they call it pocket watching My thing is make your fortune but then people were like no the world is not fair they make it impossible they make it unfair well I hate to be the party pooper but nothing they're actually just practicing warfare on another level you know they're actually breaking down barriers and taking shit without firing a shot it's the same thing that's been done throughout history you know there's no people on this planet except for maybe the Aborigines and Australia that hasn't used some type of warfare against another group of people to take their shit people act like the darlings of the Americas where the American Indians or what we call now native Americans shit those motherfuckers were taking each other's shit you know so the shit doesn't phase me I'm a descendant of slavery but there's always been slavery there's always been as long as there have been men walking this earth figured out a way to exploit another group for their resources and their labor is a resource but let's not go off on tangents here let's talk about our modern civilization what are the things that people seem to forget about when we sit around and we whine and yes I whine too I'm not immune to the great affliction called whining bitching moaning but if you look around these great cities that we live in it was industry that built these places I'm sorry to say for all of the snowflakes that think that this shit just sprang forth from the earth it did not it was industrialist that decided to set up shop usually close to a river because at one time that was the mode of transportation for goods I'm in Ohio actually Cincinnati Cincinnati was an industrial Mecca because the number one the Ohio River number two because of the Erie canal so everything here originally was because of goods coming in and going out industry I should have just said you know this city was actually built on I like the joke and say beer and sausage but there's a lot of industry here this is actually a blue collar city it's so wild compared to where I grew up at which is Columbus how there are still factories and residential neighborhoods here you actually go through Cincinnati and you have an appreciation for where the fucking wealth comes from and I'm not talking about the wealth in people's bank accounts their pockets I'm talking about the wealth of the urban society here everything here was built because of industry if you take the industry away the civilization goes away people came here and drove from the country during the industrial revolution actually Cincinnati's kind of a famous place for runaway slaves runaway slaves could come to Cincinnati and get fucking jobs you know so that goes back to you want your share of what motherfuckers always want their share of somebody else's shit but I guess that's just a human thing you want what you did not earn and then you whine and say you were not giving chance they don't pass chances out you cannot go to the chance tree and pick the chance fruit That's not the way it works you have to have the audacity you have to be audacious I won't go into my history but I work at a company I couldn't even believe I have a job here working in aerospace My track record from the early part of my life is fucked up you know but instead of whining about shit and all of the stuff that I have been involved in I went out and had the audacity to at one time start two different businesses when I was told that I wouldn't allowed to do that because of my track record maintain a full-time job and I know that it's not that easy for some I do realize that it breaks my heart to know that there are people that no matter how hard they try they can't catch a break I see some of these people on a daily basis and I hear people talk shit about them like they're just standing around congregating not doing shit what some people don't know is some of these people have been out putting in applications it's not that easy for some and others it is you know it's sometimes the luck of the draw but that still doesn't mean that you get your share of someone else's shit That's a mentality that we need to break we need to get out of that I want my share of your shit you know so I guess I'm saying that shit just makes no sense at all That's like if you work and you start a small business and then you got neighborhood people telling you they want your shit they want a share of your shit they want their share of what you've earned what you've made well that's the same thing with these billionaire industrialists you know it turned my stomach during COVID when Richard Branson was talking about going to shelter in place in his multi-million dollar yacht a lot of people took issue with that and I was like what the fuck he's a billionaire this is one of his homes it's his goddamn yacht what's the big deal and I realize that people were just mad because they don't have a billion dollars plus they don't have a yacht they don't have a state people are mad at Jeff bezos and Elon musk because their hobbies are playing in space but you got to realize that these are fucking multi-billionaires they do fucking multi billionaire shit their hobby is not playing cards it's not building a muscle car in their garage it's not breeding show dogs in the backyard That's what people that make $50,000 a year dude people who make $100,000 a year do people who have billions they have billion-dollar fucking hobbies like I guess what I'm saying is people get a goddamn grip your portion your portion of what you want your portion of somebody else's shit wake the fuck up or do what so many others have done before and create a mob and go take some shit That's something else that humans are really good for and I think I touched on that like earlier anyway sorry for this being so long-winded but I feel like instead of talking about shit be about shit you ain't never going to talk a billionaire out his shit these motherfuckers sit around and they're laughing at people talking about coming for their shit

No way Still spell AmeriKKKa with the triple K Word up to Spice 1 and O'Shea And any MC peeping what I go through Real rap, my last line's so true Rest in peace to Pimp C and Camu, too We do it for you
BUT, the lyrics too. "They can never take the energy inside you were born with...knowing that understand you can never be poor you were born rich" Metaphysical. You gotta check out the music video for "EL-P - Deep Space 9mm" The visual metaphors going on in it are crazy.
Oh, yeah. I saw that right after I posted and I was thinking you do good research. If you really like El-P, also check out Company Flow, that was his first start I believe.
El-P is one of the best in the game, up there with Aesop Rock, Busdriver, and Wu-Tang. Killer Mike is soo fucking fire on this track, but the two of them working together is one of the best collabs we've gotten in a long time.
2023 December 7th, neva heard this song eva in my life til today. Maybe just where I am currently in life butden all I can do is cry listening to these kings spit truth in such a way!
Yah i know, agreed. Although i was sort of paying close Ttention to the part where Mike says (not gonna repeat right warnin): my professor emeritus says we been cursed by being brought to the Amerikus, how you raise a single family with no parents... Etc... Still spell amerikkka with the triple k". Ahh I love that last line, triple Kkk, so defiant, like "klu klux klan" is who those American slave ship owners were really. Anyways, side track there sorry, point is Mike is the one in the main frame and I observed closely and he looked serious in the one clip. But ha interesting how this music video is ironic to the lyrics, it reminds me A LOT OF TIM AND ERIC and also that love able doctor dude, seems like they were literally imitating it. Some user on here mentioned cryptic in regards to nyc white guys lyrics, well maybe there is something "cryptic" about the music video itself too. .
"They can never take the energy inside you were born with/Knowing that, understand you could never be poor/ You already won the war, you were born rich". That's more than just a rhyme. It's a beautiful way to see at life and struggle. RTJ it's something else
@@sadboysolari4891 point taken. can't fail to see him as more though. And i don't think he'd repent. He makes others repent lol. ofc along that line Doom is doom already. and he fits that too.
Possibly the best hip hop I've ever heard, this was a real work of art. Incredibly thoughtful, well-written narrative, just amazing, I hope you guys get huge.
They already are, their music isn't mainstream but they're recognised by all the biggest music blogs and industry veterans & artists, RTJ2 was named best album of the year on a lot of blogs. :)
My favorite Christmas song. Killer Mike is without a doubt the greatest personality in the music industry, and does anybody drop sicker beats than El-P?
I honestly wish I could meet you two in person... I am only 25, but I have been having an extremely hard time in life recently. Both of you... the music you produce, it honestly has been helping me hold my mind m u together.. helping me keep my mind as one, of that makes sense. I wish I could see you in person.... take this as you will, but your music El-P and Killer Mike has helped me keep my thoughts more focused, listening to your music helps me focus on the good times I just need to say, thank you, both of you. Your music helped me get through things that I might not have been able to other wise. You likely won’t see this message, but I needed to say what I did regardless
They make a beautiful duo. Their lyrical symbiosis makes for neat dynamic. One of my faves, right here... I am by no means any kind of performer, however, I will leave that to those that do what they do. Giving credit where it is due is all. I also quite identify with Mike's part here too... Love the love, and empathy for one another!!! :)
It's that time of the year to slap this. Still remember the rainy cold night this dropped. Listened to it at 11pm freezing my ass off pushing carts, time flies.
In about 3 minutes it'll be Christmas Day here in NZ. It'll also be my 28th birthday. I stumbled across this little gem of a tune a while back and have been saving it for the occasion. Cheers, RTJ. Love ya work
El-p's verse on this is one of the hardest and most powerful verses I've ever heard. Bless these two they help me more than anything when I'm at my lowest.
god i love this song and the video, the secret handshake gets me every time, as well as the cheesy smiles in the christmas photo parts. real hip hop still lives
Chi Acolyte Last I knew the love of money was the root of all evil. Mega churches, millionaire televangelists and churches where I live vie for money and wealthy patronage for personal gain, untaxed, and use that money to further their political agendas. The point here is that your deity doesn't care if you're rich or poor. Your church might.

EL has a genius verse on this. And Mike's a giant like always. Tracks like this are so important for the genre and an amazing look and critique on the status in the country in general.

El-P's verse in this song is my pick for the most important verse of this decade
It's amazing. I get chills listening to it after not hearing it for a while.
Agreed G. His drops MAJOR 💎 💎 💎
Killer Mike's verse is wayyy better
One of the most important verses of all time... Next to Tupacs last verse on Me Against The World and a few others. Truly incredible
Bruv, heard this and played it like 50 times. Played crown and jeopardy 49 times. Rtj 2 sickest shite ever. Days not over-going for 100.
Killer Mike has one of the hardest entrances to this song of all time.
Totally underrated right!?

He's one funky homosapien.
***** interesting point of view... i think they help each other equally. Theyre very different.
El-P's aren't cryptic, but they are profound.

Cincinnati's kind of a famous place for runaway slaves runaway slaves could come to Cincinnati and get fucking jobs you know so that goes back to you want your share of what motherfuckers always want their share of somebody else's shit but I guess that's just a human thing you want what you did not earn and then you whine and say you were not giving chance they don't pass chances out you cannot go to the chance tree and pick the chance fruit That's not the way it works you have to have the audacity you have to be audacious I won't go into my history but I work at a company I couldn't even believe I have a job here working in aerospace My track record from the early part of my life is fucked up you know but instead of whining about shit and all of the stuff that I have been involved in I went out and had the audacity to at one time start two different businesses when I was told that I wouldn't allowed to do that because of my track record maintain a full-time job and I know that it's not that easy for some I do realize that it breaks my heart to know that there are people that no matter how hard they try they can't catch a break I see some of these people on a daily basis and I hear people talk shit about them like they're just standing around congregating not doing shit what some people don't know is some of these people have been out putting in applications it's not that easy for some and others it is you know it's sometimes the luck of the draw but that still doesn't mean that you get your share of someone else's shit That's a mentality that we need to break we need to get out of that I want my share of your shit you know so I guess I'm saying that shit just makes no sense at all That's like if you work and you start a small business and then you got neighborhood people telling you they want your shit they want a share of your shit they want their share of what you've earned what you've made well that's the same thing with these billionaire industrialists you know it turned my stomach during COVID when Richard Branson was talking about going to shelter in place in his multi-million dollar yacht a lot of people took issue with that and I was like what the fuck he's a billionaire this is one of his homes it's his goddamn yacht what's the big deal and I realize that people were just mad because they don't have a billion dollars plus they don't have a yacht they don't have a state people are mad at Jeff bezos and Elon musk because their hobbies are playing in space but you got to realize that these are fucking multi-billionaires they do fucking multi billionaire shit their hobby is not playing cards it's not building a muscle car in their garage it's not breeding show dogs in the backyard That's what people that make $50,000 a year dude people who make $100,000 a year do people who have billions they have billion-dollar fucking hobbies like I guess what I'm saying is people get a goddamn grip your portion your portion of what you want your portion of somebody else's shit wake the fuck up or do what so many others have done before and create a mob and go take some shit That's something else that humans are really good for and I think I touched on that like earlier anyway sorry for this being so long-winded but I feel like instead of talking about shit be about shit you ain't never going to talk a billionaire out his shit these motherfuckers sit around and they're laughing at people talking about coming for their shit
2021. Still holding strong. Merry Christmas everyone.

Back here again for my Christmas morning tradition. Have a great day, jewel runners!
So I just discovered this group. I am overwhelmed. This is layered mastery.
Spread the good word sir :D
Check out Company Flow. El-p's original group !!
The cold vein may be my most prized piece of vinyl. No longer have a turntable, but I kept that album.

Frank Walline *beat not best
The killer always comes in with savage bars. Oh my Darling is another great example.
TIPTOE ON THE TRACK LIKE A BALLERINA
Frank Walline it kills me every time. It inspired me to make a ring out of my abusive ex boyfriends tooth. I managed to knock out one. I escaped with a broken jaw, 8 missing teeth that are being rebuilt, and a bitchin new ring.

I can’t believe El-P’s verse in this song and why it took me until now to listen to it... I needed that verse. Thank you Run the Jewels
How the Fuuuuuuuuuuck is Run the Jewels still so underground...everyone go tell your friends that run the jewels is a thing...it exists and it is fucking sweet
No. Underground rules.
Skatemaster3000 FUCK THAT SHIT. DON'T YOU WANT RUN THE JEWELS TO BE WELL KNOWN
Sonic the Hedgehunk nope. Only a few folks will understand why...
Skatemaster3000 I understand, but i just want them to get really popular, not be mainstream. They'll still be with Mass Appeal so they won't change
Skatemaster3000 Tell us why and we'll all understand.
I guarantee you the guys in run the jewels would like more people to listen.
[Verse 1: El-P]
That was me in BK on Atlantic
Never looked both ways, ran in traffic
Pops went away but I stayed, vagrant
Placed where the steel and cement became nature
Love what you did with the place, it looks gorgeous
Cityscape where the blood of good men courses
And the dreamers are bull trapped in porcelain
Take a knee to the gods and get horse shit
Wanna live for the thrill? They'll arrange it
Got a bevy of imps to spit hatred
Shit'll get in your head and cause panic
Have you desperately begging to get famous
Get your dignity dirty and left orphaned
Sanity on the fringe of distorted
Who are they to just take shit and hoard it?
Who am I that I don't get my portion?
The most impressionable minds
Get molested and informed by manipulating forces
Don't fret little man, don't cry
They can never take the energy inside you were born with
Knowing that, understand you could never be poor
You already won the war, you were born rich
You can only take the energy you had
Going back to the realm or the home where your lord is
Whoever, whatever that lord is
Couldn't give a fuck if you ever made fortunes
Fuck anyone ever tryin' to run that punk shit
Send 'em to the flames where the orcs live
Them and the lost minds thinking they're smarter than us
Don't understand love's importance
And we can weaponize that, bring 'em back to the truth
Where the ashes and dust got formed in
[Verse 2: Killer Mike + El-P]
The beat breaks and your teeth break
Keep your canines embedded in my knuckles as a keepsake
It would seem your veneers just mere souvenirs
Falling out your mouth and on to the landscape
Me and El-P do the secret handshake
Then I pummel punch a pumpkin head punk in his pimple face
'Til he's punch drunk 'cause he's sweet as a pound cake
(Ain't he pussy, Mike?) Yeah, El, I'll say
Into the wild, wild style ghetto child running wild
Where the lions and the owls stay
The powers that be even offered up reprieves
Told us they ain't take us out if we bow to our knees
But they can give that to the kings and the queens
And the worshipers of idols and followers of things
'Cause I would rather be in the jungle with the savages
It's kill or be killed, and I'm working with the averages
My professor emeritus
Say we been cursed being brought to the AmeriKKKas
How you raise a whole human single parent
No marriages, no sense of heritage?
Planned Parenthood helping plan miscarriages
But I'm lucky mommy already had a narrative
Product of a teenage love, my arrogance
Derives from the pride in the job my parents did
Named Mike, I was told it was godlike
Even danced with the devil, came out alright
Okay, honor y'all? No way
Still spell AmeriKKKa with the triple K
Word up to Spice 1 and O'Shea
And any MC peeping what I go through
Real rap, my last line's so true
Rest in peace to Pimp C and Camu, too
We do it for you
THANX
"My arrogance derives from the pride in the job my parents did"

Man.. El-P's verse always slowly builds up to goosebumps when I listen to this song.
A masterpiece.
You guys are the true artists, and shamans of our times.
Wordsmiths.
El P murdered his verse
they both did
In a good or bad way?
@@cheeblerelf8223 In a good way.
Agree! Maybe my favorite rap verse of all time.

How does this song only have 8 million views. So under rated.
Because people.
Not everything is about views. fuck sake.

it does now lol
8 million views is a whole lot mate
What a wonderful Christmas present.
Thanks for an amazing 2 years Jamie and Mike. Can't wait to see what you guys do in the future.
Better than a sweater
Maybe my favourite rap song of the decade.
It isn't often you come by rap this hard with a solid message. El-P and Mike just crush every track they touch and still keep surprising.
Killer Mike and El-P are real and great
Merry Christmas 2020 to everyone coming back to the best Xmas song. Cheers
dude the best sound in the fucking world is hearing hip hop use trance beats. actual advancements on music. ACTUAL
i was hoping you would see this edgar.
BUT, the lyrics too.
"They can never take the energy inside you were born with...knowing that understand you can never be poor you were born rich" Metaphysical.
You gotta check out the music video for "EL-P - Deep Space 9mm"
The visual metaphors going on in it are crazy.
Edgar Mirth
yea i commented on that one. its my second favorite.
odiumimbues
whats weird is i just noticed you commented on this a year ago. but i found LP on my own with some other album. minds think alike i guess.
This beat is so awesome! Some many layers to it and has a really dope and bittersweet feel to it

Edit: Everyday is Christmas i listen to RTJ 🙂
Out now 😉
Whaddya think??
I have shed many tears to this song. Something really emotional about it.
I have also shed tears to it as well... And I never cry lol. Strong stuff
I agree with you homie! This always gets me going.
Cause it's gospel.
This song has a lot of tough love ❤️😭😭😭❤️❤️❤️💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾😞😞😞😞😞
Interesting that they went with a comical video for a song with rather genuine and serious lyrics.
Some user on here mentioned cryptic in regards to nyc white guys lyrics, well maybe there is something "cryptic" about the music video itself too. .
+Natalia Galaxy That's a reference to Ice Cubes Amerikkkas Most Wanted album (word up to Spice 1 and Oshea).
Christmas, the consumer holiday masquerading as holy and Scrooge, traditionally the white rich man, is played by a black dude. This video is genius.
+GodTheBear I didn't even peep it from that perspective. You just put me on game, dawg. Bless Up
Thank you, Cant believe that didnt cross there mind first...
damn i slept on run the jewels..this shit is serious
"They can never take the energy inside you were born with/Knowing that, understand you could never be poor/

That's more than just a rhyme. It's a beautiful way to see at life and struggle.

Merry Christmas and a happy new year 👊👊🎄
9 years later these verses still bang so hard
Mike's opening bars are some of the hardest ever written imo
@@schuylersousa3399it might be one of his best verses ever honestly
As every Christmas approaches I play this song again and again. Dont think Ill ever get tired of it!
if MF Doom is the grinch, Killer Mike is krampus.
I dunno, clearly he's Scrooge in this video, and I think it fits. (before the change)
@@sadboysolari4891 point taken. can't fail to see him as more though. And i don't think he'd repent. He makes others repent lol. ofc along that line Doom is doom already. and he fits that too.
Hey, I know it's been one year, but I think it's spelled MF DOOM. You know, all caps.
This is one of EL-P's best verses and there's a LOT to choose from. THE GOAT
Merry Christmas to all who return to this every Christmas
RTJ2 - best rap album of 2014.
Those lines at 1:13 - 1:36 give me the fucking goosebumps.
Well this song is actually from their first album, not RTJ2, but I agree, this song and RTJ2 are fucking incredible.
When killer mike says his first lines....genius
It's that time of year again, welcome back.
Listening on Christmas day. 2023.
I lost it at secret handshake

My favorite Christmas song. Killer Mike is without a doubt the greatest personality in the music industry, and does anybody drop sicker beats than El-P?
Matt Levick yes and no.
Kno from CunninLynguists is one the best producers ever IMO
Aesop is dope on the boards too

I honestly wish I could meet you two in person... I am only 25, but I have been having an extremely hard time in life recently.
Both of you... the music you produce, it honestly has been helping me hold my mind m u together.. helping me keep my mind as one, of that makes sense. I wish I could see you in person.... take this as you will, but your music El-P and Killer Mike has helped me keep my thoughts more focused, listening to your music helps me focus on the good times
I just need to say, thank you, both of you. Your music helped me get through things that I might not have been able to other wise.
You likely won’t see this message, but I needed to say what I did regardless
I second this comment, Keep ya head up!!!
Keep ya head up Chief, were all behind you.
🖤🖤🖤
Just think of it like this you get to spend time with them every time they are on the track...keep ya head up young blood
King, you dropped this. 👑

El-p's verse on this is one of the hardest and most powerful verses I've ever heard. Bless these two they help me more than anything when I'm at my lowest.
El's opening verse really hits different. This man speaks only the truth.

"Whoever, whatever that Lord is couldn't give a fuck if you ever made fortunes." Listen up churches!

This song still hitting hard as ever
RTJ are seriously underrated just because they have a message that would actually uplift people and show them just how messed up the system is...
