That's unfortunate. I remember buying cheap CD-R discs back when mp3 downloading was a thing. And those discs would rot within months. I guess the coating on quality dics in games and movies are better quality, but wear off over time. Cartridges will probably last longer.
I checked a few brand new music CDs we just bought within the last year and a few have these pin holes in them. I'm pretty sure they are manufacturing related not rot. ROT looks different.
Try more than one system to test games as well. Lasers will go out on older systems, I have to have my turbo duo R refurbished and my friends Saturn and PS2 needed new lasers.
@@classicretrogameroom these pin holes are not rot and will not get worse over time. These pin holes were there when the game was made new. I did some research myself and found that these pin holes are not rot and do not effect playing. I looked through that last 10 or so music CDs we bought in the last year and 3 of them have 1 or more pin holes in there. It's just how they are made. Write down where the holes are and come back 5 years later and no more holes will be there. Disc rot is different and forms differently. Look it up before you worry yourself too much.

Well so far carts have already proved to be longer lasting, I think sunlight is the main enemy of the CDR 🙁
Carts will last thousands of years
Write down / pictures where the pin holes are. Put those games away for a few years and I bet you no more pin holes will be there.

@@absoluteclownworld update 2 years later?
@@gazzabethyname No change on any of my disc based games. I check yearly on most of my valuable games.
We need a disc rot update? 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I would sell the lot and treat yourself to a new car.

Some consoles like the Saturn the pots can be adjusted on the laser as its power starts to fade.
Yes unfortunately I didnt check any games at the time of purchase for holes 🙁
