I just wonder if the traditional army salute will be brought back.

      What do you mean?

Yeah, palm facing forward. That is the Canadian way, inherited from the British. Our salute today is copied from the yanks.

Frank Alviar Actually, our salute is the Royal Navy, or Royal Canadian Navy salute, and not copied from the Yanks. In 68 they amalgamated all three services into one, changed all the rank insignia to be one standard (naval) and changed the salute to one standard (naval). There was a million other changes but the point is - Army, RCN and RCAF all use naval salutes these days, not yankee ones! I suspect that the Yanks also got their salute from the RN way back when.

I agree. Time to drop the unification RCN salute as least as far as the army and the RCAF are concerned. The Harper government did so much to bring back the old army traditions but fell short when they lost power. Yes indeed the army should return to the palm up pr unification salute. Bloggs you are right as to the history of the salute. Nothing to do with the US. The Navy had always saluted this way and should continue. But the Army and RCAF should go back to the palm up salute. Just a note for those who do not know what we are talking about. The RCMP and the British army still use the old salute. Our army and air force should bring it back as well.

What the name of the general salute they play at 19:25?

I've heard that it's the Ric-A-Dam-Doo general salute, but I haven't found any information to back that up. I've been searching for the sheet music for a long time.

Sloppy drill by 1960's standards... They're fatter too, and sluggish ! Did basic training with them in 1963, tough regiment, started with 53 guys, ended up with 20. I'm 70 now, still reaping the good health the regiment put in me way back when !! See on You Tube : Salute To The Canadian Army - The Big Picture

yet, the newer gen would whip them in a real war, by tech or tactical standards, they have them beat.

Bending their elbows too much. But these days drill can't be taught like it used to or the the instructor will get fired for harassment

Get over it Boomer. The parade square cold-war Auschwitz emaciated army of the 60s is never coming back. They were not combat ready and barely capable of suppressing 3rd world clowns in UN Operations let alone fighting a real enemy. Go back to dreamland. Bye.
