I forget where I first heard it, but the best quote I've heard regarding arguments versus debates is as follows: "An argument is an attempt to force your opinion onto others, at the expense of denying their viewpoints as valid. A debate is a reasoned discussion between like minds of differing opinion." To engage in an argument is to have already lost the intellectual discourse. By denying outside information, no matter how factual it may be, you are lessening your own intellectual capabilities. But to have a true debate with somebody is to truly think about the world around you. It is to potentially enrich yourself by realizing that maybe you don't, in fact, have all the information, and it leaves you open to new ideas.

It's very heartbreaking. As someone with a wyt father and blk mother, I had to have the ugliness of racism explained to me when I was 5 years old... and I still didn't get it. My mother stopped him and told him something that made him calm down. I don't know what it was or maybe I just don't remember. I do remember my mother crying later and both of them sitting me and my little brother down to explain as best they could. My baby brother didn't get it at all and was more interested in playing so they let him toddle off. Lol Even though I was a little older than him, I still didn't quite get it. All children that experience racism are taught it at a young age (if family are aware) I was taught what racism was i primary school, where I got bullied based on skin colour. @Gabroe; Dubal this might answer your question though not satisfy yours and many others frustrations, as always not everyone will be satisfied with the way things are done. So, I say in our own day to day way..we share these videos, try to get them to organizations, news outlets..MLK Jr.'s day took forever to be recognized etc. We should ask ourselves how do we get acts and things like this out into the public, do not wait for that BIG prize (it may never come) though think of the neighborhood schools and organizations, oh, like the "boy scouts". I am saying this to you though taking it in myself. I was born and raised in MA and moved to cambridge in the 60's and the neighboring towns of Arlington and Belmont are steeped in the history of the early revolution. As I say, not sure if the parades are still held ~ guess I should check it out myself. I wonder if his story is part of that history. ??
Because only state leaders who start or fight wars get the Nobel Peace Prize nowadays. The Nobel Prize overall has pretty much lost its meaning for me.
I took a Psychology of Prejudice class in college and the thing that has always stuck with me was the fact that the only thing shown to lessen a person's prejudices against a certain group is to have a positive interaction with someone from that group. The effect is even greater if they succeed on a task together. Daryl may not be a psychologist but he adhered to that principle.
This is going to sound like a joke, but I'm being serious- I really believe that if hostile space aliens came to invade Earth and humans defeated them by working together, that would cure a lot of racists.
A lot of people that spew "only love can defeat hate" never actually believe it. They only have hate in their hearts. This man is the embodiment of love defeating hate. We're all just people, anybody can be prejudice. It is the job of good men and women to help these people.
Reminds me of the drag queens in schools debate. Children don't have hate, just misunderstanding. Even if their parents were against it, if the drag queens at school were very nice, it'll change the children's opinion forever.

@@NCMETAL yeah, but to play the devil's advocate, he never really wanted to end slavery. He only did it as a military strategy to win the Civil War. As a northern Republican, he supported the free soil movement, which was that he didn't want slavery to expand to the West (it was still being settled), BUT he didn't mind keeping slavery in the South. This was for economic reasons; if slavery spread to the west, then there would be whites competing for jobs with blacks. He was NOT an abolitionist (someone who wanted to end the institution of slavery as a whole). During the Civil War, he decided that for the Union to win, they needed to escalate the purpose of the war from re-uniting the union to now being about the abolishing of slavery. With the passing of the emancipation proclamation, it meant that the Confederacy could no longer get aid from Britain like it had planned because the British had just emancipated their own slaves and it would look bad for them to help maintain slavery over here. And, it meant that many of the freed slaves in the south would join the Union army and reduce the population of the South. The Emancipation Proclamation ONLY freed slaves in the confederacy. The border states still kept slavery because Lincoln wanted to keep them appeased so they didn't break off too. The 13th amendment that abolished slavery everywhere was only made after the war once victory was secured. TLDR; It was all a military strategy.

Sadly this is not possible at least in a democracy where people do nothing but vote. The elected president does not have much accountability for his actions other than just being voted out after 4 years. If both parties come together, talk out their differences and in general resolve their open conflict, then they would have to actually work and do some good for the people. They are not interested in that so whether by using genuine hatred or fake, both parties continue to oppose everything the other does or says. This way, all Americans will come to expect literally nothing from any president from any party which is in the best interests of both parties.
@@amazingcalvin I believe the parties don't come together because their supporting crowds won't come together. People on one side view the others as criminals. If the people would unite then both parties would lose all their support in favor of a hybrid set of ideologies (because let's face it, both sides have some good ideas) but that doesn't happen because once the people learn about the Democrats vs Republics war, they immediately side with one in order to eliminate the other. Some critical thinking would be useful at that point.

I just remember how awful it made me feel. No child should have the ignorance and fear of adults slammed down onto them- not ever. Those tiny little shoulders aren't built to carry that kind of weight. It changed me and put a small blight on what had been the clean slate of my childhood. I'll always remember how bad I felt.
Forgive me for rambling on. Lol 🙏
@@coryanntopanga please don't apologize, that was beautifully said and from the bottom of my heart I'm sorry you had to go through that. Nothing is more upsetting, aside from maybe institutional racism than children having to deal with racism at such a young age. All children that experience racism are taught it at a young age (if family are aware) I was taught what racism was i primary school, where I got bullied based on skin colour. Unfortunately, for a lot of us, its a thing that happens as a child, which then completely alters how you think from then on.

@@caseycandice Abr- Abraham Lincoln never owned slaves... He’s literally the president who ended slavery.

Might not be hate? Round here drugs and alcohol are making people do things that I would never imagine. Kinda wish it was hate. At least that would mean they're thinking. At least feeling right.
This is how Democrats and Republicans in the US need to talk. Not by name-calling each other as they do.

In my personal experience you often ostracize yourself when you go down extremist paths since you lose some relatability to other normal people. But if someone talks to you like normal and gets common ground it’s much easier for you to stick to that since from what I know, all extremist spaces are much like abusive relationships, they’re not good, but better than nothing.
“Nothing can be loved or hated unless it is first understood.”
Leonardo da Vinci.
I'm pretty sure the root of hate is exactly because people *don't* understand something. Like... you know... the guy just explained?
DasAntiNaziBroetchen but it's not only limited to that. You could not understand everything that happens to your body when you're being burned alive, but you'd probably still hate it
Who wants to "understand" hate, especially when it is irrational??
@@Oliver-gd7uf thats the point. You have the right to hate something after understanding it.

This man REALLY needs to run for president!!! Unfortunately, he'd never be a "good" politician - he tells the truth far too often, and has FAR too much integrity for that job.
Exactly
on the contrary, I believe that he would be a fantastic candidate for some political seat. We need to have our country run by the people and for the people, and I feel he represents some of the best that America has to offer. Straight diplomacy and respect coming from that man to any he encounters.
@@gisellepaz9069 If he could get past the party nomination then sure. But that's where the problem would be. Neither the DFL or GOP would even let him get his foot in the door to get to the primaries in the first place.
"Oh you don't believe in our platform regarding victimhood? Sorry buddy you're just not for us. We like you though."
Naw he's to humble. He wouldn't want the presidency, which makes him the most qualified for the presidency.

I’m sorry but I can’t take the kkk seriously when they use the titles wizard and dragon.
There are also titles like Grand Turk, Cyclops, Fury, and Titan.
The Klan started years ago in the 1800s. So they would use "Scary" words from Old Books to make there Titles. It was a form of Intemedation.

This man had turned more than 200 people away from the klan. He even talk with Nazis. He never makes them leave, they leave on their own. This man is a legend. We all should take notes on how he handles things. We spend to much time fighting each other, which never solves anything. Let go of your ego's and respect each other.
