Brian's massively underrated as a podcast host. When Evan gets emotional and goes off the rails near the end of this, Brian immediately recognises that he's got to give him a few minutes to pull himself together and goes off on a motivational rant to bring him back into the room. Awesome interview. Hopefully Evan fulfils his potential and wins WSM, if not this year, then eventually.

Yeh me too, I've only ever seen his brash, cockey side before, but the way he opened up there was amazing, it took real guts to say what he said about pretty much every part of his life. As Brian said at the end, I hope he can look at what he's been through, and realise he's not quit, he's continued fighting, and is making a real success of himself. Most people would have quit a long time ago. Evan is definitely a real inspirational person, and has just won a new fan.

This really was one of the best podcast episodes ever. And that's saying a lot cause there's been so many great ones. That advise you gave towards the end, the story about his first conversation with you at worlds in 2019, to all of his personal things he overcame. I've been a fan of Evan these past few years and even though I heard him talk about some of the stuff before it still hit. It's beautiful to see the beginning years of one man's career with a man whose left a legacy and is coming close to the end of his. Amazing

Hey Evan if you want to be a better strong man, try being like 5% less savage, maybe wait till your bicep actually doesn't have holes in it before going hard in the gym. Don't put arm chunks on the floor, that's a sentence I never expected to type, genuinely dial back the savage slightly, you know allow your body to properly heal and I think it will pay a bigger return than a few extra training sessions.
Edit, I'm saying this as someone who actually cares for your well being and you ability to perform not as so know it all jerk. Sorry I noticed my original tone didn't convey the care as much as I intended it to.

Even gets given so much crap just because of his aggression, people forget this came from his wrestling past, 2020 WSM had a injury during the show, 2021 WSM he had severe food poisoning. Even had tough 2022 also, injured shoulder, had an epileptic shock at WSM not forgetting the shoulder injury he had going into the comp which affected his ability to lift the log properly, even at Strongman Classic, World Open had pull out of comp midway due an illness, then pulled out of Rogue, GL Team Show due to a injury, everyone has a year of struggles. I don't agree with crap he gets. His personality is what we, the UK like. It's entertaining

Someone needs to tell Evan that he's not writing "T. rex" correctly, which is funny considering how often he likes to use it - IN paleontology, and in biological classifications in general, the GENUS name is capitalized and the species name is NOT. NEVER. And if you abbreviate the GENUS name you have to use a PERIOD - not a dash. Not my rules, just how it works. SO, T-REX is wrong. It just is. T. rex is right because T. (Tyrannosaurus) is the GENUS name and rex (not capitalized, EVER) is the species name. Just like how we're humans - we're the genus Homo and the species Homo sapiens or, if you short-hand it, H. sapiens.
I'm just saying. Dude even got T. rex fingers tattooed on his hands. He went that far. Might as well spell it right ;)
Also, the reduced digit III on the hand tattooed on him is in the wrong place ;)

As far as the assumption from "normal" people that big, strong dudes are assholes.... I feel it also comes from when people see you it's usually in the gym or on tv or something and all they ever see is that aggressive attitude with your body language and the look on your face. If that's the state of emotion that someone only ever sees you in, then I can see how that is the assumption. This is why I like watching these podcasts. To see them being chill and having good conversation.

I don’t care what anyone says but in my opinion Brian is by far and away the greatest of all time in this sport. You could possibly argue for others on their titles and achievements (although Brian is up there with the best of the best), but for what Brian has done and is still doing for the sport and it’s athletes is unparalleled and will most likely never be equalled. His impact and legacy in the sport of strongman I believe will go down in history. I cannot think of a better way to send off the most influential strongman of our time, than him taking home his 5th title.

Thank god for sports and iron, a lot of us would have turned to drugs otherwise.

Evan, thank you for sharing and thank you for choosing life! You are important.
I know it’s tough for many men to share vulnerability like this, but it helps with the stigma.
Just for future podcasts, it would be helpful to give disclaimers and also sourcing suicide prevention hotlines even if it’s added after the fact in editing. ❤

I'll say my opinion has changed about Evan recently. He's really started showing his humbleness! Keep up the hard work Evan. You definitely will win worlds one day!!

I wrestled in hs and college and I think it's the hardest sport in the world. That mental toughness transfers well I'd imagine into Strongman...go Evan, and good luck at WSM!

Evan, I hope you win a ton of WSMs! However, you may not ever win. It is the journey and you are worth it as a person, no matter the outcome. If it happens or not, you've inspired me. Thank you!

Evan has an incredibly inspirational story and tons of potential which I’ve no doubt he will fulfil in the future when his time comes. Really hope he makes the final this year at WSM as he deserves that recognition as he is without doubt a top 10 in the world athlete!
