for the horrifying spectacle of bull-baiting.
    Life expectancy: 12 - 14 years
Colors: Black, White, Brindle, Fawn, Black & White, Blue, Brindle & White, Red & White, Fawn & White, Red, Blue & White
Temperament: Affectionate, Bold, Intelligent, Reliable, Fearless, Loyal, Courageous
Weight: Female: 24-34 lbs (11-15 kg), Male: 28-37 lbs (13-17 kg)
Height: Female: 13-15 inches (33-38 cm), Male: 14-16 inches (36-41 cm)
This breed's temperament is described as tough, courageous, tenacious (read: stubborn), and curious. A people-loving personality makes him a good caretaker of his family, but he's less likely to be protective of property.

She is snoring right behind me on the bed, rearranges the bedclothes to suit her sensibilities, and now we changed food, the farty problem is gone. I love her to pieces. I currently have a 2 year old black Staff who is the love of my life!!! Staffies need LOTS of attention and don't do well being left for long periods of time by themselves. We are retired and have been with our boy almost every day since we got him at 8 weeks. He has been socialised since day 1 with other dogs and he loves "every man an his dog" - literally! Occasionally we need to take him to a kennel if we can't take him with us on holidays but he settles in well and the kennel sends us videos of him having fun! He is definitely part of our family and has the run of our house - he especially loves his daily run on the off leash beach on the island we live on in Queensland, Australia! Above all else I would recommend the English Staff for people who have the time to dedicate to them and they will give back 100% of that love!

No doubt, this breed is a very beautiful dog.
Brings bundles of joys to the family. They are great with people and even children.
Obviously, one needs to be highly responsible also to likely, socialise them from early on properly. Yet supervision is needed.
My staff Jazz passed away around in 2016. I still miss her sooo very much.
I agree with the gentleman in the video.
These dogs are incredibly loving, goofy, affectionate and loyal.
They can be very playful yet stubborn but in a funny way that brings joy.
They can be very jealous though.
And as the man also said, probably not wise to have them off the leash in a public place or park.
As they may increase the chances of going hyper bananas.. and can not tend to be that friendly with other dogs if not socialised properly.
Ideally best not and never to risk the harm to the dog, or of course injuries with other peoples dogs.
They can get very over excited and short legged staffs in particular.
They are a lot lot stronger then they appear to look in size.
So being on the leash is advisable personally from my experience at all times. Especially, if you take this breed out for a walk in a public park for example.
When I used to come home from work
Jazz would go nuts and greet me like an excited child.
She loved cuddles and her walks.
She was so incredibly loyal and loving.
To add bonus they would make cute grunting sounds when excited.

One thing you gotta watch with Staffordshire bull terriers is that they are very capable of killing another dog even if it is much larger than they are. They might not even start fights with other dogs but if another dog starts a fight with them they are completely capable of ending the other dogs life. I've seen 1 almost kill a 100 pound German shepherd who attacked him first and the Staffordshire bull terrier only weighed 40 pounds. That's less than half the weight of the German shepherd. The German shepherd survived but it was severely injured.

A landlady had a large Staffie called Peggy. White, with a large black spot on her back! Peggy and were inseparable, she loved lying across my legs as I watched TV, and her dainty little paws rarely touched the floor when in the house! She was that strong when out walking that I had to tie a thick blue nylon tow- rope to her lead! Yes, a tow -rope!
One day a man in the park hit her with a shovel, but she didn't even bark, or try to attack him in defence. A real test of her true nature. I was in tears, but Peggy turned out fine. I still miss her years later 🐕❤️🐕❤️🐕❤️

@@biblybims9868 that's entirely untrue. I'm a vet tech, dog trainer, and I work at a shelter, what you said is just patently false. Most dogs end up in shelters die to poor ownership or inability to commit to a dog. We see most incoming pets shortly after Christmas when people realize that Christmas puppy want a great idea. No, it is absolutely untrue that your entirely made up statistic of shelter dogs are there because of temperament problems. A shelter dog is no different than a purebred dog, it will just need a little more help readjusting to having a new family and a new home. 8-9 times out of 10, it's the PEOPLE who are the problem, not the dog. Please educate yourself. What you said is exactly backwards. You're the problem if you think 80-90% of shelter dogs are there due to their behavior or temperament, maybe you just don't get dogs. That is simply not the case.

In the UK because of pit bull laws almost all Staffies are actually pit bull cross breeds.
The law did not cover cross breeds and so the pit bulls were bred with Staffies to get around the law.
The actual Staffie is pretty rare to see on the streets of the UK these days.
