  • What happens when China, one of the world’s most fiercely competitive manufacturing countries, goes up against Tesla, an American super-company devoted to revolutionising the way we think about personal transportation?
    While the Chinese government is renowned for imposing strict import regulations on other countries and companies, its deal with Tesla hits just that little bit more different.

    Oops. Lean manufacturing is nothing to do with parts arriving at the right time - that is Just in TIme inventory management - 'Lean' means you can retool your machines for a batch size of one very quickly - if you sell only one pink Tesla you still make a profit on it because the cost to retool the paint line is very low. This typically means much lower tech tools - at least it did at Toyota.

    • @TheBirdRocker
      @TheBirdRocker 3 года назад +9

      That's a gross oversimplification of Lean. Lean is a comprehensive methodology which focuses on reducing waste in a system (overproduction, transportation, delays, inventory, etc.). Just-in-time is a prominent tool used to accomplish this, by striving for continuous flow (or one-piece flow) to minimize non-value added time through the process. Lean certainly has to do with parts arriving on time... it just also encompasses a plethora of other factors that all are aimed at accomplishing the same goal: no variation and no waste.

    • @ChatGPT1111

They had more quality issues per 100 vehicles sold than anyone else and it wasn’t even close. Consumer Reports redacted their endorsements of the Model 3 and Model S because of the astronomical number of quality issues. Has the EV industry solved the battery charging issues yet?

    • @auspiciouslywild
      @auspiciouslywild 3 года назад

      What do you mean by battery charging issues? There’s not much technical issues with it. Could be faster, sure, but the vehicles in the market right now is probably good enough. Charging isn’t considered a big problem here in Norway anymore, as the infrastructure is now widespread enough that there’s a solution for everyone. Even public street side parking in Oslo has had charging poles for many years now. The main challenge is that people need a change of mindset. You don’t want to stop at a a gas station and stand in front of the car while waiting for it to charge. You want charging stations in your supermarkets, and you let it charge while you go shop for groceries. Or while working out at he gym. Or visiting the hardware store. Etc etc. Even my small local supermarket has two 150kW chargers now. Not that I ever use it. Since we charge at home, we use public chargers maybe 10 times a year, on longer trips. We probably spend less time at public chargers than we did at gas stations with an ICE vehicle.
      It’s more of a political problem. For people renting apartments you need to encourage or even force owners to install plugs for overnight charging when renters request it. I’ve heard some US states have a some regulations aimed at that already. And you need municipal support for charging poles at public street side parking.

    • @anthonywalker6168
      @anthonywalker6168 3 года назад +1

      @@auspiciouslywild Absolutely, I agree with you on some points, however I can easy lift 700 km of range in two fuel cans and fill up in 3 minutes. Battery energy density is terrible in that regard, well over a ton and order of magnitude longer charging equivalent, at best. On a long trip, now I have to factor in charging and location of chargers. As an example, South Africa can barely keep the lights on, due to a corrupt ANC government and incompetence, now we are on board with forcing countries to electrify private transportation, under government mandates. I just don’t think it’s as practical as you say, and we will definitely miss ICE when they are gone. A better service to humanity would be to mass sterilize the grossly unproductive.

    • @auspiciouslywild
      @auspiciouslywild 3 года назад

      @@anthonywalker6168 You're right about the downsides of batteries. But the upsides makes up for it for the vast majority of people, if you have the right infrastructure. But the infrastructure is relatively simple and cheap fortunately. You're also right about the problems of stable electricity in developing nations. But you forget that fuel supply is also a huge issue for them. Some of them have terrible quality of fuel. I remember a guy from Jorden saying BEVs would be great for them because the fuel they have is ruining their car engines. Fact is, with BEVs you can just have your own solar panels and charge it anywhere. You don't even have to be reliant on the grid, making it far less dependent on government infrastructure than fuel. "A better service to humanity would be to mass sterilize the grossly unproductive." - WTF, that got really dark really quickly. Birth rates isn't really a problem anymore. It's as low as is reasonable in most countries, and falling quickly everywhere else. Population growth is mostly due to increased life span. So if you're going to be an utter disgusting asshole about your proposed solutions, it's more reasonable to suggest euthanasia of senior citizens. Otherwise you're punishing the young for the sins of the parents. But even that won't actually solve the problems of CO2 emissions from ICEs. It'll only postpone the problems by a few years.
