first and only ball game video i found on youtube, thank you coming from the same place (love of timeless balls), i'm working on my own right now!! A ball roguelike where you build your own ball army and conquer all enemies
i have another ball game for you to add to your collection. Two of them, in fact. The Kororinpa games were a duo of games that released for the Wii. They used *motion controls* and the sequel also had a shoehorned story that wastes some of your time. However, despite everything, they ARE still ball games. Believe it or not, the motion controls were used in a somewhat innovative manner. Similarly to Super Monkey Ball, you cannot directly control the marble, but you control the tilt of the stage, but unlike Super Monkey Ball, the rotation of your Wiimote has NO limits. You can tilt sideways and upside down to make the marble roll onto walls and ceilings. Is it smooth to play? Not particularly, but you can still get some fun out of it. It even has a pretty high skill ceiling. (But to ever get to that ceiling, you would have to spend dozens of hours practicing motion controls...)
Not many comments seem to talk about it so I can say that Banana Rumble is a definite return to form. Has cringy story like SMB2 but the actual gameplay and level design is just as good as the original games. The new gimmick of boosting your ball is also implemented well (unlike the jumping from Blitz) and the music is fucking amazing. It also has a really fun multiplayer mode that's only bogged down by the Switch's abysmal online performance.
To this day I’ll defend Super Monkey Ball Adventure. There’s enough in that game that to me proves it’s passion (IE the unlockable party monkeys and mini games still stayed strong). The world building too taking the little we saw during the first two games and creating a whole fantasy world with new unique characters is no easy feat and if you try to accept what it is I think SMBA2 has some serious potential for a new game
Same here. It's definitely not the main SMB games, nor is it trying to be. It works best when you take it for what it is; a spin-off developed by a third party, using the originals more as inspiration than prescription.

It's a loose definition of a ball but 100% still a ball game but Archer Maclean's Mercury on the PSP is my favorite ballgame of all time. It's balls hard but really fair and satisfying when you do beat a pain of a level.
Here’s a ball game without a ball: Mercury Meltdown Revolution. Basically, instead of a ball, it’s a blob of liquid mercury, which adds a surprising amount of nuance as to how the game operates/is played as compared to other normal ball games, like the blob splitting and you now maneuvering two separate blobs at once. I played this game on the Wii as a kid and I’ll never forget it. I’m pretty sure there was one or two games that came before it but I haven’t played them, and there haven’t been any games with this IP since MMR.
