I never knew there were hidden ways to make the stages easier, i think this game should have included a difficulty select for an easy mode it would have made the game a lot more tolerable

Not gonna lie, looking at the CD-i as a game console and calling it a console and all that is a bit disingenuous.

hey idk if this helps any, but contrary to popular belief, the cd-i was not actually technically a games console, more of a multimedia home computer that could play games. for instance, the reason the default controller is bad for playing games is because its more designed for navigating menu interfaces, as most families would get it for playing music cds, photo cds, or, if u had the addon, video cds. funnily enough, your metaphor about buying a vcr that cant play videocassettes is accidently apt, as to play vcds u need to purchase a mpeg-support addon cartridge seperately (digital video was expensive at the time).
it is weird to think about given most ppl getting or owning a cd-i nowadays will be getting it for its unique game library, but the cd-i is a lot closer to a webtv or an e-machines computer than a nintendo, to make a probably poor comparison.
apologies for the long comment, im just quietly obsessed with multimedia machines of the early 90s.

The worst part about Larry's Hotel is that for people back in the 90's, it gets even worse since they would have to use a dinky old CRT. CRT TVs, while not as good as OLED or Plasma, can have much darker blacks than LCDs and some CRTs are also very reflective. That means that the chances for those people to be able to see the other floors would be more impossible than already is
