    Fantastic work Marcus, great explanation! After checking on Steve (backswing) , do we imagine other mates to the leading side? Turn to each (right, in line) for a draw or straight shot? One thing that my swing did not have access to was the ankles/knees, I was too focused on the hips. Now I feel how ankles transfer to the knees and then hips. Focusing on hips only (the tip I got) made me hook and hook because the upper body would take over. I guess with that intention in mind, I would start the kinetic sequence too high and over rotate per body.

    This is absolute gold !! My own experience .. I stopped getting golf advice or lessons, can t play with voices in my head , rather self learned the swing by trial and error. Very thankfull for your video s explaining "experience" with body mechanics.
    the swing .. Worst advice .. take away the club on a straighter line to the targey .. felt like swinging an axe rather than a golf club .. body swaying , left foot slipping back, and an incurable slice.

    Marcus are you posting up to a straight rear leg in backswing then in the transition are posting up to a lead side front leg in the downswing. Should I sequence my downswing by pressuring into a straightening lead leg as my 1st move or a flexed lead leg.
    Marcus you have great content & understanding of how to correctly swing a golf club with 'swung' & not 'hit' being the critical difference.

    Excellent Marcus. I’ve introduced so many movement compensations to my swing over the years that I don’t really know how or what to correct. I have considering taking lessons from the local pro to “straighten me out” and repair my swing. Instead, after watching a few of your videos I’ve built a balance board and ordered a set of wobble pads and a set of rotating discs. I’m looking forward to my first round after using these movement aids for a few days. Thanks for all your insight. Looking forward to booking a session with you once we are allowed to travel to and around the UK again.

    Amazing!! Years ago my coach was Frank Callan (Steve Davis’s coach) I went every Tuesday to Blackpool (Snooker, in case you were wondering) when we played he would always have a cigar in his mouth, with ash threatening the table with every shot(never happened), he made a hundred break(often) with' said Cigar’ and his chin 6 inches above the cue! He talked through every shot he made as if he was walking down the road with ease! The simplicity of his execution was beyond me at the time! I asked one day if, rather than have a lesson we could just talk, we sat and had a coffee, of course I was intrigued about Steve Davis! Frank told me that he had asked Steve whether it would be okay to share the “business” (as they called it) and apparently Steve said, yeah sure, most wont get it anyway! Turns out that the “Business" was just eye to ball, rhythm and trust! I had a great talent but didn’t trust myself enough! heyho, my golf is getting better though! Marcus you are nailing it!

    Thanks Marcus, great video. At 14:45 when you talk and demonstrate some force across the shaft, you are doing it easily with one hand half way down the shaft and you say the body reacts to that. You're "pushing" the golf club. Could you tell us a bit more about HOW to do that when we have taken our 2 handed grip on the handle? Are you talking about more trail hand action "pushing" across the shaft in the downswing? I'm a bit confused because it seems like you're saying push on the shaft with your train hand to apply force across the shaft but then at 16:27 you say the forces are coming from the ground up. I'm just trying to fully understand as I think what you are telling us now is really great and I don't want to go out and try to apply it incorrectly. Thanks so much.

    • @GRFGolf
      @GRFGolf  3 года назад +1

      It's a drill to sense where and when the release of the clubhead is and how the body reacts to this release. It's not about trying to create those forces with the arms. Use the body action to generate these forces 👍

    I kind of think if you have a stiff lower body but not stiff hips then you can shorten your backswing substantially. The twisty pads would work just fine with a tighter swing.

  • @333pg333
    @333pg333 3 года назад

    What do you suggest for someone that moves their head/body too much laterally towards the target by pushing off trail foot too much too early? You have to flip hands just to make contact. Yet, you say let the body move naturally. Head, feet, ankles, knees, legs, hips etc. For this person they have to try and rotate while leaving room for arms to come through by moving lead leg around and backwards rather than pivot around lead leg with trail side early extending out and around...thereby taking the room of the club. How to swing naturally without sliding and early extending trail side??

    • @GRFGolf
      @GRFGolf  3 года назад

      It's all individual specific so what one person needs another may do the opposite. If you do the right exercises and have the right midset you will allow your body to self optimise and your movement will improve in respect to your intention. You're thinking golf swing atm, stand on an ice rink, you will stabilise quickly. How did you do it? No technical thought, it was a reaction to the environment and task constraints. I'd suggest shifting your attention onto task constraint exercises and observe how your body responds with a movement solution. There's plenty of exercises in my back library of lesson videos for you to explore and take a more self discovery approach instead of thinking about fixing movements born out of a golf conditioned coaching approach. Challenge the body in the right way and we'll learn a lot about ourselves and how our body wants to do it instead of doubting what we're doing, second guessing, and trying to manipulate our movement 👍

    • @333pg333
      @333pg333 3 года назад

      @@GRFGolf Thanks for concise reply. I do get your philosophy and like how you teach. It is a totally different mindset to the norm. However as one who has had plenty of coaching and does a bit of studying of the golf swing, it is really difficult not to notice certain idiosyncrasies in the swing and try to self correct. What do you mean by task constraint? I have looked at many of your videos and would gladly take a lesson if you ever came to Australia haha. H/cap is 5 and should be lower on the basis of all the shots still left on the course after most rounds. I think key is letting it all go and just let body do what it knows how to. Thereby removing all the brain-noise!! Cheers.

    For me the “overswing” is wasted arm movement- or too much arm and not enough shoulder turn. In my youth, I played against Azinger. He was one with an excessively long backswing. The golf coach at his junior college got him to shorten his backswing - and he became damn good as a result. But he didn’t shorten or restrict his shoulder turn, just the excessive arm swing. But you are right: free up your body to find “your swing”.

Before I did, but now, I have no old age aches and pains after playing. Instead I feel exercise refreshed after each round, the same way I do after recreational swimming.

    If you started a cult I would be member 001 😁
    The only way I can explain it is All other coaches I have seen on you tube teach us how to pump water from a well. You teach us how turn on the tap 🤯🤯🤯🤯
    I started watching your stuff the other week and since then I've not shut up About it to any golfer who will listen and more importantly I've not had 1 single swing thought in the last week and a half of golfing, an I've played 9 rounds ⛳🏌️‍♀️
    Im about 3% there with the feet but changing my focus to 90% my target and ball flight thoughts and reverse engineering the hole rather than 90% looking down on the ball thinking all the crap in the worlds checklist of swings has freed up my brain and body and taken away all swing thoughts and I'm hitting the ball much better 😊😊
    I can't wait till my feet start to take over and all the power, consistency, control of ball flight, distance and confidence will come as part of the package 😁😁😁😁😁
    Keep up the good work fella, i guarantee that withing the next year after seeing how you coach alot of other coaches will be changing the way they look at the way they teach.

    33 seasons of keeping my feet planted on the ground and focusing on the ball (aka: keeping my head still) thru impact have all led to one thing....a short, chicken wing golf swing that results in very little yardage. I’m starting to see why my 7 iron only goes 135 yards on a good day! 😩

    Over the years ive rejected these 5 worst tips by eventually trusting my athletic/sporting ability over obviously stupid tips.But you have to be aware of your athletic strengths/weaknesses Although im old and 240lbs i have very mobile joints so i have to work on stability and igniting loading the muscles around the joints, but in an athletic way,probably for injury prevention as much as performance.But in the past due to my flexibility it was "connection" (stuffing things under armpits! etc)that ruined me! I now know it is an illusion caused by good sequencing.

    Thanks so much Marcus for freeing up all of our swings. I'm 71, have played for 58 years and taught for 40 years including tour pros. I personally have been locked up with tension for 30 years due to modern instruction trying to hit positions and the biggest killer of them all, the X Factor (lower body resistance). Everyone needs to look at videos of Jones, Snead, Nelson, Hogan and Trevino. All played from the ground up, just as you emphasize. Thanks, cheers from Florida.

    MONEY!!! These top 5 messed up my distance with longer irons to driver. the restriction of the body cause aches and soreness to my back and lateral hip area. The timing of the transition was an issue with my short wing too. I just feel more restricted keeping the body turning on an axis.

    Man ... together with WOTP (Golf Sidekick) ... love your approach. With your point on the moving the feet ... I've got something really strange that I naturally do but almost everyone seems to have comments about. Just before my start of the backswing I do a little back-step with my back foot. Sort of kicking of the backswing ... in my last golf vlog you see this consistently ruclips.net/video/DI0cOUNMpfM/видео.html ... any tips? Or just let it be as long as I do not get an undesired sway with the head? Context ... I started at 50y and am now close to 2 years playing. Stay metal, Eric. 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻

    My biggest issue is for whatever reason I cannot get a sense of using the ground with my feet. I feel rather "disconnected" from the ground when I make a golf swing resulting in too much upper body and almost NO lower body.

      @@GRFGolf I have watched a TON of the videos and they all make sense. I know its something in my back swing where I just can't feel the pressure in my feet allowing me to push off with my right foot...when I get to the top of my back swing I feel as if I have "lost connection" with the ground and there is nothing to push off of...not sure if that makes any sense. Wish I could get out to you for a few lessons...but I am in the Great Northwest (Washington state) across the pond from you. Thanks for the videos!

    So, are you not against a bit of head movement in both directions? Obviously there's a huge amount of golf content online and a lot of this content can in some ways seem a bit contradictory to one another. There's a lot of videos that condemn head movement, especially backward head movement. Cheers
