Actually it's not who you know, but who knows you... You can know anyone you want, but if they dont have a reason to keep you close then what does it mean???
YOU WONT FIND IT IN OTHER PEOPLE, YOU GOTTA BE THE CONNECT. YOU SHOULD BE THE PERSON I WANT TO CONNECT WITH, NOT TRYING TO FIND IT IN SOMEONE ELSE LIKE A LEECH. YOU GOTTA HAVE SOMETHING TO OFFER TO OTHERS, TO GET FROM THEM IN THE OTHER HAND (LIKE A NET). IT ONLY SHOWS YOUR WEAK UNDERDOG PERSONALITY IS, THIS GUY ON THE VIDEO DID A LOT FOR HIS OWN FIRST, NOT ONLY CONNECTIONS.
lol Im not even european you ignorant peasant, Im american too, from brasil actually. Instead of reading in a motivational way you were frightened by my message. Other people wont make your life, you gotta do it for yout own. oknow im outta here, toodle to you bitches
You are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with. Surround yourself with people doing better than you, you will find yourself doing better. A rule of every success book. This stood out the most to me in this video, he surrounds himself amongst the right people. And he goes for what he wants.
I noticed he said “a good friend of mine” numerous times Believe what you want but it sounded to me like he was great at dropping names, how many were good friends of his is anybodies guess
Big fan of the Buscemi brand, but first time I've heard his background story. This guy is legit. Hard worker. Now I need to go back to work in order to buy a pair. ;)
Ok so I realize plenty of people watched this and thought..Wow ..so inspirational ..what a genius..hardworker..hustler..go getter...etc. Maybe its just me but I saw something completely different. All I see is someone who didnt finish college.. got his first big wallstreet job with no experience and admittedly was handed the job...lost said job...packed up and moved in with his friend the millionaire pro skater to sleep on his couch...was HANDED another job...by another friend....at a multi million dollar company.. quit that job...started a company whos biggest success came from ripping off a Nike shoe..which went out of business once they could no longer sell said shoe.. started his own company ..whos biggest product is ANOTHER RIP OFF..this time of a bag...Oh and also he "designed" a leather tie..a gold dog leash...and a piece of leather for douche bags to hold their 8$ latte in... Had he been raised in any other country in the world..he'd of starved long ago.. only in america ..land of nepotism and douche-baggery..Where a 42 year old man can use the word "dope" and dress like a 19 year old and no one thinks twice about it.
I'm not a sneaker head/fashion guy by any means at all but these stories are so offical and motivating to keep grinding. Noah your interview style is top notch , I really appreciate your thought provoking questions that even makes the interviewee really have to think. And the best part is alot of the people you interview i dont know who they are but after every interview i look them up. Keep them coming!!!!
I'm sure that small loan is in there along the way, but it wasn't a loan. When your rich friends and connections give you money free of charge it's not a loan. Pretty sure he used small contributions like that to create samples and initial inventory.
Awesome story, very well filmed and smooth edits. Also props to Mr. Callahan-bever for doing his homework and demonstrating a momentum-driven interview without detracting from the subject's limelight. A unique skill to be sure; great work to you and your team.
It's funny to me that someone who was so heavily influenced by hip hop does not show that hip hop diversity in the corporate office referring to the staff photo...but with that being said, as a designer myself I'm very proud of his personal success story of obstacles and necessary transitions to success. For that I salute him!
Great and inspiring story but at 11:58 when he say they walked into Nike and they immediately dropped the lawsuit if they were a bunch of black guys we all know how that would’ve turned out
zavier phillips I don’t see it that way. I think they entered the meeting humble and wore their love for the Nike brand on their sleeves. It wasn’t about, “Yo, let’s make some lame copies and get rich quick”
This guy is a good interviewer. I know few of the people that he interviews. I often don't care about the products they sell--flipping sneakers, for example. But I am regularly drawn in. Good job!
I always have to respect someone's hustle and ambition. this guy has incredible work ethic but the moment I heard he worked for Wall Street I already knew that half the battle was won. That within itself gives you access to tons of connections that most people don't have. Even when he failed, he still had the luxury of knowing people from The firm who can give him Capital if necessary.
Oh! Not to mention the private equity firm that got him that BAG! And his product started off sitting next to brands in boutiques like Rick Owens and Raf Simmons.
TheSolesOfTheWorld Which is why I went to the comments 2 Minutes & 30 Seconds in. 😒Oh you just so happen to get "influenced" by Hip Hop and managed to open your own successful shoe line? Get the Heck Out of Here!
From the views of this video I can tell people are tired of being sold overpriced luxury. Now the real question is how do we make people a fan of affordable quality clothing that expresses who they are as an individual.
Campbell Kason Unless it’s a niche’ brand with a unique aesthetic directly marketed to a certain demographic 😏 Huge corporations are reactionary. They’re slow to make adjustments. It can be done.
yowseph Dapier a wise saying goes it isn't usually the product sells rather than the story. Which is why the head of most of these high end companies are generally likeable people who can make anything sound good and simple.
With out knowing him, part of his story is luck yes! But most of his success, is his willing to take chances on himself. While bringing a humble and positive attitude, he genuinely seems like a good guy. Good for him for following his passions.
Wow! I mean fukkin wow. Some ppl will NEVER know how good they got it. Broker at 19? FOH! The Privilege is REAL! I know so many dope artists whom Never got a shot let alone like this guy. Wow
College dropout getting all those breaks... I'm glad he came clean with everything. Our people need to know how most of these guys made it to where they are... They were simply given opportunities. He took full advantage of his opportunities that were given to him.
I’m real conflicted about dudes journey. I’m happy for him in one sense ya know, salute to him for his blessings but... WTF all of those opportunities and the NIKE lawsuit going away ( yeah they found a loophole, but still)
What happened to this channel?? I follow you guys on twitter but you guys haven't posted since july. This is one of the few channels I always looked forward to daily.
Nice and inspiring interview, especially about how Gourmet handled the Nike situation. I was looking at the background and I was like "Is that the Dave Matthews Band cover?". Does anyone know who designed that artwork/cover??
This feels like an interview with someone who designed a viral-meme equivalent of a shoe that pop culture just happened to latch onto for a short time. Or interviewing a celebrity who's famous for some reason but nobody's really sure why.
Yeah retail on designer shoes are ridiculous but I have bought a pair of Prada for $120and some Alexander McQueen for $130. Cheaper than Nike AIR Force 1. You just gotta know where to look. And yes, they are real.
Idk why but it is so easy for u to tell someone what to do with their own money. Why don’t you shut the hell up and go get some money ? Maybe you could afford $1,000 pair of shoes instead of talking shit online 😄
Started his career by ripping people off on Wall Street and then continued by selling overpriced shoes- American success story. I'd rather hear about someone who makes the world a little better.
Cool dude 💯 I thought he would be an uptight European dude... but he’s humble and curses in interviews 😂 I definitely need a pair of Buscemi’s now I’ll support for $1000 I hope he’s in touch with donation organizations
Very inspiring and always respect the hustle. However, I’ve been noticing a trend with these streetwear/ culture “entrepreneurs”. I just wanna give a shout out to all those young black kids I grew up with in the late 80’s - early aughts that built the culture through their style , bboying, rapping, skating, art and mentality. Who didn’t have the privilege of just experiencing it but lived it without the rich uncles, business & Wall Street connects and had their ambitions stifled by their environments , socio- economic conditions or stolen by culture vultures. It’s been refreshing to see , this generation of young talented black youth starting to finally reap the benefits of the culture their predecessors built the foundation for. I wanna see more of them in this position, starting companies, building brands , owning their own IP and getting money. It’s time.
deaconddd they're white. As you notice. The ones that survived... killed off Dapper Dan around the same time. Now he's coming back but however through the help of Gucci.. we don't have capital . its hard man, no generational wealth.
We created and inspired the culture. We dictate what's cool and no shade to any one involved, but there should be more of us owning and receiving the benefits of what we created. The tide is turning though. We're on the come up.
Having connections is half the battle. Keeping them and using them correctly is the other half. I️ respect the hustle however way he did it, he made his brand and it is what it is. Do I️ like the shoe? No , does it matter ? No Lol Is he a culture vulture ? I️ guess , but considering that’s what he grew up around even I️n rich Long Island. Apparently that was the culture there for the kids and he just used what he knew. Obviously he’s privileged he’s from white rich Long Island as he mentioned. Should you model your life after him? Fuck no you’re not him. It’s a great story and we can all take something from it.
Amal Handley I think it's more than half the battle. That's why you always have somebody idiot nephew in a position of power. Yes he literally stole every idea and rebranded it, ”genius steals”. Familiar to the kith story. Puts light on the difference in the struggle
That's the chance no black 20 something gets ...no hate but we know this as blacks...we don't get that shit.....kind of chance...wtf..no experience never designed a damn thing...come on man...
Billy Lee, no I wasent I was talking to guy who's comment disappeared. I appreciate you asking vs assuming. Having said that, I saw your being president comment. And I believe the perception is wrong...see we don't want to champion a society that's blatantly reaping the benefits of our principal...fact is the shear gall and audacity to ignore the principal...then act as if the interest incurred was pure hard work. That's absurb on all levels. So if you can't comprehend, or choose not to comprehend that's on you and this dialogue will end after this maxim is posted.
It so funny how a culture from a maginalized and stigmatize people for century has managed to create something so power as hiphop that has contributed to the sucess of people from every race and yet this people can't claim full ownership or props for their genius.

Actually it's not who you know, but who knows you... You can know anyone you want, but if they dont have a reason to keep you close then what does it mean???
From someone that’s trying to start a brand. This is by far one of the most influential and motivational blueprints I’ve seen.
The moral of the story: Its not what you know its who you know.
This is probably the best content that Complex is producing right now.
I can't believe I watched a 27 min video on somebody I never heard of. Great story tho about your come up🔥🔥
same shit here
Carlos DeJesus hahaha me too. I think this a genuine story. I don't like listening to success stories because I think they are glorified.
Clearly you ain't into high end fashion sneakers then. Stick to Nike's bruv.
Loool for real mad inspirational 🙏🏽
Wow it was so interesting, I didn't even know it was 27 minuets! Thought it was 10 until I read your comment
This guy made friends with the right people. I need better connections 🤔
Jet lag WERD THE FUCK UP ME TOO

Yeah sounds like this fat Fuck just made it cause he's a rip off with wealthy friends.
I think exactly the same, and it so true especially the part...this can rised only in USA and maybe 2-3 countries at all
Only allowed to hit like once. Otherwise, I'd still be hitting it!
Its great being white in America !

Thank yooouuuuu. Career dickrider.

Netflix should make a movie about this guy making it big
If Eric Koston lets you sleep on his couch, you're already set with connections. This guy didn't have to try for any position he got
True
Stumbled on this... Great interviewer... Showing this to my sales staff Monday
Great and inspiring story but at 11:58 when he say they walked into Nike and they immediately dropped the lawsuit if they were a bunch of black guys we all know how that would’ve turned out
Reminds me of when dapper Dan got sued out of business. But the privilege worked in his favor it all ended with a handshake👀
zavier phillips
I don’t see it that way. I think they entered the meeting humble and wore their love for the Nike brand on their sleeves. It wasn’t about, “Yo, let’s make some lame copies and get rich quick”
DigitAllHD they obviously played their hand well. Not to say it wasn't smart but we all including them knew what they were doing lol

This guy seems so down to earth easy to talk to and obviously a killer in the sneaker game 💯❤
So basically have connections
Khaliq Email “it’s not what you know it’s who you know”
Learn to I make connections, keep connections and use them properly !
Literally the most useful tidbit of information I learned in HS. And from my PE teacher.
If you have nothing of value to offer, it doesn't matter one bit who you know. You have to be able to contribute first in order to make connections.
It’s not about what you know, it’s about who you know...

Yeah I peeped that too. He was gonna make it regardless because he had the capital and the eye for fashion from the jump
Oh! Not to mention the private equity firm that got him that BAG! And his product started off sitting next to brands in boutiques like Rick Owens and Raf Simmons.
TheSolesOfTheWorld luck played a big part as well.

Salute this real HUSTLER!
5:39 the black kid was in that movie Kids I think.
aaron i
His name is Harold Hunter. He passed away years ago. He is legendary in skate culture. Look him up. Long live Harold
DigitAllHD so he wasn’t in Kids?
aaron i
Yes, you’re correct. He was in kids. But he was so much more than that one movie.
Great interview. His overnight success took years...literally. Outstanding!
A good watch ! Not everyone with these contacts and background are making it out here. So props to him
respect... not many successful people admit the role luck plays ..luck is where opportunity and preparedness intersect!

A rich man once told me, "nobody cares about what shoes you are wearing except for broke people".
They need to get Virgil Abloth to do one of these
" all his " designs " are " unoriginal hypebeast bullshit " "

Very inspiring, Great video.
Really enjoyed this
Interview was outstanding! Buscemi is gangster!
Great interview, never heard of this guy, on my radar now...great series!
This feels like an interview with someone who designed a viral-meme equivalent of a shoe that pop culture just happened to latch onto for a short time. Or interviewing a celebrity who's famous for some reason but nobody's really sure why.
Wow! So inspirational, love this 👌🏼
Anyone who fails to question the sanity of someone paying $1,000 for a pair of sneakers needs a reality adjustment.
Are they available in 'widths'?
some people just have the money for it.. if you make 20k+ a month you can afford close to anything. Its still crazy tho
Yeah retail on designer shoes are ridiculous but I have bought a pair of Prada for $120and some Alexander McQueen for $130. Cheaper than Nike AIR Force 1. You just gotta know where to look. And yes, they are real.
bobo42024 where u shop?
Idk why but it is so easy for u to tell someone what to do with their own money. Why don’t you shut the hell up and go get some money ? Maybe you could afford $1,000 pair of shoes instead of talking shit online 😄
When you have millions of dollars like bieber, diddy, or jaylo, a grand is the equivalent of less than $100 to you
This was one of their best interviews
Started his career by ripping people off on Wall Street and then continued by selling overpriced shoes- American success story. I'd rather hear about someone who makes the world a little better.
What adidas are these? 13:01
Where do they make these products ?
far out. this video hit me like a bus. watching it at exactly 02:14am syd.
Cool dude 💯 I thought he would be an uptight European dude... but he’s humble and curses in interviews 😂 I definitely need a pair of Buscemi’s now I’ll support for $1000 I hope he’s in touch with donation organizations
Feels like he's giving you the blue print more then a interview I like it
This really inspires me, i am starting my own shoe line 100% handmade in Los angeles, hopefully one day i will be in the shoe
Little tip, make your shoe vegan. You wont regret it. All this high quality leather shit is quickly falling off
Real boxing Fan1 many shoes one the market are already vegan. Duh.
Thank you for this.
Connections connections connections !
Utterly amazing. Brilliant insights into a visionary. I'm coming to work for you Buscemi.
I remember all those shoes growing up I never knew he did all those.

GREAT interview
The Buscemis are the only shoe I would buy at that price point if I was loaded.
Had a pair of Gourmet in 08 . Bought them in the Uk . Was wondering what happened to the brand . Interesting interview
Very inspiring and always respect the hustle. However, I’ve been noticing a trend with these streetwear/ culture “entrepreneurs”. I have utterly no interest in the fashion scene and yet found this utterly compelling to watch !
so every product he makes is based off another brands? :/
WantTeaBag he's just copying completely
Yes

Gourmet the 35 Lite animal in green tiger and leopard print

I always wanted to comp a mystery pack but they closed up on me
Wow, super humble dude. I would buy this over other leather goods simply off of that.
