I live in South Africa, churches of this nature have a massive following. The way that religion is used to manipulate people who are desperate is blasphemous.
I've been to Uganda twice and Rwanda once with Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) . I have seen these preachers driving Mercedes cars with a line of trucks following them everywhere for "security" and their church members giving them their money rather than send their kids to school. The "church" just pushes them to give everything they have and that basically you can buy miracles. It is so sad.

Totally. I think she's brave. She covers a lot of good rarely covered topics. Or at least covers them in a rare way.
I worked in psychiatry some 8 years. One learns a lot studying in that specific field. These self appointed healers are in it for the money mostly and they know how to prey on the weak and intellectually challenged. Preying on the weak and on those who are in need, is about the lowest possible crime and should be punishable with severe sentences.
I can promise you those that feed on the weak taking them people's money and messing with their heads like that it should be a law against it but they might get by with it but they won't get away cuz they have a higher power to answer to when they leave this physical world
Sander, so far you seem to be correct. I have not found an exception yet. These believers or followers are some of the most vulnerable people who will pay con artists for something they can't do out of sheer desperation.

Steve made this 57 year old Black Man cry.....cause I know he will not be healed. I traveled with these Faith Healers all my life as an organist....stuff doesn't work....it just is not true.

Actually, the gift of healing is one the gifts of the Spirit Paul talks about in I Corinthians 12 and 14.
Remember he's instructing the church, not the (12) Apostles.
Problem is people are claiming to have this gift that have it.
I have laid hands, a few times on terminally ill people. One with stage 4 cancer, and one with encephalitis,comayoz and not expected to live.
Both were healed.
Has everyone I've prayer for been healed? Unfortunately not.
People were healed by simply walking past Peter's shadow, yet Paul and Timothy who had contact with Peter were not healed.
People need to stop following and giving offerings to people who have no track record of having the gift of healing

As an occupational therapist with 15 years experience...the walking miracles are always hard for me. I went to a church that went through a phase like this with a young pastor training yo be an evangelist..even studying under Bennie hinn at one point. The walking miracle..rising from the wheelchair usually are not people like Steve and even 4 men holding Steve up trying to force him to walk does not equate being able to walk...not everyone that uses a wheelchair is unable to walk but a common person wouldn't know that and even if they get up and walk some steps doesn't mean they can walk functionally ... safely or a long distance or that they should walk without an assisted device.
Lisa has a gift of compassion, consideration, and respect. Thank you for what you do

Im not religious, but this reminds me of wolves in sheeps clothing. When someone warns you, you never think you could be Looking at the wolf.
And there's no "healing" that actually happens. If there's a cure or doctors save them - "God did it." If they die - it was "God's will." There's a scape goat for every outcome. It's disgusting!

I have been healed by praying for myself, when others have laid hands on me, and when no one has laid hands on me. God heals when our faith and prayer are combined. Never let these pastors hold you back. Let God be your healer where ever that might be.

Two things I'm always skeptical of: an overweight doctor, and anyone that promises miracles, and charges money for them.

We don't need to attend a church or give money to have a relationship with him. The prey on the broken. Shame on them.
The release of chemicals in the body such as oxytocin, serotine and dopamine can create the same high as drugs. Religious cult leaders know this.

I feel incredibly insulted when faith healers come up to me and asked to pray for me so that I get heal. I have learned to embrace my disability, and it’s part of my identity.
If I had to choose any human on earth to emulate, my first choice would be my momma and my close second would be Lisa Ling. She's a light in this dark world. I love her deep empathy for all humans and ability to connect with each and every one of us. ❤

Galatians 5:22-23- But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, GENTLENESS, and SELF-CONTROL.
This isn't about god. This is about how horrible our medical care system is. When someone who is sick and can't afford to get the care they need, it's horrible. Turning to God is normally peoples last option all cause our medical system sucks. I 100% believe in miracles. Don't get me wrong about that. I'm just saying our medical care system needs to be improved.
I also believe in Gods miracles but you bring up a valid point. I’m Canadian and it’s hard for me to believe that a country as great as America has a medical system that is failing so many. It’s a very scary way to live. I’m so grateful to live in Canada 🇨🇦
Many of these people are already benefiting from 'our' healthcare system- some to no avail. Steve, the subject of this piece, was clearly seeing doctors.
No it is incorrect, because if God healed all sicknesses we would not need a medical system at all. But it's all mumbo-jumbo. I have been there too.

There is no other truth, no other alternative. Things cannot be altered as God has ordered them in the earth just because people won't believe it.
Watching this after the Fighting Satan video is very interesting. Two churches promising healing but only one costs $600 a pop.
When Steve accepted what he got out of his healing and passed that energy on to Lisa unselfishly, it was the most beautiful act in the name of religion that I have ever seen.
I believe in miracles but I believe miracles have to align with God’s will. Sometimes healing comes in different forms, including when God takes a person. On another note, Lisa clearly has a gift of mercy and compassion. She is so empathetic & it’s clear that she is operating in her gift.

The time would best spent for these men to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ. Yes, that He died for our sins according to the Scriptures and that He was buried and rose again according to the Scriptures. To give men and women hope in this life and beyond. Jesus Christ came to give eternal life. God can heal miraculously but he often uses natural means to bring about heading. The doctors and other health persons. There's a purpose for God's miracles and that is His glory, that people bring honour and glory to Him.
Truth is defined as the extent to which a claim conforms to reality. Therefore, l am obligated to ask, whatever happened to those powerful sermons about faith, now that we need them most. Could it be that the good christian pastors today have more faith in scientific, helping hands than they do in praying lips? It's like they have discovered a new truth (science) and have done away with the old biblical promises. I wonder why?
During the pandemic, l'd love to hear sermons preached convincingly with conviction, if just for once, pertaining to the following biblical verses:
John 15:7
7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

As an Atheist who was raised in a catholic cult, I find these types of documentaries fascinating....but also I sit there and shake my head at what I believe is delusional thinking..... That's just me though....

If it was cheap than I wouldn't have a problem but seeing those women pay 600 each. What are they paying all that money for. Paying 20 or even 50 to go to one of these sermons I can understand but 600.
I was raised Catholic but I didn't understand everything I was more of a theist believer in a higher power.

I grew up in the church that preached this nonsense. Crippled people would walk again, sicknesses would be healed, the blind would see again, and the barren would miraculously give birth. I went to church with people who believed so strongly in faith healing. They even believed it in terms of their financial situations. I watched my mother get sucked into this faith, and bore witness to her losing everything; her car, her home, her family, and her dignity. I remember being so angry with her for risking the livelihood of her family to be dedicated to this faith. I was homeless in high school because of her faith choices. We drifted from home to home, and even ended up in a shelter at the Salvation Army. We slept on people's floors, on their couches, and dined at their tables. It was a horrible existence for my mother and myself as a teenager. She believed so strongly in this faith, that it was impossible for me to question it at the time. I tried to believe in the "power" of faith healing, and later came to the conclusion that it was all B.S., and a sham. Benny Hinn, T.D. Jakes, Joel Osteen, Kenneth Copeland, Pat Robertson of the 700 club, and more, all were and still in my eyes, frauds. I had a woman from church try to force me to speak in tongues. It was an unsettling experience for me, and she became angry because I didn't speak in tongues the way she wanted. I have no respect for Christianity, or any religion that tries to downplay the facts of life, and convince vulnerable people that their faith will "heal" them.
Also, when I grew up my parents were a part of a "faith" church like this and I have memories of learning how to catch people and lay them down on the ground. HAHAHAHAHA
Wow my heart 💔 this really got to me how can anyone live with them selves knowing that they are 100% getting rich off from other people's suffering....God will never ask you for money and never has all the lord wants in return is your undivided love and true faith

The real problem is there are so many people that are broken in the USA. These natural-born salesmen, so-called preachers, use their ability to manipulate people to achieve the American dream. Why not organize that frustration, use it to change our country, to provide health care to all. To make the world more like your dream, god gave you the power, put it into changing the world. Just praying over people will only heal people just as yourself. Why not prevent people from the destruction that ruined your life, so others grow up in a peaceful world. Not the world you grew up in.

Steve may not realize, but he is more of a testimony than the preacher ever could be! His faith and continued walk with God, in the end, will result in his ultimate healing! The preacher was not the inspiration in this documentary. It’s Steve that is the inspiration, we must always have hope for healing and miracles, but you don’t have to have a preacher to heal you, Jesus can do it from anywhere at anytime.

I believe cause god healed my sprain knee i had so much faith he healed my knee on his time i could have gone to doctor but i choose not to i demanded the most high heal my knee thru my faith,prayer,fastening i cried for 2 mos going bed at night cause i couldnt been my knee like i use to and walk when i hurt so im gratful that the lord heard me

I was touched by the young lady said she found power in God within herself and she said great is he that is in me than the person that was trying to kill me... Her faith in God healed her but God did the healing... That touch me tremendously.
How can America still believe it’s the “best country in the world” when you hear things like “my mom is dying because she can’t afford treatment”. As a French, knowing even an illegal non only would get free treatment but couldn’t be kicked out until he’s cured, I’m appalled.
My favorite thing this documentary as Steve pray for Lisa after he taught couldn’t get healed didn’t lost hope in Adonai Yeshua that’s what you call Child of God and True Believer he didn’t lost his faith in the Almighty . Steve also good hearted man props to him.

Got danggit this was a deep one. I think this episode was about more than religion , It’s evident with Steve. I think its more about moving forward , keeping hope, not giving up, staying strong and believing that things will turn out in your favor if you stay positive (which is very hard to do especially in our current time). Ahhh I hope Steve is doing well because I felt so bad when he had to sit down - he was so disappointed but the way he didn’t stay in that disappointment and instead realized maybe that day was the wrong one

A movement? This is a cult... And yet, I love how Lisa gives them the platform to speak and testify without any judgment. It seems to me, though, that these people who turn to this extreme form of faith all had a form of trauma, may it be physical or psychological. It's very telling.

When I was 6 months pregnant I went to one of Todd Bentley's services and he told me I refused the holy spirit when I wouldn't allow him to push me on the floor. And I wouldn't act for the crowd.

This was so interesting and emotional, such a great documentary. Love the humanity being explored and the humanity in Lisa as well as the subjects she speaks with.
When I saw my mom being “touched by the Holy Spirit” or whatever I was genuinely traumatized

Horrible scars on his head.
Today....20 yrs later he STILL wears a mohawk just so people will ask him," SIR!
What HAPPENED to your head!?" And he could say,

When I was in first grade my sisters and I went to a small Pentecost church. After church we walked a short distance with 2 nuns to go to Sunday school in the home they lived in. They taught us about Jesus. One day for some reason the nuns had my older sister who was in 3rd grad sit in a chair, they both laid their hand on her head. She spoke in tongues. I’ll never forget it. When we moved I went to a church on Wednesday night there were some older women who sat in the back pews, raised their hand and spoke in tongues. It was a comfort to me. You knew Jesus was present in the church. Most Christians think speaking in Tongues is weird. I grew up with it. I like it.
Speaking in tongues is in the Bible. The book of Acts, I believe.
