Mad props Matt being so accessible for others to work with because we can get awesome tracks like this and it shows you care. We need more genuine people like you. This is one reason I’ll be looking to get the white 6 string when available!
Great demo and awesome you got Matt to solo on the demo track! Just a note, I think you might have accidentally put "Bridge Pickup" on one of the clips of you playing through the neck pickup in the different voicings (around 16:40)...
The fact that Hunter can reach out to his personal guitar hero for a collab just makes me love Matt even more. Finally got to see Trivium live for the first time a few months back and it was SO worth the wait!!
I appreciate Matt making sure they came lefty in all variations, as a lefty it’s hard to find signature models of artists I like that I can actually play
My halfie radar is usually pretty strong (half Asian), but I absolutely did not clock you being another halfie. Good stuff. Also just joined the single cut family with a Gibson LP studio!
So glad to finally see your thought's on this one! I got a 6-string bone white one at release and it is the best playing guitar I've ever owned. It makes me not want to play any of my others. LOVE IT.
I've said it before, I'll say it again: Trivium is one of my favourite bands of all-time, Matt is a super-cool, talented, down-to-earth guy, but that price tag is ridiculous compared to the Epiphone Prophecy series, which are amazing. There are a few upsides, like the fact you can get a seven-string Origin, but for a Fishman-loaded guitar, the Prophecy series just seems a better deal. I think this is largely influenced by the fact that I had the O.G. Epiphone Matt Heafy LP and it was like $650. Still a very cool series of guitars and nothing but love for Matt and the band, but after all the time waiting for these, I was slightly disappointed by the price tag. Also, In Waves is by far my favourite Trivium album, followed by Shogun and Ascendancy. I also have a soft spot for The Crusade. The new albums have also been amazing. It's hard to choose which ones are "best" as they're all great. Nostalgia rules, though!
Seems like the extra $$$ is basically for the case. I've got a Prophecy, and I love it, but I'm intrigued by the 22 frets (I don't solo) and the different neck shape. Meh, it's probably splitting hairs (although that black/gold is f-ing sexy). Damn, I want to go play!
@@CraigCrider That'd be an expensive case! Really though, you're right to a degree. If you take off $150 for the case, you're paying $300 for the name on the headstock. A lot of Epiphone signatures have a higher price tag, which is sad. You used to be able to get a signature for the same price as a standard run, it just depended on whether you liked the guitar or not. Neck shape and frets, etc. can be a factor. I'm not a big soloist but I'll take 24 frets over 22 if it's an option just to have them. 🤘🏼
I get where you're coming from, I was waiting for these to drop and I ended up grabbing an LTD EC1000 instead because I got impatient. I don't regret it at all because I love the thin U neck profile and the extra jumbo stainless frets and fishmans, the comfort carves, and all the rest of the stuff Hunter mentioned in the video. Plus I got it new from sweetwater for less than these run. But saying that, I don't think this is a terrible deal compared to the prophecy considering you get a hardshell case with them and considering the the artist fee.
Yeah the price of everything went up so much. Might have also been a training thing? Epiphone uses their own factory, and they haven’t had experience with installing Evertune yet
@@agufish It was all rumor, but I always heard they never intended to install them from the Epi factory, that it was going to be an Evertune installed option. Still possible they may show up on evertunes site as an aftermarket installed deal like they've done with others (like you can buy a Jim Root strat among others with an ET from their shop right now). And even if you they don't end up adding it there, you can go to their "custom installation program" and they will order one of these badboys for you, install the ET, and then ship it to you. Or you can get one on your own and then send it to them for install. Not quite the same as being able to snag one already done up from Sweetwater, but at least theres a pretty straight forward and reliable option to get one.
trivium, and especially Matt has inspired-me to move on from acoustic guitar to electric and take learning metal seriously. I wish that the accessibility of this type of gear will one day extend to accessible interfaces for people who may have to interact with their setup through other means such as assistive technology, but Rome was not built in a day. Thank you Hunter for putting out this video and for personally responding to me on Patreon. You are one classy dude.
Speed taper D shape neck, with 43mm nut width. These fit my specs as I like Jackson/Ibanez type guitars. So this might be the Les Paul for me. Nice review Hunter!
Yeah the tradeoff as someone who likes Jacksons too is the fret size. Would have been perfect with extra jumbos. I went with an ec1000 because I got impatient waiting for these and after trying one out (while its awesome) Im happier with my choice because I could deal with the 42mm nut width with extra jumbo stainless frets more happily than the 43mm with the "med jumbo" on these.
I picked a non-MH EPI custom at my local GC a couple of months ago and was shocked that it had such a thin D shape neck. I have played Ibanez and Jackson for decades so I am a huge fan of a thin D neck profile. I could definitely play one of these. Except I hate gold hardware. Lol......
8:01 Frida was pretty sure it wasn't in the scale Joking aside, that has to be one of the tastiest demo tracks you've made, and that Matt contributed so much is beyond fucking sick. Great stuff, mate
Achieving a duel solo with the man himself is a hell of an achievement. Unlocked with honor my friend. Well done. Matt is absolutely the best in the world. Cheers
Haven’t finished the video yet but I literally lol’d when you said “Well, uh, it’s not Corey but it’ll do I guess.” Especially since Corey is one my top favorite guitarists and I’m a Jackson fanboi especially of the pointy variety (like I said in your other video). 😂
To add now that I’ve finished watching the video. I NEED a 7-string Explorer release. I dig the LP’s and I too fell in love with them cause of the Gunshot video and dreamt of getting a LP. I obviously couldn’t get a proper Gibson in high school so I was going to “settle” on something similar and get an EC-1000. Ended up not getting either and stayed on my Jackson path to where we’re at now. Now, I’ve no desire to have a LP. I played his original signature in GC one time and did really enjoy it, but it just wasn’t for me. I like my V’s and that’s who I am. But an Explorer, I could really entertain that idea.
This guitar is sick! I just have a feeling that if the rumored James Hetfield Explorer comes to light, it is going to edge out this Heafy LP. The Heafy def has amazing specs even for people who aren't fans. So glad to see those Fishmans in there!
I dunno, man. If they come up with a signature Epiphone model, that could be the case, but I can still actually see Matt's model being the most sold out of them. Matt has a HUGE presence on the internet, both between metal fans and non-metal fans. Metallica, even though it's arguably the biggest metal band in the world, I feel that it doesn't influence new players as much nowadays (although, there has been the recent Stranger Things thing, so this could change things a bit). Sure, most people's first riffs on guitar are probably Metallica riffs, but, right now, in modern days, I can see more people being proned to pick up a guitar because of Matt, especially because of his streams, than because of Metallica/James Hetfield, which is a really crazy thing to say and think. Never in a million years I would've imagined Trivium to be more influential than Metallica, the main band that influenced them, but that's what I think is the deal right now.
@@AlefSousa017 Very good points! Guess time will tell! It's not a contest or anything anyways -- just very inspiring to see Gibson putting models out there that have HEAFY (pun intended lol) interest and don't qualify as dad guitars (not yet anyways 😂). I really could see either of these guitars' specs attracting a slightly younger crowd, even if they aren't fans of Heafy or Papa Het. I would be curious if the '83 Explorer would have replicas of the original stock pickups that James used for a while, or whether he'd push them to include the EMG's he's used for most of hisa career. If they're doing recreation of his Explorer as he purchased it and launched his career, they should replicate the stock pickups -- but most people would likely whine that it doesn't have EMG's. I mean, he did just fine with those stock pickups for a while. Some people are extremely against using EMG's for a variety of reasons. Might make sense to offer both pickup configs, but Gibson ain't gonna ever do that. I also wonder if they'll come with his new signature strings and some of his picks as part of the case candy, even though they aren't from a Gibson/Epiphone brand. Would be a nice touch. Lol, I'm talking like it's a done deal from that teaser photo. We can't be 100% yet, but there was talk that he might do something with Gibson -- with that three knob config, I'm trying to hope!
F*ck it, it sounds cool has been my entire approach to playing guitar for the last 16 years. Favorite Trivium album is Ascendancy. I'm a sucker for 2000s metalcore.
I always thought Posilock stands for Positive Lock, as in you can be positive your strap isn't going to fall off. My 83 Custom had them stock, you're not supposed to twist them though, they should be tight in the correct position, pointing front to back
The MKH Epiphone is an absolute BEAST after new strings and just very little adjustment (one fret was a bit too high) it plays sooooo good. Also weird thing the cable hole was loose?
I’ve always wanted a black LO Custom with EMGs and blacked out hardware because of Kirk Hammett. The cunning stunts Show made me crave that guitar so much.
This video is SPOT on, in my humble opinion. Agufish, did you tweak the neck and or action? As it feels AMAZING out of the case. Love the 'D" style neck. Very comfortable. Dude, how do you afford all your gear? I’ve always wondered how musicians afford so many different pieces of equipment and cars and rent and all that shit.
Would anyone please be able to tell me the weight of this guitar? I am interested in getting one but not if its too heavy (like my Gibson les paul) Thank you!
So i finally got the guitar. And i compared the mkh origins and the older model. I love the weight of the origins and the feel of the neck. However, i prefer the EMG pickups over the fishman (even though its MKH’s signature pickups) and i prefer the axcess heel over whatever that “modern” heel.
All moderns have a single coil voicing with hf tilt in addition to voicings 1 and 2. The modified voicing 1 and 2 differences and output levels make the signatures "special", or differentiate from regular moderns.
You're awesome man! I just came from the shop looking at these. How sweet are the Fishman pickups!!! I'm not as jealous as I would be coz I want the white...and maybe a 7...who knows. ....in Waves is my fave Trivium album too! So cool! #sweetwater#agufish#justjoined
Am I crazy for being confused about people still calling Trivium metalcore? Maybe I'm misunderstanding metal terms, but I thought Trivium was like, not at all metalcore
I am a seriously…loyal to a fault Gibson LP player. However, I pulled the trigger on the ebony version of this guitar and I have zero regrets. It is the sports car version of the LP Custom. The ebony fretboard was one of the nicest ebony boards I’ve seen on any guitar…Gibson, ESP, etc. The specs are right there, the pups give you almost too many tonal variations. I went from pleasantly surprised to blown away after spending about 2 hours playing this guitar. The only negatives which are nitpicks but there nonetheless was the crazy plastic around the pups (had to remove entire thing to remove plastic). Lastly, the stock strings are an immediate toss as they are garbage. Outside of that, the guitar is 10/10 all day. I compared it side by side with my tried and true LP Classic from 2001. The Heafy feels like a LP should despite its light-ish weight and thin neck profile which is somewhere between Gibson 60’s slim taper and ibby wizard. I would buy another current Epiphone based on the strength of this guitar alone. In fact, I may buy the bone white one.
I've shy'd away from Epiphone LPCs for 15 years now. The only one recently that made me consider buying one was Bjorn Gelotte's signature. But that's just because I've been an In Flames fan for pretty much all of my adult life... but I've just always had several gripes with Epiphones. Whether it's cosmetic issues like LOATHING their old headstock design to fit & finish issues like their electronics work and fret & fretboard work. Matt's guitar may be the first one that gets me to buy an epiphone lpc. I love the hardware upgrades, I think the newer epiphone headstock design is a vast improvement and looks closer to a Gibson headstock. Love the neck profile, it's like a 60's neck on steroids. Love the neck joint design. When it comes to this $800-$1200 price range, I've always ignored epiphone over stuff like full thickness EC-1000s... but I may snag one of these here real soon. I'm a sucker when it comes to white les paul customs with gold hardware.
Hi all, planning to get 6 strings, please confirm how does it stays on drop C or D tunings? Is the intonation fine ? This sounds so amazing and just can’t wait to get mine but worried due to ABR-1, wish they had put Nashville on this.

Would anyone please be able to tell me the weight of this guitar? I am interested in getting one but not if its too heavy (like my Gibson les paul) Thank you!
The switch in the up position but it's supposed to be the bridge pickup?
bone nut and extra jumbo stainless steel frets and it will be an awsome metal guitar les Paul
damn, video with matt heafy himself.
so dope, I want a white one so bad. haha
So i finally got the guitar. And i compared the mkh origins and the older model. I love the weight of the origins and the feel of the neck. However, i prefer the EMG pickups over the fishman (even though its MKH’s signature pickups) and i prefer the axcess heel over whatever that “modern” heel.
Yeah, That's a headache for me If the new one comes with EMG I'd instantly buy
@@rittis013 yeah definitely for me as well. I just feel like fishman is overhyped because of online people but emg is better to me in my opinion.
All moderns have a single coil voicing with hf tilt in addition to voicings 1 and 2. The modified voicing 1 and 2 differences and output levels make the signatures "special", or differentiate from regular moderns.
Does the origins 7 have neck dive?
What is the width or depth of the body?
Great vids like always
U rock bro ur a damn great player
Sad it doesn't have the access heel
15:29, that hurts my ears, sorry.
Sound like trivium
Can you tell me what the headstock string dampener you're using is. I need something small and effective like that. Great video. Thank you.
Have you figured out what this is? I’ve been wondering too
@@DespisedIcon1982 No I haven't. I was hoping for a simple, easy response but got nothing and still searching.
Apologies to anyone who says the mix sucks. I just built my new studio and I’m not used to it 🙈
Still sounded great 😄👍🏻
@@Sticky_Tea Thank you!
FUCKING RAD!
I got mine from sweet water too :)
That's an amazing looking ESP in the background.
🤘🤘🤘🤘
Fucking sick
Noob question: do I still need the 9v battery for the passive voicing?
@@JavierPwns Thanks for answering :)
Dude, a I wanna your HB avaiable for lefty, do your magic with the guyzzz.....
Killer🤘🏻😈
This is the first video of yours that I've caught, and let me just say... SUBSCRIBED!!! 🤘
Around 18:00 for the neck pickup demo (callisto) the text says bridge pickup.
Am I crazy for being confused about people still calling Trivium metalcore? Maybe I'm misunderstanding metal terms, but I thought Trivium was like, not at all metalcore
Suffocating sight. That one gave me tennis elbow. Those bouncy triplets
“Half Asian like me . . . “ your half Asian? Really?
Yep, half Chinese
Matt Heafy is a beast. Sin & The Sentence. Real talk. Are you half Chinese and that’s why you lived in China? I assume Heafy is half Japanese? Am I close…?
jeez listening to your song makes me feel like im playing doom. hoping you can make it into a full song one day!
