I love how Rob talks about some 6'8 guy at the highschool combine like hes the biggest dude ever, meanwhile he is "Only" 6'7 375, and the living embodiment of Hagrid.
He can totally play Hagrid in a future Harry Potter movie and they dont have to use CGI or camera tricks :)
@c a m oberst is 6'6 brian is 6'8
@c a m You got it! I too have been trying for several years to assist people to see that most of these folks lie about their height. For the most part people refuse to listen and just stick with the lie. You are correct on these heights you listed for each individual.
I am 6ft 3. 300 lbs. built like a string man. When I get next to someone who is 6ft2 and 270 and jacked it’s like woah. Part of it, we don’t know how big we are. Went to a strong man met someone my same size and I was like woah your a giant people were like your both the same
Size. It’s weird but we don’t understood big we are
@@DanClizer bro i'm 5'4" at the ripe old age of 23, I don't lie about my height cause it doesn't matter either way you can visually see that i'm short. I think there's a certain group of people that lie about their height because they're taller than the average person just enough that it's hard to call them on it.
Oberst literally stole the show in Gemstones. His crying scene and in general performance was one of the best on the show. So many experienced actors and his performance shined through. It was wild to see. The last few episodes really cemented him as a legit pro. Cant wait to see his acting career blossom.
Of course crying is his best talent 🤦♂️
Robert was the first strongman name I put to memory because of Munchies
Robert, I believe the best is yet to come for you my man. Can't wait to see it!
Happy Retirement
No no no no!! Strong man has lost its character and love!! Rob, great name, lots of love I respect the American monster!! Shoulder boulder king!! Huge respect i wish you guys would come to the UK more you have a huge following.
I would travel a thousand miles to see Rob on broadway
Obey is a awesome dude
So if you say ur completely done in pro strongman etc why do you stay od sauce and still ruin your health by eating 8k calories a day?
Brian is pretty good at this podcast thing. Best wishes to OB.
Shaw good at everything he does honestly
Everything he has put out has been great fr fr 👌🏾
@@nikkojennings51 he takes everything seriously.
@@jtaco4101 that's why the man is a legend
Brian always so calculated, he doesn't just wing it for a lack of a better word, he took time to study and always prepared himself for the worst so he'd be ready....
Every thing he does, you just know he does it to be the best version he can give and you can see that. You can see the passion and love put in, thats why you and i love his channel or show or him in general.
Brian is such a good person, and great listener, that every single person that shows up just opens up whole heartedly. Even the huge burly OB is sitting there just open as if there is no cameras or microphones. Both of you have done great things being yourselves. Keep doing you bros!
They’re also really good friends, so that helps
I'd probably end up balling my eyes out and telling him my life story
As one the greatest strongman ever Brian Shaw is also an amazing podcast host! These podcasts are amazing. I love them! Keep up the great work Brian! You a legend man!
Two icons
Oberst is a great guy very down to earth and sad to see him retire stay strong and pretty big man
he’s lowkey annoying
You did great, Obie. Not only is it insanely difficult to make it into WSM, you left your unique print. Best of luck to you!
He only went there because he got invited for being a clown. Oberst never a tually qualified for anything
What unique print? I always got the feeling he was lazy.
@@AlexJones0316 Don't think he's lazy but has a lack of mobility that you can see in his squat and deadlift. Sadly we're all built different and his body will always limit him in the deadlift and squat but amazing shoulder presser
@@AlexJones0316 I think his personality was pretty unique.
@@JesseHMR He never obsessed and worked on his weaknesses. He never outsourced his information. People like Brian have gotten a ton of information and training methods through other people. OB was just naturally gifted to get to the world level, but to win or even podium, you'll need to work as if you don't have the physical gifts.
Robert is such a genuine man... he wears his heart on his sleeve , Thank You Brian for having him on your podcast .... Robert and You and Eddie seem to get along Great... Thanks for all the memories Guys...
OB is great for the sport in terms of marketability and whatnot. He’s deserving of respect for being amongst the strongest humans on earth. But the reality is, he barely competed in comparison to his peers. His one claim to fame is the American log press record, which the only footage is some grainy cell phone footage from 2015 (on bis RUclips channel of course). He talks so much more then he backs up: Claims to have the strongest shoulders in America even when multiple Americans have been out-pressing him for years. Claims he’s going to do comps he doesn’t show for (the Strongest Nation one for example). Did zero comps for years and still got the invite to World’s year after year when better, more deserving guys were busting their asses in the Giants Live tour and/or the Arnold’s every year actually qualifying, but they aren’t friends with the right people. Talks trash on Loz, who has accomplished a metric ton more in Strongman, just bc Loz (rightfully) questioned his abilities. And then there is this attempt to glorify himself, and self-assign credit & accolades that don’t actually exist.
He had a wr in farmers carry for distance didn't he? I may be mistaken
To be fair, Loz kind of threw him under the bus on his podcast when it clearly wasn't called for.
Dang that sucks to hear OB. Would've loved to see one last give it your all wsm appearance but I'm glad you seem to be at peace with your decision. Looking forward to seeing what you do next! By the way, get back to the RUclips's!
Why does Pudzianowski not get mentioned among the greats? The only 5 time worlds strongest man..
The era when Pudzianowski dominated was during a period when the world's strongest man split into two factions essentially. The other half of the competitors were competing in another competition(ifbb I'm not sure exaftly) that had no exchange with wsm. Big Z was in the other group until he eventually made it to Wsm. Z was also the dominate champion of the other sect. So the athletes Mariuz competed against is debated as to who was the true champ. I still think Mariuz was amazing, but that is part of the reason he is left out of some of those conversations.
@@woolyrhino640 I always forget about the split. Didn’t realize Pudzian was at his peak during that time. But if I’m not mistaken I believe he has beaten Big Z before
@brandonrussell9227
Oh yeah, there is a comp where both of them compete together, and they are back and forth. It is really awesome.
You've been half in half out for the last 6 years in Strongman competitions.. Oberst talks shit about Loz but you were never on his level and accomplishments in the Strongman game. You retired a long time ago bud. Oberst gets butt hurt over Loz speaking the truth. I'm just glad you didn't do the team competition with Eddie because it would have been an embarrassment.
Great interview fellas. I got choked up a few times. You both will continue to be successful regardless of what you do. It's in your DNA. I look forward to watching you on HBO, Robert. Stoked. Congratulations on your retirement brother. It's a smart move. Always listen to the body. You don't want to end up with all the health issues like Ronnie C is dealing with. Goodluck Champ!!
OB, Bri is this legit?
OB, thank you for the wonderful memories and helping me become a fan of the sport of strong man. Between you and Brian, I really got into the sport. Congratulations on your success, and here's to you! Wishing you massive success in all your future endeavors!
Brian, Eddie, nick and rob should have a show. Not just about strongman but like a jersey shore type reality show LOL. Put them in a house together and just let the cameras roll
That only has one bathroom.
There's only so many angles of Eddie's butt that people will be able to stomach
@@Loki-33 yes! Only one shower too. Don’t think that’ll bother oberst I don’t think he showers anyway
Now that would be awesome to watch
@@Loki-33 And it doesn't have a fan
Imagine Brian shaw Robert and Eddie in the podium retire after 1 last wsm
I am obsessed with these podcasts Brian! Keep them coming!
Robert Oberst was the first strong man I followed. He definitely laid the blueprint for a lot of other people to follow. I still remember the 10,000 cal video. Then Eddie Hall’s reaction to it.
Robert is awesome and I'm sure he'll continue to be in whatever he does.
I'm disappointed at how frequently Brian just let Robert disrespect Strongman so much for being a good representative
If they did a live action God of war ragnarök, I think Oberst would make a decent Thor.
Robert you are humble and you carry yourself well. We are all rooting for you no matter what you do. God bless
Life is a long journey OB, lots of scars and boo boo's along the way. Be you, your a super person, and it is evident in these videos. You have some wonderful friends and lots of fun ahead, god bless you on your future endeavors. Good luck.
this is becoming "the bryan shaw experience " and we love it
I'm very happy for Robert and wish him the best in all his future endeavors 🏋♂️
Brian genuinely seems like the nicest person alive. Just everything is affirming and positive, nothing seems like it's lip service coming from him. Robert could have said he clogged up his toilet before the podcast and Brian would have said" wow that awesome, glad to see you're getting enough fiber, that's really great man."
Nice, unless you're a Democrat lol
Super cool. I can relate to some of Oberst's childhood, competitiveness. Good stuff Brian, Oberst 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
Love the podcast Brian watch it everyday . Wish you the best Robert you have big things for yourself and your family . I have HBO and cant wait to see you there brother . I am from TEXAS too . Have always been proud of a fellow TEXAN showing the world thing are bigger in TEXAS . love you guys .
Brian's strong man story would make a great hallmark Strongman, made for TV movie. OB's LIFE would make a proper Steven Spielberg film. I love watching both of these guys do anything. Thank you both for being such inspirational figures.
I’m surprised these guys can sit for an hour without eating something lol😅
Timestamps would be great, love the podcasts!
Selfishly I was hoping he brought up with working with demo ranch and try to persuade brian to goto the ranch. That collab would be incredible. But hope he does well in Hollywood and hope it doesn't change him.
I can imagine Robert Oberst making a career out of playing tough guy characters in movies and shows. Like Danny Trejo
DT appears in straight-to-dvd movies (those cheap budget movies) but many of them are good.
brian give space to robert to recall his hole career from the very beginnigs in occasion of his retirement and is so emotional. it is like giving space to celebrate the career of a friend
What baffles me is that there are some people out there who are still regarding Oberst as a legit elite strongman. Like, the guy did ok until 2015, that's it. From that point he only cruised on his friendship with Brian and free invites to WSM. I understand how some people might find him somewhat entertaining, but ffs get a grip on reality folks.
He had an 8th place finish at WSM just a few years ago. He's been 8th at the Arnold's Classic. He's been top 3 at America's Strongest three times. And that's not all. But he's not a 'legit elite strongman'? gtfoh. How many 'legit elite strongmen' do you think there are in the world? It's like, Brian and Tom?
I remember my first time meeting Van Hatfield in Mapleton. He helped me to realize my potential in strength and I found out who Brian and them were through him. Coming from college football it all translated well over to the sport. It was so much fun.
PS. Robert. Reggie White killed Larry Allen 1 on 1 lol RIP Reggie.
Killing the podcasts Brian! Best wishes Obie
your're a great host, would like to see you talk with people outside of sport and strongmen too
Awesome podcast guys. I'm sad to hear Oberst is retiring but I'm super stoked for him. You've always been my favorite strongman. Brian comes in a close second. I loved the show, I've loved watching y'all both compete. Oberst you felt like the most real to me, you always seemed like a great guy to drink a beer with. I'm excited for you for your acting and hope it takes off for a long and storied career man. Best of luck to you, and Brian keep the content coming, you've been a super solid and dependable force in strongman. To me, you personify strongman and I don't know what the sport will be like when you retire.
Brian has to rename the podcast to “ShawCast”
Question that ahs absolutely nothing to do with what they were talking about. As someone who is 6'4" 300lbs and hard on office chairs, what brand and model chairs are those?
I hate to see Obie retire, but I completely understand. Robert and Brian were a big part of me enjoying Strongman as much as I do(along with Eddie, Nick Best, Mark Felix, Mariusz Pudzianowski, ect), and I'm glad he's retiring under his own terms and not due to a career ending injury.
I don't think oberst pioneerd anything in the sport, his mouth doesn't match his poor performance

Have a fun & prosperous retirement 'American Monster'! It's been real....
These Interview podcasts are brilliant 😁 thankyou
Gonna suggest it here, because Robert knows him, but if he’s someone you’d consider having on look into getting Matt Carriker on. Did I spell his name right? Nope, probably not .
Robert might have been a thorny prick who though himself way more hot shit than he actually was. But is still really fucking painful how he had to retire, guy was on track for leading World's Strongest Nation (which was quite a fun comp) and have a final WSM where he'd get to do a nice farewell along Felix and Brian. Not being able to go out in his own terms cause of compound injuries gotta hurt
When OB said "Larry Allen is the best football player ever", right before I could say 'Sapp', he added "or Warren Sapp"! I hate how cool OB is
How do you even determine the GOAT of the NFL? There's so many positions that by nature can't contribute, only by one dimension. The QB, RB, WR, TE, and such have much more valuable and active roles that it's unfair to the Center, LB, DL, OL, etc. because there's multiple players of the same role at once. With basketball and baseball, it's more simplified. Basketball has 5 positions on at once, and 1 can do the roles of all 5 if he wanted to.
Big fan of all of you guys . Happy retirement Robert 🤟🏾, well deserved.
Nick Best said see ya nerd as he hits a 800 deadlift at the old folks home
Brian's pod cast are the best!! Deep, thoughtful, and funny! Awesome.
I don’t like podcasts I like Eddie Brian and Rob .
There like 3 strongman of top gear good group of guys taking the piss. 👍👍👍😂
Not talking junk but Robert was poor his whole life and did ballet, acted and played hockey growing up? Also his dad worked “a lot.” Not proof he’s lying but everything is about how hard it was for him. Bro you don’t need guidance to know you have to take the SAT to go to college. Nobody’s parents told them they have to take the SAT because if they do need to tell you that you’re too stupid to take it anyways
It's such a challenge as a competitor to in the moment, be happy with "losing" but realize, holy crap I just did x. You almost view it as a weakness to get happy over that type of stuff, like you'll get complacent and not train as hard or not push as far as you should/could. It's okay to live that moment, and change your mindset to a loss being a learning moment. Awesome interview and career.
I would like to see Obie try stand up again. The man is hilarious and comes from a unique perspective. The China story was absolutely hilarious.
My Strong And Pretty sweat shirt came in the mail a few days ago and I haven't taken it off yet!
Now we know why he hasn't been posting anything on his RUclips channel... congratulations on your new adventure my man!
Proud of you OB
Can I ask why Thor isn’t part of that strongest humans ever debate next to Z and Brian? Outside of people just not liking him? 39:39
So interesting that everyone is selling characters & entertainment with their sports,. It's not just for pro-wrestling. Strongman, MMA and other sports need "stars with personality" to excel.
I also grew up moving around alot also a big kid (330lbs 6ft at 16) but i never really got into sports like football i instead spent most of my time outside of school doing auto repair doing things anywhere from pushing cars, trucks around, and lifting engines/ transmissions around. i sometimes also would help my aunt on her farm dragging hogs around moving feed bags putting in fences. i never really had friends if anything i got bullied alot and i could obviously really stopped them given size and power but ive always been humble super kindhearted, but i was always quiet and never fit in anywhere. i can say this seeing robert and brian be who they are you 2 have been huge role models for me but i never got the opportunity to do anything close to strongman stuff and wish i could have. love what you 2 do and keep it up
I appreciate him having courage to come out as a natty athlete 😂
All of the greatest are retiring! What an era. Happy retirement.
😰😓 this honestly just kinda crushed me. I wanted to see OB make another final at WSM 😥😢
@bronchoped1 yeah. It's stacked, as always. OB was always just one of my favorites. His attitude carries him.
Hell I'd like to have seen him on the podium! Maybe he'll be back again sometime soon.
Obie is a character but not much more than that. He was never in the elite category of strongman like Shaw, Eddie, Thor, etc
@@lotty4006 Don't forget Zydrunas Savickas
Only if he earns it
you know its time to parachute tf out of a sport when the "worlds strongest gay" is your biggest rival and dunking on you.
This was great. Got to learn more about Robert. All interesting stuff. Will miss him in strongman. Good luck in the future. Miss your RUclips videos
man i alwas liked robert the man just so humble and fun to watch great dude i hope you the best ma man
Great podcast. I loved History's Strongest Man. Can't wait to see Robert in Righteous Gemstones. Something stuck out to me when you were talking about the show, and how you were hoping for more seasons, because I was too. You've probably thought about this, but have you tried pitching another show? The historical feats of strength was a good model, but I think the selling point was the personalities and how you guys got on together. Just seeing the bits of travel, and the four of you in restaurants and hotels was like a show within the show. I know things will continue to go well for you guys. Stay strong.
I remember Brian at his biggest showing a keg/bag toss to Magnus. And magnus simply laughed at the height he managed to reach. It didn't even make sense to him.
And I also remember Brian shaw eating like a shark doing box jumps.
Brian was 460 pounds at his heaviest damn
Prettier than your mam, stronger than your dad 😂
Congrats on an amazing career Oberst! I am a lot older and only compete in Bench Press, but I struggled when I quit competing. A lot of emotions and self identity to reassess, Best of luck !
Mariusz Pudzianowski is the greatest of all time as he is the only one with five WSM wins.
I love the microphones on the plate, very fitting for a strongman's podcast.
I'm very happy for OB... I was breaking his balls about missing US vs UK..... but now I understand. Congratulations to you sir
Only 16 seconds in... and whoa. C'mon man! Sad day today OB
Wish you guys would do another history channel series
Rob is a great example of talent that didnt get a full chance because it was too early
Introducing Robert 'Hollywood' Oberst
Noooooo. I was still hoping to see him one last time, but the way his channel went so silent I was fearing this news... So it was still a bit of a shock when the video started
Awesome podcast, best of luck to OB with what comes next, happy retirement man 🎉
Bill Kazmaier is still in the conversation as the strongest. Also, It would be awesome to see you 2 along with Hall and Best go to one of the most haunted places and do a paranormal investigation. Yeah it's not strength stuff but it would be hilarious I think.
Kaz was a beast but he certainly wouldn't hold up in wsm 2016-2018. The weights would be impossible for any strongman of his time to consider
@@jonathonberg5465 yeah but if he was competing in those years, he would have access to all the modern equipment and training. He would have been unstoppable
@@jonmichaelburgess2654 You can’t compare and you definitely can’t say that. It’s the same old argument would Ali be as good in this era, and the awnser is no athletes get better not worse
@@astradala1845 I will absolutely say that. And I will again .. Bill Kazmaier would still be a beast today.

Thanks for this one Brian! It's a little bitter sweet to hear Oberst is done with the sport, but it's exciting to hear about his new stage in life and what he's doing. American Monster Forever!
Not to me. Oberst is past his best and wouldnt place anywhere near the podium. No need to risk injuries and work hard just to place out of the money.
LOL he said a list actors those are like the b team man lol no harm in that but js
I wonder who’s the guy Obi got in a fist fight with.
Did OB just call Brian Tom Brady 😅
Keep it up OB
