Brian's massively underrated as a podcast host. When Evan gets emotional and goes off the rails near the end of this, Brian immediately recognises that he's got to give him a few minutes to pull himself together and goes off on a motivational rant to bring him back into the room. Awesome interview. Hopefully Evan fulfils his potential and wins WSM, if not this year, then eventually.
It is one of the fastest growing podcasts. His demeanor and voice are perfect for it. I’m sure if he continues it and reaches out beyond strongman it can be as big as any other.
I can tell he's getting better at interviewing and there's a noticable difference in how he keeps the podcast moving in a certain direction compared to when he started podcasting
The most important thing, is Brian is listening. He’ll pull out information from 10, 15, 20 minutes ago and bring it back, tying it in to a different thing Evan was talking about.
Met him at the arnolds uk. Most of the guys understandably had enough and wanted to go home. He was still talking smack and having fun with the fans. A great rep for the sport.
Yeh me too, I've only ever seen his brash, cockey side before, but the way he opened up there was amazing, it took real guts to say what he said about pretty much every part of his life. As Brian said at the end, I hope he can look at what he's been through, and realise he's not quit, he's continued fighting, and is making a real success of himself. Most people would have quit a long time ago. Evan is definitely a real inspirational person, and has just won a new fan.
I remember the first time seeing Evan at a Giants Live, jumping around and shouting. I remember thinking "wow, what does this dude think he is". Never have I been so wrong, and totally misjudged what is just a stage performance. In all his interviews he's so down to earth, and seems to be such an awesome guy. Also, when his competitors are lifting, it's always Evan's voice you'll hear in the background cheering them on, and throwing out encouragement. Awesome.
Evan being touched by Brian talking to him when he was an equipment tester got to me. Every insecure person is so appreciative of someone acknowledging them and investing time into them. Evan and I share a history of insecurities, never feeling enough, and suicidal tendencies. You learn how to get past those tendencies and define new goals despite your self image and thank God life gives you opportunities to rise above self image.
Brian is such a supportive person, I love how he poured into Evan from his experience. I truly hope Brian’s leg infection doesn’t impact his goal to win #5! He stated challenges raised him to new heights. I would love to see him win #5 and set so many new records.
Brian’s message to Evan: don’t let past experiences define but refine you! Being a Champion takes a strong mindset. Great to see such powerful encouragement!
This really was one of the best podcast episodes ever. And that's saying a lot cause there's been so many great ones. That advise you gave towards the end, the story about his first conversation with you at worlds in 2019, to all of his personal things he overcame. I've been a fan of Evan these past few years and even though I heard him talk about some of the stuff before it still hit. It's beautiful to see the beginning years of one man's career with a man whose left a legacy and is coming close to the end of his. Amazing
Ah man it's so great to see how brian takes time "out of the podcast" to talk to evan on a very personal level with advice and all that, and then you can literally see how the tense and frustrated and angry face of evan just lights up ever so slightly. I feel like papa shaw has really been that for evan in some regards as to advice for life and strongman sports. loved it
I remember when Bif Lolz's wife had gotten inbetwen some angry giants back stage at giants live...she said that Evan was the first person to stand up and jump inbetween the guys and stop them from fighting. She said that he saved her from getting very hurt. Dude is definitely a stand up guy.
I suffered from getting hit repeatedly behind the head when I was around 13 years old and had a horrible time remembering things. No one took the time to explain anything to me about what injury I may have. I was told you must have always been like that because I got punched behind at school, an no one wanted to go against the school I attended because it was in the middle of three projects.
That's quite an inspirational story Evan. Tough exterior, but really good hearted guy inside. I'm looking forward to seeing you at WSM next week! Thanks for sharing your story with us. That took strength being vulnerable like that.
Such an inspiration Evan. When you get on the top of the podium, that memory will fade, whereas all the struggles you have endured will remain. It’s the journey that matters
I doubt Evan will ever read this, but I wanted to say it. As someone who has been almost 500lbs As someone who's attempted what you did 3 times (not saying the word cause ill get banned) I lived in my car when I had a drug problem This podcast is what I needed to hear in my life. I'm an older dude. 37, I won't be able to compete in this arena. But I WANT to become stronger for myself and to prove to my kids that it's possible. This interview has lit a fire in me dude. I'm going to push my weak points (i suck at pressing so bad) and not make excuses. Thank you Brian, thank you T Rex. So much
It's great seeing these guys come on Brian's podcast and opening up about their struggles. It shows a different kind of strength that should also be admired.
Man, one of the best broadcast episodes ever! Have e complete different view to Evan now, and to many other guests, Nick, for example... And you are the best Host ever, Brian! I can tell you, after the Jujimufu Episode I was going directly after watching it, to my home Gym to lift some weights (never been here for nearly 2 years and everything was ready for Sale...). Greets from Switzerland 🇨🇭
Love that potcast. What a strong guy evan is. Going through all that crap and all the time finding power and meaning to keep on going. Truly inspirational. Evan has everything to make a big thing in WSM and he defenetly deserves it. Also loved brains inspirational speech for Evan at the end. To focus on all that he has in his hands. So good luck for all of you ❤.
I knew this podcast was going to get real. Great Podcast and I wish you all the best in your career Evan. You're in a good place surrounded with good people and I look forward to watching an amazing career as a fan. Go get it!
I applaud Evan for making himself vulnerable on a platform like this. It's not every day that a man of his stature and celebrity is willing to share everything with us. I see great things on the horizon for him. T Rex was my favorite current competitor before this interview, and now I have a whole new level of respect for him. Brian has to be one of the most amazing people I have ever seen. His compassion and positive attitude is contagious. I myself have recently started training again after years of injuries and doctors telling me I was done. Watching Brian and listening to his advice really brought me out of a despondent place. Thank you both from the bottom of my heart for having this conversation and sharing it with the world. God Bless you both.
What I find most inspiring is how Evan has taken lessons from each chapter he went through and still applies them today. Like everything has been a piece of a puzzle to make him more powerful. Really shows how everything can be a lesson, even the setbacks.
I was a big fan of Evan before this podcast but now I’m a super fan haha. The way he has come back from such adversity and still having a great mindset. Looking forward to him giving a good representation of his talent at Worlds
The life story of Evan is insane and what he has to do to get to the point he's at now is inspirational. I think this will be the year that Evan actually gets to perform and show everyone what he's capable of. Good luck to the T-Rex🦖💪
As a 23 year old track and field athlete I can relate to evan a lot. Thanks for sharing your lowest points with us. I know how difficult it is to share your story with mental health as I’ve been there myself. Still struggling today, but now I have an amazing support system around me and my self esteem has skyrocketed when I proved to myself that I can be an amazing athlete despite being short on raw talent. I just got news a few weeks back that my foot injury will probably never fully heal but I’m pushing through. You are an inspiration Evan!
I became a fan of Strongman for the last 4 years, it’s nice to see the upcoming guys like Evan and Trey that have the love and drive for success for themselves and for the sport in general. At 52, I’m a bit old and with quite a few injuries from years past, I would rather be a spectator 😉. This podcast has given an even bigger respect and admiration for Evan. Living in North Carolina, I started being a fan of Evan a couple of years back, especially since he is an East Coast guy. Brian, Thank You for such a wonderful podcast now, and moreover THANK YOU FOR GIVING US ALL THE WONDERFUL YEARS OF COMPETITION AND SHOWS. You are truly one of the greatest strongmen Ever! Looking forward to seeing the Shaw Classic this year. Much love to you all and prayers for all of you guys continuing success and safety. 🤙🤙
It’s great to see a man’s man/apex predator like Brian being empathetic, communicating openly and non judgementally. Blokes more than ever now need other blokes to talk to openly rather than holding it all the time Also wise comment too ‘you are enough’. Think he needs to believe that..Shitty parents that neglect you and little attention= spend rest life trying to prove yourself good enough, achieve the impossible just to feel good enough or ‘ok’
Excellent podcast getting to the heart of the man Evan is. I will be cheering you on Evan. Brian, as ever you are a good decent honorable man. Your support of other athletes is great.
Appreciate you guys for this podcast. Brian being there for other athletes and helping them speaks volumes. His impact on others is underrated. Evans a great strongman and a good guy. Wishing you all well 👍
I don’t care what anyone says but in my opinion Brian is by far and away the greatest of all time in this sport. You could possibly argue for others on their titles and achievements (although Brian is up there with the best of the best), but for what Brian has done and is still doing for the sport and it’s athletes is unparalleled and will most likely never be equalled. His impact and legacy in the sport of strongman I believe will go down in history. I cannot think of a better way to send off the most influential strongman of our time, than him taking home his 5th title.
You could see the genuine care brian had for this guy . He was like a uncle that is giving his nephew life advice an boosting his confidence an giving him love he has been missing . He was uncle brian here. At this point it wouldnt surprise me if evan looks at brian as a father figure
i feel Evan's pain the highs and the lows dedication to become better/best but the wanting to just end it all. The will of the warrior is the only thing keeping me alive.
This was a great one. I always watched it after work, when I was very tired, so it took me about 5 go's to get it done, but I did. And I took something from it. Excuses are futile most of the time. Evan, you're great. Brian, you're the GOAT! Thanks for sharing, guys! Big fan from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil 🇧🇷
I have to say . I normally will listen to any pod cast for a little bit but this one is special and I literally have been watching all day at work and just finished after being at the gym training. I've always thought Brian was just a down to earth guy and the brother hood you shared with Evan just proves that. I only recently started watching Evan and have thought this kid is gonna take over worlds strongest man one day. Evens back story is the most inspiring journeys and I'm glad he was able to tell it . Evan I totally agree with Brian. You're next chapter is going to be great. I've seen your RUclips trying sessions and it's amazing to know now what you've been through and to watch you killing it in the gym truly is inspiring and amazing. Keep killing it brother and Brian I have been a long time fan and now will be a long time fan of your pod cast. Stay strong..
Brian is such a great guy, when even was showing his emotions towards the end, and the way Brian, kept calm and talked to evan to let him try and compose himself is amazing
Evan has an incredibly inspirational story and tons of potential which I’ve no doubt he will fulfil in the future when his time comes. Really hope he makes the final this year at WSM as he deserves that recognition as he is without doubt a top 10 in the world athlete!
I'll say my opinion has changed about Evan recently. He's really started showing his humbleness! Keep up the hard work Evan. You definitely will win worlds one day!!
Wow - talk about 2 amazing Men. Holy shit what a podcast. So much respect for these 2. Nobody has got ANY excuses after listening to this. If you got a dream - YOU GO OUT THERE AND MAKE IT HAPPEN! PERIOD!!! I will succeed!!! Marine Mike 🇺🇸 💪
Wow, that interview was very long, but I listened to the whole thing. Brian, you are simply amazing. I’m not sure how you’re able to interview without a script and keep things going so smoothly. The world really is a better place with you. I know this is your last WSM, but what you’re doing with pass on all the knowledge and helping the new age talent learn the ropes and be better is beyond words. Evan, thanks for sharing your backstory. A lot of respect and I hope you know that even from a complete stranger, you are loved.
Don't let your past define you but let if fuel you. I have my ex fiancee's wedding ring and engagement ring combo sitting in a box and when I know I need the motivation to do anything extrermely difficult I take it out and look at it and that self hate can drive me for days.
Evan, thank you for sharing and thank you for choosing life! You are important. I know it’s tough for many men to share vulnerability like this, but it helps with the stigma. Just for future podcasts, it would be helpful to give disclaimers and also sourcing suicide prevention hotlines even if it’s added after the fact in editing. ❤
I've had respect and loved watching Evan before this, his energy and love for life is infectious; but, this not only explains where it came from; but, also gives soo much more respect for this man! God bless you bro, I'm energized to keep going on my journey!
I think Episodes like this one can really help people become better. I saw Evan in a few different videos and for some reason didn't really like him, not sure why but wasn't a fan. After watching this and hearing him talk and realizing that it was me who was possibly judging and not allowing someone a chance to showcase themselves before i got to know them, i am a changing person and am now looking forward to seeing more videos with Evan and hope he continues to do well. Big Respect man.
The best video I ever saw on RUclips in like 15 years. You are more than enough Evan. Always remember that and love yourself. Also thanks for the fabulous hosting Brian. You two are a huge inspiration to so many people including me. Would love to see both of you on the podium or win the title. 👍👍
Man what a great story, loved Evan but never knew any of this and it was so interesting, so much stuff I could relate to on a personal level. And Brian wow he is so good at this, you really see his maturity and the skills he’s learnt through his experience in business and strongman, he is so good at managing and making Evan feel comfortable throughout the podcast and making the conversation flow.
I wrestled in hs and college and I think it's the hardest sport in the world. That mental toughness transfers well I'd imagine into Strongman...go Evan, and good luck at WSM!
This was probably the best podcast yet, so much respect for Evan and from Brian for pushing him to talk but not pressing him. Best of luck to you both for WSM
That interview was great. Easily my favourite so far. Evan is a Real character, wish him all the best in strongman, he is a hell of an athlete and even better person. ❤
Evan, I hope you win a ton of WSMs! However, you may not ever win. It is the journey and you are worth it as a person, no matter the outcome. If it happens or not, you've inspired me. Thank you!
WOW I NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD EVER RESONATE WITH EVAN LIKE THIS A WHOLE NEW RESPECT AND UNDERSTANNDING FOR HIM, KEEP THAT CHIN UP CHAMP, AND SMASH WSM, GOOD LUCK WITH THE LEG IN HOSPITAL B THANKS GUYS
this is so true coz this sport is unlike any other sport you actually wanna see your opponent get better get stronger and win its weird..BRIAN is such a great guy its i wish him all the best to make ICON out of his name ..i wish i was rich i would invest milions in his ideas...
This podcast was awesome, im a huge Brian Shaw fan and i really hope he wins his 5th WSM but if he cant I'll be routing for Even to win, his story is so motivating and the depth to him is so inspiring that ill always be a fan of his. All his set backs at WSM have only mad him work harder and want it more and that in its self is so inspiring. Go win this kid, YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!
Brian's massively underrated as a podcast host. Not gonna lie…. Got a little teary at the end of that one. Papa Bear guiding the cub. Worlds is going to be fire!
Phenomenal podcast for sure. Wishin’ these gentlemen nothin’ but the best @ WSM.
Big fan of Evan i hope he can get to the final this year at WSM
Met him at the arnolds uk. Most of the guys understandably had enough and wanted to go home. He was still talking smack and having fun with the fans. A great rep for the sport.
He did it man !
I see Evan in a different light now...Going to be a fan ...Thank you Brian for an amazing talk man ..I enjoy these talks very much
Yeh me too, I've only ever seen his brash, cockey side before, but the way he opened up there was amazing, it took real guts to say what he said about pretty much every part of his life. The fact that Evan went from testing equipment to sitting with Brian talking about the road to come is amazing.
Thanks Evan for being so open and real.
I never knew about Evan’s Bicep. Battle wound and learning lesson.
It's beautiful to see the beginning years of one man's career with a man whose left a legacy and is coming close to the end of his. Amazing
100%! Awsome analysed!
I'm glad you are still with us Evan.I've faced the void myself, lifting helped me back into the light.
Ah man it's so great to see how brian takes time "out of the podcast" to talk to evan on a very personal level with advice and all that, and then you can literally see how the tense and frustrated and angry face of evan just lights up ever so slightly. These damn allergies got my eyes watering. Great stuff guys. Brian Shaw for President!
gonna a be a lifting execetive order

I watched the whole podcast. And I do have to say I look at Evan Singleton very different now . Great podcast. Love you guys ❤️ ✌️

As someone who's attempted what you did 3 times (not saying the word cause ill get banned)
I lived in my car when I had a drug problem
This podcast is what I needed to hear in my life.
So much
Hek yeah hope ur doin alright
It's great seeing these guys come on Brian's podcast and opening up about their struggles. It shows a different kind of strength that should also be admired.
I’ve respected Evan since I first heard of him, and I never knew much about him. After this podcast my respect for him is immense.

This is why strongman is a good. Freaking love Brian.

Brian that was great advise you gave Evan. You can tell he really took that in!
This podcast is so wholesome ! Best of luck to you guys for this year WSM !
I knew this podcast was going to get real. Great Podcast and I wish you all the best in your career Evan. You're in a good place surrounded with good people and I look forward to watching an amazing career as a fan. Go get it!

Cant wait for Evan to show the world what he has really got at WSM, its going to be an amazing highly competitive comp, I can't wait.
Can't express how much Evan's story touched me, I'm super excited for this wsm, all out!!!!
The life story of Evan is insane and what he has to do to get to the point he's at now is inspirational. I think this will be the year that Evan actually gets to perform and show everyone what he's capable of. Good luck to the T-Rex🦖💪

I watch that video of Brian Evan talked about before every single workout, great motivation
Evan is my new favorite to win WSM. Well after this years, LOL....Go Brian.
It’s great to see a man’s man/apex predator like Brian being empathetic, communicating openly and non judgementally. Blokes more than ever now need other blokes to talk to openly rather than holding it all the time

The Shawstrength Podcast is such an amazing podcast that really dives deep into the pain that shaped the people behind the athletes.
Favorite episode so far, Evan is a great personality.
Brian is such a great listener and motivator
Excellent podcast getting to the heart of the man Evan is. I will be cheering you on Evan. Brian, as ever you are a good decent honorable man. Your support of other athletes is great.
Appreciate you guys for this podcast. Brian being there for other athletes and helping them speaks volumes. His impact on others is underrated. Evans a great strongman and a good guy. Wishing you all well 👍
Hope to see these two in the finals. Stacked line up this year.
Very touching podcast. Hope Evan achieves his goals and finds that deeper peace in life. Seeing this side of him makes you really root for him.
I don’t care what anyone says but in my opinion Brian is by far and away the greatest of all time in this sport. These are 2 of the most polite kindest guys iv ever met in person. Don't be afraid to go talk to them.
Evan surprised me with this one. What a class act. He has become one of my other favorite athletes! Thanks for this! You both are GREAT!
You could see the genuine care brian had for this guy . He was like a uncle that is giving his nephew life advice an boosting his confidence an giving him love he has been missing . He was uncle brian here. At this point it wouldnt surprise me if evan looks at brian as a father figure
Brian is such a great man...and Evan is too. I hope one day Evan wins worlds strongest man
i feel Evan's pain the highs and the lows dedication to become better/best but the wanting to just end it all.
Great podcast! Brian is a natural and it was awesome to get to know Evan better. The sport of strongman is growing and I'm all for it!
Most of the problems in society today stem from peoples inability to deal with conflict and confrontations in a mature manner.
Great interview Brian! Evan, thank you for showing us your personal life and the really tough stuff you faced in your earlier years.
Dude that was real and raw. Best of luck to all the guys, but if anyone ever says WSM isn't interesting or good, they need to stay away anyway!
Yep, I first thought Evan was an ass, not from his size but his intensity in comp. But I found out by meeting him he is a sweetheart and a good man.
I’ve always thought you were an a$$. Nothing changed.
Great to see men open up. Glad your with us, a lot of us know that type of pain.
You guys inspire me.
Thank you.
Great podcast Evans story is deep.
I have to say . I normally will listen to any pod cast for a little bit but this one is special and I literally have been watching all day at work and just finished after being at the gym training. I've always thought Brian was just a down to earth guy and the brother hood you shared with Evan just proves that.
Didn't really know how to feel about Evan until I met him several times at WSM this year. Far and above my favorite now and love this man.
Totally agree to All of that!❤
This is phenomenal. Mentor Brian showing up at the end is epic
That was thee best podcast ever. TRex is just a massive success story already and I can’t wait for him to go nuts and earn that dream of his.
Interesting podcast with a beautiful ending both speaking from the heart. Brilliant.
Don't let your past define you but let if fuel you. I have my ex fiancee's wedding ring and engagement ring combo sitting in a box and when I know I need the motivation to do anything extrermely difficult I take it out and look at it and that self hate can drive me for days.
Let’s go!!!! About to munch out before I hit the gym and a new Brian podcast comes out!! Perfect timing!!
One of the best podcasts I have ever listened to 💪
I was on the edge of my seat the entire podcast amAzing story
Very Moving... Big respect to both of you.
Powerful story. Thanks Evan. Rooting for you both at WSM.
Your journey is extremely inspiring to me Evan. Thank you for sharing.
Amazing conversation, thanks to everyone involved with this.
This vid made me love evan
Riveting interview. Evan you are a true inspiration!!
Love listening to the journey. The crooked path always has the most character. To be open to talk about that live on air is commendable.
Evan is the man.. I see a lot of myself in him. 2023 WSM he's gonna be dangerous 👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻
Love how different Evan is when he is not in competition. Seems like such a cool humble dude
This is actually very insightful and motivating
Evan , continued success! Huge respect to you and Brian! Great podcast!
Thank you!
WOW I NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD EVER RESONATE WITH EVAN LIKE THIS A WHOLE NEW RESPECT AND UNDERSTANNDING FOR HIM, KEEP THAT CHIN UP CHAMP, AND SMASH WSM, GOOD LUCK WITH THE LEG IN HOSPITAL B
THANKS GUYS
this is so true coz this sport is unlike any other sport you actually wanna see your opponent get better get stronger and win its weird..BRIAN is such a great guy its i wish him all the best to make ICON out of his name ..i wish i was rich i would invest milions in his ideas...
This is my very 1st pod cast, and all I could think was amazing.
CTE is a reality, it can exacerbate underlying psychological issues. Please take care of yourself, Evan.
Go win this kid, YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!
great podcast Brian, and Evan is one hell of an inspiration.loved the interview hoping you both do well in this years world strongman final.
What a great episode, I have so much respect for both of you!
Hard times create strong individuals. Quite the story, good luck to him and the nickname "Walmart Brian Shaw" is forever banished!
