Thank you Jonno * Professor Tim ! I listen to this interview , after accidentally stumbling across another video. I was told ( 40 Yrs ago ) by a Dr. In Jo’burg, that I had “a bit of sugar, nothing to worry about ! That’s after asking why I sometimes felt lightheaded! A few years later , after moving to Perth , I mentioned “sugar “ to a local Dr, who eventually convinced me to get tested! I avoided going back, but family encouraged me , and I was officially diagnose “ type 2 diabetic !“ I was prescribed with Metformin , and used 3 x tablets a day , roughly, for about 2x years, until I decided to stop use medication , and attempt to eat properly! 4x months later, after blood test , I made an appointment for my results. The Dr was very pleased, and suggested I continue doing whatever I was doing ! The Dr . was horrified when I “confessed “ that I had stopped using medication , and ask why I did ?🤷 It’s almost 9 Yrs now , no medication , and blood levels are good , and no known problems! It’s not easy alone, ( not been a medical person) as I’am really not sure. Who to trust? I can’t tell the difference between ( Drs + PW)…… prescription writers . Rupert
Why is that when I try to go back to traditional runner Whole Foods high carb from bananas, potatoes and oatmeal, I just PUT ON FAT despite all the cardio! I mean I know why haha, just need to stop falling back to carbs😑
Thank you for posting this very interesting discussion. First stumbled upon Prof. Noakes' work with him discussing 'Waterlogged'. Was seeking for a solution to correct Diabetes Insipidus type condition; which - among other contributing factors - resulted from drinking too much water. It seems that when one's metabolism is not optimal, the Antidiuretic Hormone is suppressed; with fluid being flushed through the kidneys; this instead of developing life-threatening Hyponatremia? Wondered if you had tested exercise performance in relationship to Sodium levels, and how do athletes do when FASTING before, during, and after performing?
Not sure I follow.. Ive heard Prof Noakes speak a lot about the body creating glucose through the process of gluconeogenesis.. yet he never brings it up here, and rather says that at some point in a race, to take a little glucose in if you start to feel your energy levels fall. This whole talk confuses me.. seems he’s saying that we probably need an amount of carbs at some point in a long race. I know that this isn’t the same as carb loading, but it is still “loading” in some carbs at a certain point. For myself,, I’m not a competing athlete.. but I do cycle 50 to 70 miles 3 to 4 times a week on zero carbs (prior to or during ). My body is fine on zero carbs .. is he talking about at the professional level ?
Well, I have noticed that I run better (great energy levels) if I have drank some alcohol day before.. I might feel otherwise horrible if drinking had been heavy, but running still works great. I would have guessed that when I drink alcoholic drinks, I also drink some carbs, and when I burn that alcohol, it spares carbs. Or it might have something to do how alcohol affects hydration status. Or maybe it's the blood glucose, like indicated - found this piece of information ("...as over time drinking too much alcohol decreases the effectiveness of insulin, which leads to high blood sugar levels"). Also, in the "born to run" -book tarahumaras drink heavily night before they play that ultrarunning ball game... I would guess that burning off the high blood glucose isn't entirely bad.

I have chronic bronchitis,it turns to mild asthma at night. I have given up bread cut down drasticly on pasta . Now I eat more fat eggs and meat. Im trying to identify allergies. Do I have to go pure keto one meal a day ?
@@neilbush9873 for me it really helped to be strict first. As if the body needs a strict rest from flour and other sugar. Keto comes with special antiinflammatory attributes that helped my asthma greatly, sputum just started coming up or just to be there but in the sense there is some curing going on. One meal a day i hardly ever liked to do. I want to eat when i am hungry! I just found more and more food i really liked that are low in carbs. Once fully fat adapted it is easier to cheat a little once in a while because the metabolism does not go back to sugar burning right away. So it worth to fully go into fat adaption. I often get some digestion problem in the adaption process but after it is much better than before.

I'm always sceptical. Haha, Hearings this makes me happy. Thanks Prof Noakes.

Is it possible instead of adding glucose that glycogenolysis could up regulate as it is supplied by demand if you had trained for this?
Really fun to have this

So refreshing to start the talk with how a scientists mind set should be. 😅 Im almost a scientist too
Fascinating 👍💖🇬🇧
Eliud Kipchoge and Kelvin Kiptim (RIP) didn’t set the records without carbs. Interesting prospects for the rest of us though.
Great content

alcohol doesn't spike insulin. But it does eventually give a fatty liver if you take enough.

Prof. Noakes do you know of Prof. Bart Kay?
Some people are better at processing carbs, but most are not so lucky
Does one false statement = "everything is false" or is that just another false statement?

'Everything here is false'..... no, no it isn't. Drinking water has nothing to do with Keto or Carb diet.
