This was an amazing story. Not only do I want a follow up on them, I want to know where Lisa is. I've seen her stories before. She does great interviews and stories on real life.
valeriesuelove You’re right. He is trying. He is a good person. He’s also trying his best as we all are to keep mentally positive as we know this world will beat us to death if we let it. His wife needs to be more supportive or get out there and find a job too! Complaining is not going to help the situation...
None of these fine people on her should feel degraded or useless. You have alot of talents and a day will come that the tide will change. Blessings and the very best to you all.
And I'm not normally for a Dad leaving. Bless his heart but after that hateful Holiday abandonment I woulda took my kitty cat and left the lot of em. Bah. I woulda took my skills and lived in a one bedroom hovel in Miami with my cat. They all just sucked!
Yes it made me feel so sorry for him. They acted as if its been going on a life time. Guess they've forgotten about all the years he worked his butt off for them .
You guys don’t seem to understand, it’s Bob’s pride that’s causing the kids to be that way, He trying to hide the truth so he can pretend everything is fine, he raised the kids , the kids did not raise him.
Why? People like him caused this whole thing and now they whine about it. They did NOTHING when all was right in their world. The writing was on the wall decades ago when industry shipped production to China. The people could have stopped that but did nothing so too bad Stop crying.
I agree . Life's courses brought me to take control of my dream and family when that last paycheck came and gone I started my own lawn service and got free equipment fixed them up and worked them til I got new
I had a father who left my mother broke and struggling. I would have loved to have a father around, who cared enough to try and provide for us. That family should be grateful that he's as kind and caring as he is.
Spot on. These former privelidged kids should toughen up. Those kids should learn about the real world where industry is lost to chyna and get back to basics. Learning about thrift is hard after living the high? life, but getting readjusted to the situation is what has to happen. Sel-sufficiency is what some do.
My dad lost his job in the crisis as well & has been working as a temp ever since. He’s even worked in a callcenter until he found a compatible job. His commute is almost 4 hours everyday. He’s turning 60 this year. No one can ever tell me anything about that man.
For the kids in the first story, you have a mother and a father. You have a roof over your head and food in the fridge. You are driven to school, not in a car as fancy as others but it works. You were not abandoned or abused. You have a father that cares and fixes your lunch every day. What else do you want!???! I wish I had half of that when I was your age!
The thing is they were rich before, and goes from rich to somewhat poor is harder to take esp if they still go to the same school. And looking at the previous lifestyle, nothing prepares them to face such situation
I love your reply and would love to paste it on the Refrigerator of this family where they could read it and maybe allow that message to sink in. However if you were raised in a Bubble, and that's all you are exposed to, than this Video shows the consequences.
Bob’s daughters need to go to the south side of Chicago and volunteer in a soup kitchen for a few days. Maybe then they will realize and appreciate how good they still have it. Perspective is everything.
Can you imagine them being moved to the projects? 😂 lucky they have rich granny and grandpa to pay half the rent on their very big non basic/modest house as the narrator called it. I think Bob seems a great guy but 6 figures and no savings that’s dumb! He works part time and gets food stamps and rent paid they should be able to manage on this and not have to go to food bank.
They'd figure out how to make a cheap meal!Pancakes for dinner, or rice with one egg thrown in for the whole fam. Find out how the rest of the world eats!
Exactly, Im living in a third world and I've seen worst what poverty and life has to offer. Why can't americans appreciate what they are having right now?
I would have never left my dad alone. Once, there was a party, it was going to be a great party I got up very happy that day and had my outfit picked and everything. I learned daddy wasn't going cause he needed to work that day, mom said he had to go cause we needed money, I told her I wasn't going to the party anymore, I put on regular clothes and went to work with dad and participated on whatever I could, I could tell in his face he was so happy and felt so appreciated. I will always love you daddy RIP.
@@ritasf4510 good story. You won by spending that time with him. That memory is far richer than any party. And, as a dad, I can say you made him incredibly proud that day!
I've noticed that people who never had to struggle don't handle financial, job and or health declines well. The coping skills haven't been developed. Poorer people seem always in survival mode and plan multiple ways to combat hardships . The upper middle-class and higher keep looking for their cheese refusing to believe it is gone. If their self worth is tied to their social standing or "image" they refuse to save themselves early on by ditching The "status symbols, expensive homes, materials and debt." Humility and common sense seems harder to attain the wealthier one becomes.
Very true. Poor people don't have to adjust to being poor. It is the middle class to upper middle class that can't adjust because they always had money.
Very true. Poor people are also generally more happy, more generous and more helpful to others, their families and friends. I worked with immigrant farmworkers for years and I have never met more generous, giving, appreciative people.
It broke my heart that the kids make him drop them off in the back. My father is 77 years old now & we grew up poor. Broken down cars, beat up shoes, no eating out... you get the picture. My dad struggled finding work, but he took what he could get. I was proud of him no matter what. I could have never made him feel worse by showing how embarrassed I was. That would have broken his heart. Times have changed very much 🥺
I look at an old pic of me, in my living room, as a kid. I can’t believe how poor & bare it looked! I never felt that poverty, when I lived it. We had each other (family) & we were happy. I can’t imagine treating one of my parents like Bob is treated! Family is love, a parent (& spouse) is not an atm, that is worthless, when they can’t dole out money !
It's not uncommon for kids that age to ask their parents to drop them off. Heavens forbid you you may ask for a kiss or a hug. Her attitude was quite disconcerting remarking about the car. Hey, he got you there. I had to walk.
Same here Dad worked in a steel plant, then became a janitor and owned his own cleaning company. He spoiled me with all the love in the world and was wonderful!
Hey how are you rent speakers don't forget to Jack those prices up beyond the reach of anybody who actually works for a living or is trying hard to get by that way the whole population of America eventually be winding up sitting on a curb and you can laugh and laugh
His daughter is ungrateful, entitled and selfish, and his wife seems like the tree that she fell from. Seems like he’s doing everything possible to recover. Yet, instead of pulling together as a team, all they do is complain. They hate their life compared to what it used to be, but still have much more than many other Americans. When you have this type of family, nothing is ever good enough. He probably ran out of money so quickly because he didn’t manage money wisely and overspent trying to keep his ungrateful family happy, and keep up with the Jones.
Walladah Muhammad you’re right! No one was grateful for anything. Just feeling sorry for themselves. They’re still living in a decent nice home. Over eating and bad diet is not helping. The girls can work now. The wife can encourage and pray for her husband. He’s doing his best. Most of all they should be thankful. It can get worse. No house, no car, he can get sick etc.
They shouldn't have lived in that fancy neighborhood. 6 figure income... should have been saving most of it and living in a modest home in the area. There are more reasonable areas in the NW suburbs than Lake Frikin Bluff
If my kid would told me ,'' I hate this car". I woulda told her, '' you can walk for all I give a damn''. Bob's family is all jacked up. He has an employee mindset that's why their suffering. His wife is a complainer and their kids are weak as hell. If I see my parents hurting financially i'm gonna become entrepreneurial. I would wash cars, cut lawns, cut hair, sell things online. These kids are entitled weak crybabies . Only the strong survive that maxim is stronger today than ever in human history !
I hate it that the children are ashamed of their father. Such ungrateful kids. At least their father is living breathing within reach. How many children are missing fathers who are no longer among the living.
@@redneckblackheart What's really sad is she's old enough to get a part time job. Even one day during the weekend would help, and she'd probably feel better about herself too. I could never sit back while my family suffered like that.
Dederina . My thoughts exactly. The kids are crying for the past, not thinking how they can make things better. Both are old enough to help. But they’re just feeling sorry for what they have lost. I grew up in England after the WW2, we were seven kids in our family, I was four years old, when it ended, my father used to say to us ‘You’re alive! Think lucky’. Poor Bob. He shouldn’t be so hard on himself, just turn his kids into survival mode. ps. My Dad grew most of our food, all organic in those days. We had to paint the chicken house.😂. I could write a book. haha.
@@wanderinggeri8477 yes really. he is doing his best and the family is together because they are all Good Christians. They know family values and the importance of family over material things.
How is it possible that we are measuring a person's worth by how much their paycheck is? Bob seems like one of the best dads out there. Getting laid off can happen to anyone. This same situation happened to my own family when me and my brother were in our teens. We had to get out there and find whatever job was available and contribute to the family. We never blamed our dad for losing his job. We were proud of him and we felt it was our time to help out instead of just always depending on him. That's what a families are supposed to do, help each other in times of hardship. You only have one Dad in your life.
You and your brother were brought up right - it's the parents job to tell his / her kids something so they know what's up. In this story did they ask their oldest daughter to look for a job - no. Would this teen ask to go to work - no. So there you have it.
I agree, I know my parents work so hard..my mum she can’t sit still for nothing..she works everyday and she barely takes a day off but when she does she’s always doing something at home even when the house is clean she will find the smallest thing to do and when there’s nothing else that’s when she will rest..my parents worked very hard to get to where we are now. We are not rich, but my siblings and I do chip in for board and groceries. Once you hit a certain age that’s when you need to find a job and contribute even if you’re still staying with your parents.
It's outrageous that Bob's family deserts him on Christmas and treats him so badly. It's really selfish of them. Unfortunately, it doesn't look good for Bob because of his age. I hope things got better for him.
I hope he had a brain storm and re-branded himself for a self starting career online or elsewhere. Insurance industry means you have computer skills...how about free government sponsored re-training ? I did that at 45. I have recently lost my job, but the skills I learned within 5 years working in a truck and coach apprenticeship are still there. I also have all the tools I aquired and can transfer and adapts all of my new skills set to other work; (work I create myself by advertising for work or just advise online for others to use [you can get paid a sliding scale, depending on how many people click onto you for advice in your field(s)] Bob could, still tape into advising on insurance plans for people, today!!
His family is atrocious! Here's an idea! All the teen children get part time jobs and chip in. Mom gets a job online from home that's flexible with her cancer treatment schedule. Save on electricity by not putting up xmas lights. Have the kids refill their water bottles at the drinking fountain and take reusable bags for lunch. Rent a house without a finished basement, that's cheaper. There's a lot of money being spent that's totally unnecessary! And the kids keeping up appearances? F-that! They can catch a bus to a local public school to save on gas and get over it. I know that's harsh...but families should work together and support one another. Why is this all on Bob???
Kids are just kids. This, unfortunately is a good lesson for them. They will be stronger people..... but if my kids, after everything the family has been through, said “I hate this car” ... I would have stopped the car, got out, and she would have been given a fierce pep talk !
Truth Hurts: I totally agree. I grew up poor and started working part time at age 14. My mom has pancreatic cancer and she worked full time as a secretary until she could retire, despite going for chemo every other week. My dad was a lot like Bob in that after he was laid off he never let his pride interfere with him doing jobs others might find beneath them in order to support our family (night custodian, pumping gas, golf caddy, handyman, etc). I’m super grateful for the family I was blessed to have, despite our financial difficulties. I really hope his kids feel the same way.
America has been declining for years now. The gap between the rich and the poor began getting wider. COVID wasn’t what caused this mess. It was the straw that broke the camels back.
This was 2012, Covid wasn’t even heard of!! This is when the banks turned things upside down and inside out! And the rich bankers still got their bonuses!
This was a result of the financial collapse of 2008, many people including myself lost good jobs which never came back. I was unemployed for 2 years (thankfully I had savings) and I wasn't able to get a job based on my experience so I had no choice but to work for minimum wage at Target. I continued applying for better jobs until I got one which paid a lot more than Target. I still live as if I was making minimum wage and I save/invest 50% of my income. I'm still working but if I had got laid off due to the Coronavirus epidemic I would have been fine.
⚡️I hope All the families are doing well and their situations have improved. I pray that God will give each individual the strength and courage needed to face the difficulties and challenges they are going through. May He bless everyone with health, happiness and prosperity! ✨🙏🏽💖
Sure👌 I vaguely remember the timber industry was having difficult times 1990. A few of those lumber towns folded-!!!😳. Remember when Pittsburgh & steel related cities folded-???🤔.
What is wrong with these people blaming poor Bob for this robbery. Is he an ATM? So what they only loved him when he was making 6 figures? No wonder our world is so messed up. From the macro level down to the micro level, there is no sympathy
Sympathy? Oh god, no. Haha, except now homelessness is the new normal. Maybe people will be nicer once half the country is on cardboard with their dog, but don't hold your breath.
Bob's family is the worst. That is not downsizing. They have a huge house, every one has their own bedroom, they have a car, the dad makes them lunches, and they still complain and are ungrateful. My family lived 8 people in a 2 bedroom apartment with 1 bathroom and we kids pitched in by working after school.
Bob should dump his wife and find a woman and family who will appreciate his contribution to the family. He is helping and doing for the family. He’s not responsible for the change in economy or end to his position.
@@longislandartist No, if reads these comments, he can see that he doesn't need to view himself through their eyes as a failure. He should read all these comments and see that everyone is on his side and that he has worth as a human being apart from producing money for them.

I am not blaming him, but that why discipline is sooo important while raising kids and teaching them to be grateful. If my mom was in the car, and I said that, she would have made me walk the rest of the way. .....and I would've looked back at that moment many years later, and THANKED her for doing that. (lol) : )

The daughter saying, "I hate this car", then walk or take the bus. You should feel blessed to have a car. Some don't have one! She looks like she has her own room, they had to downgrade well at least you still have a decent home. Seems like a bunch of ungrateful people in Bob's family. These kids and his wife REALLY don't have a clue! They just want the lavish lifestyle they had!
Marie parker Omg I felt the same way! Some kids walk or ride the bus! Their “modest” home is better than being out in the st. Count your blessings some people don’t have a roof over their heads
We never had a car and were the poorest in our neighborhood - never treated my dad like dad. Once I started working at 16 I gave him money to help with the rent. Paid my own college and now live in a “neighborhood “ but I taught my kids everything could go south anytime and family makes you happy not material stuff
I know ! That really pissed me off. If that was me , I’d drive straight to the front and then beep once they started walking in and yell “ Mommy loves you !!!” 😆 embarrassing your kids is priceless. If they don’t like it , they can walk to school ! I’ve been driving beaters my whole life , so has my parents. I never cared.
my dad didn't want kids .he tolerated us barely .. And only provided the bare necessities for us . and resented it . didn't ever feel wanted from the get go . at least he's there for his kids and they don't even appreciate it .. He says - see you later sweet heart She says " ughhh i hate this car - slams the car door
Please try to mend things with your father. Do this for yourself so you never have to wonder if you didn’t try hard enough after he is gone. No one wants any form of regret of any kind. Just consider it.
The female forklift worker ..this took place in 2012 I think....shame on her she should have owned a home and she admitted to blowing her money......easy she should have at least $100.000.00 in savings or 401K and money in a home that if she had to sell it even she could have made money from that....she is not totally screwed it said that she had had a union job...with most of those jobs at 55 or 60 you can start to collect ur pension.....
More and more people might face a tough time in retirement. Low-paying jobs, inflation, and high rents make it hard to save. Now, middle-class Americans find it tough to own a home too, leaving them without a place to retire.
This is precisely why I like having a portfolio coach guide my day-to-day market decisions: with their extensive knowledge of going long and short at the same time, using risk for its asymmetrical upside and laying it off as a hedge against the inevitable downward turns, their skillset makes it nearly impossible for them to underperform. I've been utilizing a portfolio coach for more than two years, and I've made over $800,000.

Exactly. Seems the wife is a spoiled person. I would never leave my husband home alone for Christmas! Even if we didn't get along. I'd tell mom and dad to ...
hi hippiechick, I don't think he is doing everything possible. He looks for good paying jobs, or jobs he wants, instead of a full time job. And as this was aired back in 2012, he was out of a job for 4 years! I know it was tough on him to loose his job and the strain it caused for himself and his family. Also, I don't know why his in-laws are treating him badly. I can guess though! Was there a follow up on this video, about Bob? Where is he now? I'd like to know, and hope he and his family are doing well.
They should be so lucky to even have a roof over their head. Better teach them early not to be so materialistic. I had a job in school and if I wanted something I paid for it.
Some people just don't know what struggling looks like if you have food to eat and shelter you are fine. I feel bad for Bob because his family is blaming him for unfortunate events instead of eating humble pie. You do what you have to do until you can do better. Privilege is something else.
Monticelle Scates it’s so sad. How many relationships were damaged and will be during this. Very sad. We matter outside what material we bring to the table or lack there of.

My husbands first car was a 2003 Nissan Maxima and I remember how happy and grateful we were that we could finally take the kids anywhere they wanted. He took us to the beach for our first trip. You should’ve seen our smiles. We appreciate him so much. Bob deserves better.
This poor man. He should drive his children to the front of the school, and refuse to carry such a heavy burden of shame. He provided for his family and the 2009 meltdown wasn't his fault.
I agree but what annoys me is his family's attitude. He stated that this has put a strain on his marriage, his in-laws don't speak to him and his kids are ashamed of the car he drives. Don't they all see that he's doing the best he can under the circumstances? When he was making a telephone number salary, he was the perfect father and provider but once he lost that high-paying job, he is huge failure. Trashy ungrateful family.
his kids and wife are the worst...when they were eating high on the hog they wasnt complaining how 4 years hes down they are turning aganist him smh..I am all about my paper and loyality but this is just wrong smh
He is such a good man, how could he marry that so called wife, and let her raise those kids to be such lowlives, shame on them to make this man feel so small! Unforgivable and disgusting behavior
Madison, you’re 16. If you hate the car so much you can go out and get a part time job and save money to buy your own car. When keeping up with the Joneses goes wrong.
This is hardship for them? My parents lived through the depression. I worked for a year and saved for a car when I was 17. Never expected my parents to pay for anything. Get used to it. It isn't going to get any better.
Marie Taylor Looked to me that Bob’s family was living in a very nice home compared to the average American. Her parents paid the rent. Those children could do some type of work as well as going to school. They probably could budget their food expense. Only one doing everything was Bob and he was the only one that looked normal weight. You can save a lot of money if you plan your meals correctly and you don’t add in lots of ready to eat food. Bob is a very devoted spouse and father.
You dont know their marital issues. My moms father died in 2005 and my dad didnt go up north with me, my mom, nd my brother because he was selfish. So sad. He was always jealous of my mothers family.
The United States Congress and State governments need to enforce the age discrimination laws they choose to ignore. It is against the law to discriminate against older people but it happens frequently. Most older people who get laid off, whether in personal or in-mass layoffs, have difficulty getting another job because, if they are over 40, they're considered old by today's employers' and corporations' standards. Loss of homes, unemployment benefits that run out, and homelessness follows. Even worse, older people are forced to take early Social Security at age 62 instead of waiting until 66. When they have no choice but to take early monthly SS checks, they lose at least 25% of SS income for as long as they live. Women, living on SS, are probably the highest numbers living in poverty in the USA. For many decades, businesses have been disloyal when they discriminated against competent, loyal employees in favor of employing younger, less costly and skilled workers. This scenario continues against older workers today. I pray our government will help the elderly who became poor due to being shut out of decent employment opportunities and suffer this terrible loss of SS benefits they were entitled to previously.
However, I do wonder how Bob was when he had all of that money. Was he as empathetic as we are about his situation? Was he kind to the poor or did he turn his nose up and treat them like rodents? Makes you wonder doesn't it?🤔
I know so many children out here and mothers out here that would kill for a father/partner like Bob. The ungratefulness of his family hurts my heart. Positive thoughts create positive realities.
Why is the Wife and her family blaming the Dad. He lost his job , he wasn’t fired and he’s trying his best to do what he can. So the wife loves him when he can provide and when he can’t, then turns her back on him. This guy loves his children and I hope the children realize how lucky they are to have a father like him , who would do anything to support his children. BTW why doesn’t the wife work , and his teenage kids should work too.
That really got up my nose also. It seems as though their love has a dollar value and it can be bought. You can take the trash out of the trailer but they remain trailer trash!
My heart goes out to these folks, l remember the days when we barely made it. Thank God my husband and sons are all master electricians. We are blessed.
What an awful attitude to allow this selfish daughter to have - "I hate this car" as she gets out. She sounds like her Mom. It's all about Kylie Jenner and the lifestyle.
I finally got a new (to me car) after driving my other one for 20+ years. I got it cheap on a neighborhood listserv, when the daughter of the seller (a college student) needed a better car. I will take that car gladly, due to low mileage and cheap maintenance and big enough space to be able to live out of the car (if ever necessary). Yes, I always assume paychecks will stop and so I buy my cars with the thought in mind, can I sleep in it with my dog and have space to my essentials. Growing up as poor as I did, I never assume there is money to buy groceries.
Ikr! I don't even have a car because I can't afford the car insurance, gas and maitenance. Me and my 2 girls have to walk almost everywhere we go. So yeah I'd be as happy as a lark to own a vehicle.
10:00 Bob, from the Netherlands, in EU, there's someone very proud of you, for the time and these little sweet things you do for your kids. You HAVE a place in heaven. your 'worth' as a father and a husband doesn't even go down a bit in my eyes. You are a wonderful person, even without that ton of cash you could haul with an 'executive' job. Being a janitor, though being sadly underpaid, is an important job. What people would do if no one would tidy up and take the trash out?? we live in a sad world of ungratitude.... I pray for you!!!
What do you mean "when does the positive stuff come". Pretty sure it was pretty positive and you wasn't complaining when he was bringing home 6 figures and ya was living in an huge house. Some people are just so unappreciative and ungrateful.
Thank you I was thinking the same thing. Like you had decades and not one person thought to I don't know save not rent a multi million dollars homes and all the jazz. Smh she thought she had the golden egg and now she is like what good are you even though you took care of me for decades.
Her memory is short. They had the positive " stuff" on Jersey. Spoiled and entitled, she should be extremely grateful to have a mate during hardship. There should be a follow up on these cases.
This is a teachable moment. This is why saving is important. Don’t buy a giant house you can’t afford and fill it with stuff you don’t need. He was making great money, the family should have lived cheaper and bought a house they could pay off, a car that was cheaper, save for an emergency. Instead you created spoilt entitled kids and a selfish wife.
Wasteful Hussy very hard for many to save living pay check to pay check. Many citizens cannot save for even a $400 emergency. The system is and has been a failure.
I am seeing this documentary on 2024. Mr. Bob is an excellent person , good father, good husband and is treated so bad. My prayers for him and his children and that today they may have a better situation.
My family and I went through something similar when I was in Highschool. At the time I was selfish and didn’t understand and I’m ashamed on how I acted. Even though their life has changed they have family that have them living much better then those without. The father doesn't directly control the job market. The family as a team could create a job or jobs to help.
This right here. I don't think people realize that what we're about to enter will be worse than the Great Depression. My husband and I have been saving money like crazy. We're good at saving anyway, but we've ramped it up! We're living off of $200 per week! No splurges and we're making food and freezing it.
Andrey Che O.K. but this isn’t a decade old, it says that it’s from 2012. Not that 8 years vs. 10 years is much of a difference but if you want to persuade people to change their minds and be better you have to be 100% accurate or else they’ll think the real things you’re saying are also not true.
Bob should shake himself off of those leeches and parasites he calls a family. That's what happens when you raise your family on material gifts, instead of human principles and true family values!

These thoughtless kids better realize, the jobs that their parents had decades ago, they won't even realize, they will probably still be living at home with their Parents! Parent's STOP SPOILING your Children, let them face reality with you, and what they can expect when they become young adults, wanting to SPREAD their wings!
This is why even when times were good, we always lived below our means. We never bought new cars or took lavish vacations. I had an old flip phone when people I knew making less money than me were buying the latest and greatest new techy thing.
Experiences yes - lavish? Not important to me - but if you have lots of savings & choose 'lavish' - to each his own. going to unique & fun places with your family can build wonderful memories. how others spend their money is up to them. But only if they have a huge savings account for emergencies.
I m not sure about the oldest kids of Bob’s . They could’ve work part time at fast food place instead of blaming him n feel sorry themselves aaaand hating the car their have .
exactly...and what is that i heard young lady..."i hate this car"...really. Our children are spoiled and unrealistic. I lift the entire family and marriage up in prayer. This is no reason for divorce. STick it out. Our grandparents dealt with a whole lot more STick it out.
because no matter how liberal america looks on the outside, they are still conservative on the inside and one of the ways this shows up is in gender roles: women expect their husbands to always be strong and never fail. the women feel ashamed and resentful if their husbands can't "be a man".
Felicia George Because in the economic crisis it turned out that no one had ever saved. Everyone was leasing cars and had homes and mortgages that were way to expensive
This is America. Too superficial and materialistic. You don't hve to be in a new car to get where u need to go. We teach our kids that name brands is a must. God give us wealth to help others.
TundraWoman Says u may never taught them that but do you "correct" them. Most families I'm noticing rarely raise children to understand what's right and wrong that's the problem.
Wish they could do a follow-up on these families! Would love to hear how their journeys have continued, including how these experiences have shaped these kids who are now young adults.
“I hate this car”...this is America and our times. A daughter that humiliates her father and doesn’t want her friends to see that car because she is spoilt and ashamed to show that her family has some temporary financial problems. Only a shallow mind who probably wanted only to show off rich life in fb and Instagram and she is mad because at that moment it was not possible.
@Meagan E yes but it is sad and a symptom of our shallow capitalistic times where all that matters is to appear happy, rich and successful. Social media are not helping...When I was a kid, about 30 years ago I think we cared a bit less about material things and social status.
Going to those kind of schools, there more pressure from other kids being able to have stuff and their parents driving cool cars.I'm not saying what she saying about hating her father's car is right, but one the factors.
Poor guy 😥. He seems like a great dad and husband. His family doesn't appreciate him. They should be grateful. I have seen men that have a lot of money and still don't do for their families as much as this guy does.
Ms.Courtney : I am here after Covid 2020.I thought this documentary was taken during Covid 19 and was shocked it happened about 8-9 years ago. What a coincidence that many people who are unprepared for the Covid-related job losses today will lose their homes & livelihood because of lack of savings ,materialism & heavy household debt levels similar to the last economic crisis.

@@momovaryacting8798 you're absolutely right. thats an issue with most people though, at the low and upper middle class spectrum. most people blow all of their money. i make anywhere from $110-140k a year net, but i lived on 30k for 15 years... i was a millionaire in 13 years because i live frugally and invest most of my income. im 47 and i could retire and live off of my investments if i wanted. i sacrificed in the moment to be able to live a great life later on. i still work, because why not, but i now go on vacations 10 times a year with a vacation budget of 20k a year. ive increased my lifestyle spending but im still investing and growing my wealth to leave to my kids
I agree. Bob seems a very thoughtful and caring person who does not do any bad/harmful things to him or to his family. His family should be more appreciative to him.
These children need to stop complaining both of their parents are still able to draw breath ! You should have to live my life and leave what I have gone through ! I have never worked a day in my life and I am in a wheelchair with cerebral palsy . The doctor said I wouldn't be able to live past my first year but I survived by the grace of God . My dad worked for 27 so he can have a house just like that who died before he was able to really enjoy the house that worked his whole life to get. All you have is sit there and make do with what you have, there is nothing wrong with driving around in an old car. The lesson here is be the ant and not the grasshopper! In my book that is a beautiful home so why is everybody being such a snob. Some people just don't know how easy they really have it. At the end of the day all cars and houses are just sheet metal brick and mortar. Would you really need to worry about is how you going to take care of your family in the end of the day! It doesn't matter what it looks like as long as you get you from point A to point B and, you have a safe place to lay your head at the end of the day! We need to get our attraction the glitz and glamour out of our head! All that really matters are the essentials. If you want anything else you got to work for it. The moral of the story is always work to improve but, be grateful for what you have because you can always lose it. how Hard times breed more champions than privilege. 😎
ElijahEjTurbo Russ completely agree! I try and practice mindfulness every day and it helps. Even though I rent and would like to have just a modest home, I don’t and probably won’t. But I’m grateful for the home we do have and the happiness me and my partner share. But I fear things will get much more challenging with Covid and our economic future. Watching this documentary made me shudder about our current future.
Living poor in a wealthy area inflicts pain on the entire family . That family is trying to live in the past and they are slowly dying. Those kids could have made new friends and taken jobs like other working-class kids with a sense of pride.

I wish they'd do a follow-up so I could see how my boy Bob is doing. Really rooting for that guy. His wife and in-laws could be living under a bridge for all I care.
I feel for him but the key is to always live below your means. They did not have to live in the first neighborhood. The job incentivised it but it wasnt mandatory. He created spoiled kids and a spoiled wife by thinking that his whole self worth as a man was to have money and throw it at his family. Had he lived modestly despite his paycheck and saved the excess that he was wasting hed be in a better situation. But you can see the pain in his eyes and it is absolutely heartbreaking. I hope it gets better for him.

Exactly, it’s not his fault that his position was axed and the economy crashed. When he moved from NJ he didn’t think he would end up in the position, they were living a dream that turned nightmare. He immediately tried to find a good job, but the job market is terrible. His wife and her parents blame him for something that’s out of his control?? FOH
He's staying behind with the cat on Christmas while the rest of his family gets to fly to the grandparents' house and all be together? COME ON! What a terrible thing on him to have to accept and for the wife/kids to allow.
I’m so glad I grew up so poor. Today I have a few more dollars than my parents did and in a few more years hope to have my house paid off. I basically had nothing as a kid and committed myself to having something when I grew up. I think thats called perspective.
Same here. My mother was a hard working woman but she struggled like most single parents do. We were evicted multiple times it was humiliating and demeaning. It made me determined not to ever relive that reality again. Being poor as a child gave me perspective and drive.
I grew up so poor we didn't have running water or heating. Gradually, we struggled to get from sheer abject poverty to just poor. I built my house in 1966 and did the work myself. Took forty years to get it completed. Now the property taxes are more than my social security retirement income.

I never resented my husband when he lost his job. It was out of his control. I got a part time job and we managed, he later got a job and it worked out. Bob's family is horrible. They were spoiled and now they're thankless. He deserves better. His family is selfish 😒
It's one thing the kids, but his wife to be so resentful and basically make him sleep in the basement (it was also clear he was hinting they were not intimate) is disgusting.

It certainly has😞
It's not uncommon for kids that age to ask their parents to drop them off. Heavens forbid you you may ask for a kiss or a hug. Her attitude was quite disconcerting remarking about the car. Hey, he got you there. I had to walk.

Sad but true. Society judges us by our jobs, bank account, whether we are married with children or not.

So true, yes indeed
Rebecca Philantrope 💯
This was 2012, Covid wasn’t even heard of!! This is when the banks turned things upside down and inside out! And the rich bankers still got their bonuses!
We have never had a lot but have always been grateful for what we have. Life is so much more than big houses and lots of money.
Who else would like to have a 2024 update on Bob❓
Honestly I'm worried about him. His story is a lot of people's story, and a big contributor to rates of self harm in this country.
I hope he is okay & his family stayed together
HOPEFULLY THEY ARE DOING BETTER NOW AND WIFE IS. HEALED !!

The Truth Will Set You Free ♥️
Exactly! He is a good man, give him a break smh
Sympathy? Oh god, no. Haha, except now homelessness is the new normal. Maybe people will be nicer once half the country is on cardboard with their dog, but don't hold your breath.
Bob, i hear you. I feel you
I agree 100%, for American people being poor is something to be ashamed of, no money, no worth.
Big difference... Y'all had a grateful attitude and worked as a team. That's family !
They are the epitome of ungrateful. Vile, entitled and cold.
Bob should dump his wife and find a woman and family who will appreciate his contribution to the family. He is helping and doing for the family. He’s not responsible for the change in economy or end to his position.
Well now he's depressed, TOO. GOOD JOB, GUYS!!!!

When the daughter said he hates his car that is very mean

The daughter saying, "I hate this car", then walk or take the bus. You should feel blessed to have a car. Some don't have one! She looks like she has her own room, they had to downgrade well at least you still have a decent home. Seems like a bunch of ungrateful people in Bob's family.
These kids and his wife REALLY don't have a clue! They just want the lavish lifestyle they had!
Marie parker
Omg I felt the same way!
Take the bus you entitled brat. How dare his daughter.
Those kids are so spoiled and selfish ..white privilege at its best .
I haven't seen my father in over ten years. I have no idea what's like to have a caring and dedicated father as Bob. His family doesn't deserve him
I didn't have a dad growing up. We tried having a relationship a few times but it didn't work.
My father don't ask for me and my kids
my dad didn't want kids .he tolerated us barely .. And only provided the bare necessities for us . and resented it . didn't ever feel wanted from the get go . at least he's there for his kids and they don't even appreciate it .. He says - see you later sweet heart
She says " ughhh i hate this car - slams the car door
Me also
Please try to mend things with your father. Do this for yourself so you never have to wonder if you didn’t try hard enough after he is gone. No one wants any form of regret of any kind. Just consider it.
Bob was very brave to do that interview. I pray for him and his family.
I applaud him.
Pray for all of US. We are headed to the 1930’s Great Depression
I wondered what happened to them. Did the wife survive. What happened to Bob. I could never do this interview it would be too hard,
What good is praying going to do. Exactly nothing.

They probably feel like he is not trying hard enough to find another job. My heart hurts for his family
It's not their responsibility to pay a 55-year old man's bills. Unless, they're billionaires, it's a real problem.
hi hippiechick, I don't think he is doing everything possible.

Bob is a very devoted spouse and father.
she wants to leave bob, but shes too old and no one wants her

Marie Taylor yea I hope Bob himself is doing better but sadly since the pandemic there will be many more situations like this
You dont know their marital issues. My moms father died in 2005 and my dad didnt go up north with me, my mom, nd my brother because he was selfish. So sad. He was always jealous of my mothers family.
Man. I’m sorry Bob, I don’t think you deserve this treatment.
None of us deserve bad treatment...no matter what!
The United States Congress and State governments need to enforce the age discrimination laws they choose
to ignore.
I wonder how Bob and his family are doing now, eight years later? I hope things are better. If he had a Gofundme right now, I’d donate to it.
However, I do wonder how Bob was when he had all of that money. Was he as empathetic as we are about his situation? Was he kind to the poor or did he turn his nose up and treat them like rodents? Makes you wonder doesn't it?🤔
These kids are spoiled. There are way worse off people. Be grateful for what you have, and NEVER be ashamed of your dad for doing the best he can!!!

Bob hopefully filed for divorce or his wife did. Because being in that family? MISERABLE.
My heart is literally breaking for BOB! How can his family be so disgusting to him. ALSO their daughter is 16 she can get a DAMN JOB!

What do you mean - reaping what he saw? He seems to be a great guy. And they seem to be treating him as less than

She can buy her own car! See how much she can afford
Or his wife???
Why is the Wife and her family blaming the Dad. He lost his job , he wasn’t fired and he’s trying his best to do what he can. So the wife loves him when he can provide and when he can’t, then turns her back on him. This guy loves his children and I hope the children realize how lucky they are to have a father like him , who would do anything to support his children. BTW why doesn’t the wife work , and his teenage kids should work too.

Felicia George Because in the economic crisis it turned out that no one had ever saved. Everyone was leasing cars and had homes and mortgages that were way to expensive
This makes me angery, i wish i had a father like bob, hes trying, why dont the teenagers get a part time job, bob you are a great man.🤧🙏🏼🙏🏼
Because the part time jobs are being taken by the unemployed adults.
Or the wife!
This is America. Too superficial and materialistic. You don't hve to be in a new car to get where u need to go. We teach our kids that name brands is a must. God give us wealth to help others.
The sadder things is they use a car to go everywhere they go...even in the city. Its weird and unhealthy as fk,
Right. Some people are so poor all they have is money.
I never taught my kids nor my grandkids that. Stop buying into the media’s definition of what everyone else allegedly “does” or “teaches.”
TundraWoman Says u may never taught them that but do you "correct" them. Most families I'm noticing rarely raise children to understand what's right and wrong that's the problem.
over imagination the trains go to Chicago but I didn’t see them talking about driving to the city or do you mean driving to downtown of their suburb?
Kids are like this because of social media... kids will turn on their parents when times are tough...
Going to those kind of schools, there more pressure from other kids being able to have stuff and their parents driving cool cars.I'm not saying what she saying about hating her father's car is right, but one the factors.
Yep, agree. Those kids should be taught that a paid off car is awesome!
This is capitalism.
Barb and Tink are truly amazing inspiring souls… love and light ❤
Poor guy 😥. He seems like a great dad and husband. His family doesn't appreciate him. They should be grateful. I have seen men that have a lot of money and still don't do for their families as much as this guy does.
Agree.
Who is here in Covid 2020 during the "new" recession?
Ms.Courtney : I am here after Covid 2020.I thought this documentary was taken during Covid 19 and was shocked it happened about 8-9 years ago. What a coincidence that many people who are unprepared for the Covid-related job losses today will lose their homes & livelihood because of lack of savings ,materialism & heavy household debt levels similar to the last economic crisis.

He is really trying. The wife looks like all she does is complain.
She's got cancer. She needs health benefits and four years is plenty of time to find something with benefits. He might need to relocate and take a job elsewhere. He can work overseas and have rent included.
Nobody wants to struggle. If complaining is how you get through it, do that. If you've never experienced homelessness or starvation, don't tell people how to react to it.😒
@@sjlewis271 If you've never experienced cancer and struggling to support 3 children while doing it don't tell anyone how to react to a long term unemployed husband. Just sayin'.
Kenesha Glover I can’t with that woman,At least he’s trying which is more than I can say for a lot of men,I know.
Telling the truth isn't complaining. She has cancer. She must feel terrify. Knowing she can't help.
Every person that complains about their job should watch this. Make you appreciate it.
The wife just needs to be grateful. At least the dad is doing what he can! He is a jewel of a man! At least he has a car! That is a praise! If you have a roof over your head, food in your belly, and clothes on your back, you are blessed! They have a running vehicle - wow! That’s a praise!
Are they trying to drive Bob into having a heart attack? Frustration, disappointment and worry is understandable. Why place all the blame on Bob.
Is she trying to help Bob? Or is she a heavy weight
You would be surprised what humans do to one another when they are unhappy and demanding.... which is one of the reasons I didn't have kids.
That’s most people normal life. Hustling every day to survive.
Grettel Triana exactly! They don’t even realize because they have been so privileged for so long

My grandma use to say, the more money you make the more money you spend. Truth be told, people make 6 figures & they tend to get the biggest house they can! I don’t get it but I guess cause I live very modest & within my means. But happy to say my family has a roof over their head, food & good health 🙏🏼

LIVE FRUGALLY AND INVEST WHEN YOUNG TO RETIRE RICH do you have any content surrounding your story? Would be interesting to hear more...
Having a father who cares enough, doing his best. Amazing person that means more than "material things"
I agree. Bob seems a very thoughtful and caring person who does not do any bad/harmful things
to him or to his family. His family should be more appreciative to him.
Why can't Bob's in-laws help him get a job in their area? Something tells me they didn't like him from the start.
Oh ... a bangk$ter ... nuff said
@Martika Booker Yes this family is an example of things done good and bad.
@Martika Booker well women look at men for what they can provide. What, did you think she loved him?😂😂😂
I get the same impression.
That's a 'modest' house? These people don't know what poor is.
Exactly!
I know right?! Sort of thinking the same thing.
Modest? They should see my tiny apt. jeez
Living poor in a wealthy area inflicts pain on the entire family . That family is trying to live in the past and they are slowly dying. Those kids could have made new friends and taken jobs like other working-class kids with a sense of pride.
Yes, NEED an update on this episode! Where are all of them today?
What wife and children leave their DAD alone on Christmas? That’s just poor character, not economics.

I really want to know if Bob is okay. This was shot in 2012. I wonder if he is OK. Hope so.
Watching this in 2024. Makes me realize that I should save more and be better with my money.
Ungrateful wife and children. There are homeless families living on the streets. Bob is trying. Barb and Tink are amazing.
is sad to see even the kids dot give the father the respect.not cool

If I lived in a family like this I'd RATHER spend the holidays with the cat, wouldn't you?
Irina Dovgan Had my family told me my husband wasn't welcome just because he was going through a bad spell, they wouldn't see me either. Shameful.

While they were off having a good time i would kill myself in an extremely messy way let them come home to that
I’m so glad I grew up so poor.
Second that Don! Because I grew up poor everything is an upgrade for me!
I grew up so poor we didn't have running water or heating. Gradually, we struggled to get from sheer abject poverty to just poor. I built my house in 1966 and did the work myself. Took forty years to get it completed. Now the property taxes are more than my social security retirement income.

You know, we Americans ought to be ashamed at what we call “hardship” and the dumb financial choices we make.
Jo Lisa Dukarić Capitalism hasn’t been around in a long time. If there were free markets, most of these people never would have seen a $90k yearly salary to begin with.
So true . My parent doesn't speak a word of English. I was 13 year old when I came to live in US. There are seven of us living in a studio apartment. Finally we move to live in government housing. During the stay there we got rub. We don't have much but my parent know how to save. My parents doent have money to help me pay for college. I am grateful for the government grant. My younger sister now RN and I am working as a CT technologist makeover 100k a year. I own my first home at the age of 37. I am grateful for government to help me . I know without government help i would not be where I am.
Noeun oum Good to know! Everybody loves to see hardworking people get a hand up and make the most of it.
@Jo Lisa Dukarić Capitalism you have to be Kidding , What we have is Not Capitalism 0% interest loans ,bailouts, pay no Taxes, manipulate Tax policies, Manipulate Trade Trade Deals to undercut American workers,The Healthcare System, Environmental Laws, etc etc. What we have is a Domestic War being waged on Low and Middle Class America and if you believe you've done everything right and those people aren't you and they aren't coming for you then your deeply in trouble.
@Jo Lisa Dukarić I hate people that blame a system of trade that has lifted more people OUT of poverty than any other system of trade in the history of mankind, to deny that fact is sheer ignorance and stupidity. Some individual choices have bad results ..youre college professor did you no justice... think for yourself
I wish I had a dad like Bob.
How could Bob's wife be so disrespectful?
@WHATS YOURSOC

I volunteer once a month at a foodbank that has served as many as 150 families a week. Anyone who makes fun of those who are struggling are horrible people - they just need to wait - their time will come. Because pain and sorrow hits us all at one time or another.
I slept on the couch of a one bedroom trailer until 7th grade. Then a twin bed in the hallway of a bigger trailer. Never had a room of my own. At 12 years old started babysitting to buy shoes for school. I was blessed I didn't know how poor we were. If I ever said "I hate this car" I would be beaten with a belt. Worked my way through college. Gratitude moves us forwar.
These kids had it too good for too long. Remaining in their school with more fortunate friends can't be healthy.
Bob and his family have not let go of their old life. I have experienced downsizing and accepting a whole new location, career and lifestyle is beneficial.
WE don't know the whole story. I wonder if the wifes family see opportunities for Bob in South Carolina.
I pray for Bob and his family. May the church provide counseling and solace for them all.
I will say it over and over, people don't have empathy until it happens to them.
This dude stuck with you while you were sick, and this is how you react? This is the problem of patriarchy alot of people don't want to address, how most women view men only as a side wallet.
Easy to blame. Look with bigger vision JOBs. Jobs. Benefits and pension for retirement?? Where is it. No leaders talk about it. They only talk about Abortion/LGBT/Racism. Real problems are ignored due to Filthy wealthy corporation investors influencing leaders mind.
