NBC 10 I-Team: Recovery center owner to plead guilty to federal fraud charge

The owner of an addiction recovery business facing a federal fraud charge has apparently reached a plea deal after the sudden closure left patients scrambling in 14 different locations.
Federal prosecutors accused Michael Brier of ripping off the Medicare system through fraudulent billing for addiction treatment appointments that didn't happen and ones that were cut way short.
A plea deal filed in court calls for him to serve 6 to 10 years in prison and forfeit millions of dollars.
Brier is accused of cheating patients and the federal government through his Recovery Connection Centers of America, which had 1,600 patients in Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
