  • The sign for Joe Shekarchi's law office is still there, but next to it sits a fenced off hole in the ground.
The Rhode Island House speaker's private practice burned, along with other offices in the building on College Hill Road in Warwick.
That was three years ago this week.
Back then, Shekarchi said he had no reason to believe it was arson.
In the time since, his thought has become crystalized.
“I clearly believe it was arson,” Shekarchi told NBC 10 News in a recent interview about the fire.
Investigators at the Rhode Island Fire Marshal’s Office quickly labeled the cause of the fire at Shekarchi's law office “undetermined” due to the extent of the damage.
The fire marshal's initial report did not, however, rule out arson.
But there hasn't been any headway in the investigation, at least not publicly.
