It really is tragic in so many ways. She's dead, just an image in his mind he can't get rid of because they trauma bonded. She's an abused child who probably ran away lots, and hoped someone would take her away from her parents for a long time. He's just a desperate young Japanese adult who probably is struggling financially, and never wanted to be a kidnapper for ransom. It was bitter star crossed fate that she and him would be so far apart in age, and that he would snatch her up of all kids. The part where they're at the phone booth hits really hard for me. 0:41-1:00 shows so much while saying so little. That looks to be the memory of the time he called her parents for the ransom, and she correctly predicts that they wouldn't pay a cent for her, he doesn't believe her at first until he hears it from her parents themselves and far more than the fact that he isn't getting any money he's shocked and hurt on behalf of her that they care so little about her. As a survivor of having adults in my childhood, adolescence, and young adult years who also didn't value me I relate to the girl so much it hurts.
My personal theory: . From the news report and its title: "Girl Disappears in Chinatown" (0:26) and the missing poster (1:37), it would be assumed that this is about a kidnapping, but I think that that is just an accidental coverup, and what the media are saying happened to the girl. Even the girl knows that the kidnapping didn't happen, which is why she tears down the missing poster (1:42). . The real story is that the man was drinking one late night ("Let's erase the late-night drunken frenzy" (1:53)), and decided to drive home. The girl was walking across a cross walk when she had the walk signal ("But I never cross a red light late at night, even when there's no car" (1:16)). The man ran the red light, tried to brake ("First time stepping on the brakes" (2:02)), but because of his drunkenness, hit the girl and killed her. Panicking, he threw her into a river ("Water burial had been the last resort" (2:01)), which is why the police and family can't find her and assume she's kidnapped. . The girl following him around in the video, like someone else said, is guilt following him and eating him alive until he finally succumbs to it. The phone scene is him (anonymously) dialing the girl's family, freaking out, and guilt tearing him away from telling them the truth.
No, she let herself get kidnapped by the guy, it's in the little supplementary comic. You can see her smile at the end of it. I think the implication is that she didn't feel loved at home. Guess she was counting on the guy getting attached to her and dying with her, as both of them were unneeded, but he was surprised and left her alone; the car hit her and then the guy couldn't stand the guilt from it and died too.
This girl is a spirit, a representation of guilt. A bright, burning emotion that lives inside this man's heart. That's why she smiles when he suffers. But I also think this spirit of guilt has taken the appearance of the real girl. She died due to some car accident, probably 'cause he was driving on a red light/or she was his kidnapped victim, who escaped him and died running across a road on a red light That's why the color of girl is red. At first the real girl was hospitalized. Then on the phone, he found out that she died. Guilt became even stronger, she pulled the man towards her, and he was helpless to resist. In the description of the song it's written "ストックホルム症候群" which can be translated to a "Stockholm Syndrome". But the real hostage here is the men. He is a hostage to his Guilt (Red-haired girl). She (guilt) doesn't leave him alone. Even when he tries to push her away, she follows. In the end he "falls in love" with the guilt = becomes consumed by her. The man can't force himself to run away from the Spirit, or forget the Real girl. That's why he chooses the only way out (at least he thinks so). The Spirit of guilt smiles, when she sees his body in the closet, because he has been thinking that the real girl would like him to die too.
This song is so good, I've been looping it nonstop. heres a personal theory from what I got visually and from the lyrics. . Apparently from (might be a little off since im not fluent in Japanese), he forgot to lock the car door while he was doing something in chinatown. That caused the child to get kidnapped as seen in 0:26 from the missing news report. He started blaming himself for it immensely, doing everything he can to try and find her to the point he thinks that the time crying about it could be better spent finding her. The words spoken by the little girl are around the lines of "im always with you, dont leave this world." (0:18) EDIT: THIS TRANSLATION IS WRONG I MISHEARD IT. I translated the words spoken by her more accurately in one of my replies. . (0:42) He called the police to see if they have an update on her, only to be broken down by the news that was brought to him. He finally got the official letter most like saying that she is gone (1:11). This is when he went on complete isolation 24/7 as he wanted to end himself but didnt go through with it because he didnt have enough courage to. He decided to live with this whilst being completely apologetic. In the middle of the song while hes saying "I cant live without you", we can even hear her saying "dont give up" (1:31) . By 1:52, we're on the final stretch! At this point, we see him going through all his emotions before the conclusion. We see him being apologetic as she says "it's alright." (2:11). He starts to accept her death thinking this was for the best, but suddenly his mind became clear as day and finally said, "youre not her" (2:31). Her existence as a ghost was all mental. She was just a subconscious for him to keep living on. A subconscious that believed that she'll be happy if he stayed alive. A figure that gave him false words of affirmation until the end. . By the end, he was also gone. With that, he believes the child he took care of is finally happy that he repaid for his mistake. we see the girl smiling at the end as she saw that he was at peace, may I repeat, the girl that is made from his own beliefs. And like from her words from the beginning, she'll always be with him. . The colour red can be associated with strength and happiness, hence why I believe the reason the entire environment is grayscaled is to emphasize the importance of the child to him. welp if you have any other possible idea on how this went, let me know, but honestly this is the best storyline explanation i can come up with. Edit: The Stolkholm theory below explained by "Someone" in the replies makes more sense/true to the song than this theory! We discussed more about it in the replies. check it out :)
This theory is very insightful as I didnt have the slightest idea of the song lmao. After reading your theory, I have a better grasp of the story and have come up with another one which is very different from yours, also with the help of another commenter. TLDR: man wishes to redeem himself from the car accident by kidnapping and "caring" a little girl who is the doppelganger of the girl victim in the accident. "ストックホルム症候群" (Stockholm Syndrome) written in the description confused me because I cant think of its correlation with the song. Then I realized the kidnapper looks extremely similar to the man. I think it is intentional as it would be very confusing if they did that unintentionally. @ひんやりとおる san (one of the japanese commenters) suggested that the man kidnapped the little girl to redeem himself. In the beginning of the MV, the face of the girl became clearer as the mv goes on until 0:16 which is similar to a driver's vision. The lyric at around 1:15 "でも俺車いない深夜の赤信号守るしな" can be roughly translated as "but even during midnight when there are no cars I dont run a red light" suggesting the man may have ran a red light once and got into an accident, and the victim is the red haired girl. Attempting to redeem himself, he kidnapped the doppelganger of the victim girl. Not sure about his intentions but maybe is to raise her properly. I can kind of explain with an equation: 0(havent kill) -1(killed)+1(raised)=0 (wont feel guilty) dont know if it makes sense lol. Anyway, the girl is kidnapped but then falls in love. Reason being 1. at 1:30 "君は僕がいないと生きられないって言う” meaning "you said you cannot live without me" 2. red can be interpreted as love, which explain the "Stockholm Syndrome" written in the description. The man however knows that the girl he kidnapped is not the same girl victim as hinted at 2:29 "君じゃない 君じゃない” which can be roughly translated as "you are not her you are not her". The repetition reflects that he knows that very well and clearly. Also he said "僕は君と生きられないよ” (1:33) meaning "I cannot live with you" Feeling extremely guilty for the car accident and kidnapping a little girl, he took his life. The girl smiles at the end when she saw the corpse of the man, probably indicating the girl is yandere (not sure if i m using the right term). She is happy because the man is with her forever physically. He wont go anywhere. If you read all of that, thank you very much for doing so. Gotta go back and write my papers
@@Ruben-gm4zv i have the same theory but i think that he kidnapped the girl only , he haven't done a traffic accident and my thought is that he lost a small girl in his family look as the same as the red head girl but after he have kidnapped that new red head girl he realised that it change nothing , he realized that the girl he kidnapped is not the same one they just look like each other they're not the same so after he realized that he can't change nothing so he finally found a way out and that's dead My theory might be supper wrong but i still have question in my mind that why did he try to call the police BUT ANY WAY : you have a really good theory thanks man now i can't get out my head
@@Ruben-gm4zv Oh, I completely grazed over the description! I also thought of the theory just like yours where he kidnapped another child just to make up for any of his wrongdoings. The only things that left me with loose threads was mainly the fact that the girl was very affectionate, leaving me with the conclusion that theres a connection between him and the child. Hearing the connection to Stockholm Syndrome, the lyrics makes a lot more sense now and made a full story that I can somewhat. Relating and in addition to the kidnapping theory, it could mean that the phone call at 0:42 was him trying to call the authorities so he could return her, but never did at the end thinking he could redeem himself from the past. There was also a few parts of the lyrics that immediately told me that an accident had happen in the very beginning that started the depression of the man we see. (Everything following are all rough translations) • (0:36) "もうこれから惰性で繰り返す朝靄" = "It's definitely because of the mist and the inertia" • (0:39) Soon after that we hear "振り払ってはやくはやく" = "Shake it off, hurry up, hurry up." 201" = "5 o'clock in the morning, I woke up for the 201th time." • (1:30) "君は僕がいないと生きられないって言うけど僕は君と生きられないよ" = "Although you said you can't live without me, I can't live with you." Throughout the story, we can see that the two main subjects are completely dependent on each other. We can even hear the little girl also singing along at 1:06 going "ignore all the ringing of your calls" as she tries to comfort the man. The entire chorus 1:51 tells the entire story where one night he was driving drunk, and because of the fog and his intoxication, he didn't clearly see the child, pressed the brakes late, and had hit them. He ultimately decides to throw and bury the dead body under a body of water. Then proceeds to say that hitting the brakes had never been so hard to press before. 201th days after the incident, the kidnapping incident happened, and it follows suit to your comment from then on. I honestly agree with the kidnapping theory more since it ties in more fluidly with the last chorus of the song, but couldn't properly stand by it due to the affection and the very slim chances of seeing a doppleganger of a child from a past. Those are now solved since the affection came from the Stockholm Syndrome, and the doppleganger part was miniscule as it was never said that it had to be a look-a-like. Aside from that, this theory fits way more alongside the Japanese title of the song "Hurry into the night" where it all started one dark night. Thank you for your input, it made me understand the song better.
Here's what the girl in pink says (0:17) nee naite naite watashi mo irete > "hey, I'll cry with you." Seikaida sono hate hanasanaide (naide naide) > "You were right, don't doubt yourself" Hatashi mo irete (irete irete) > "Promise me that" (0:33) [echo] lya ni naru shi > "I hate it" (0:42) ai wa machigattenakya henda >"Love has to be wrong or it's weird" koware chatte kara ga honbanda (ah ah ah) > "It's only when it's broken that it really matters" (1:31) Akiramenai > "I wont give up" [This is towards herself im guessing? if this was towards the guy, it would have been akiramenaide but im not entire sure. (1:36) same as 0:17 just without the "hatashi mo irete" (2:09) [very subtle in the bg. she was crying/pleading in these lines] nee naite naite na > "Are you still crying?" hatashi mo irete > "Promise me that..." Ty proofles, some guy that was in these comments posted this but did it in a chain, so I just copied and pasted it so people don't have to go digging looking for what she says lol
Everything about this is amazing, but the part that hit me most was the man hiding away in a cluttered closet. Something that I myself have done when depression gripped me. Thank you for making this MV. And sending love and prayers to those who are currently fighting depression themselves. You're not alone
He didn't hide. He killed himself in that closet. Which explains the rope. I understand the sentiment, but it's kinda so much worse. It's not a happy ending.
if this song ended up in your recommended, please give suisoh's other songs a listen! all songs from afterwards are so good tbh i dont think you'll be disappointed
From what I caught with my ears and looking at 声がでかい..'s comment, here are the girl's whispers: (0:17) "Please include me." 私も入れて (other meaning: don't ignore me / count me in too) "Don't give out the right answer." (0:42) "It would be weird if love wasn't a mistake." 愛は間違ってなきゃ変だ "It's only after it's broken that it finally matters."
Here is what I personally think the MV is about: This man, at breaking point, kidnapped the girl, brought her to his apartment till stockholm syndrome kicks in that they both look at the TV news report about a missing girl. The nicer the girl is towards the man, the more the man cant bear the guilt within him. When the man finally can't handle the guilt, he tried contacting the girl's parents to bring her back to them, but shockingly to him, their parents dont care about their daughter at all, and refuses to even take her back in. The girl laughs it off, knowing this will happen, and just grabs his hands and drag him back into their apartment. The man knows that he can't keep repeating days like this because he is an adult, but still tried to escape reality by hiding inside the closet, hoping that night will fall sooner (in japan, the more someone wants to approach night, it is assumed that they want to commit suicide, thats why YOASOBI's racing into the night ends with suicide), he even tried justifying himself as a law-abiding citizen via the lyrics "I wouldnt cross the road during red light, even if its midnight with no cars at all" so that he can escape from the fact that he kidnapped the girl, because "a law-abiding citizen such as himself would never do such a thing" The Girl says "I cant live without you" but the man thought to himself "I cant bear living with you", referring to his inner guilt. His first ever suicide attempt in the closet stopped because the girl comforted him, allowing him to hold down his brakes. Then the girl proposed for them to commit suicide together by walking on the crossroads at a red light, dying from car crash. The man finally reaches his another breaking point (probably had a sudden urge to commit suicide), he doesn't know what is right or wrong anymore, but he knows that the girl doesnt deserve to die, so he rejects the girl, rushes back into his apartment, and committed suicide alone. The girl goes into the man's apartment, opened the closet, sees his body, and smiled from relief that the man is still the man she knows.
This song just perfectly represent what sadness is like, it's a bitter-sweet, paralyzing calmness that takes over your whole soul slowly until you can't feel anything. This is the only song I've ever encountered that actually made me cry, it touches and stings slowly into my heart. Thank you for this💓

This song hits me really heavily as someone who’s lost a lot of loved ones. It shows grief so well no matter if it’s a child or not, they’re like that in your mind, so bright and so undeserving.
She couldn't get him to die with her but then he had to die with her memory etched onto his mind's eye. The idea of reverse Stockholm Syndrome is genius.
This song deserves more recognition, I hope more people get this in their recommended just like I did. The tone and lyrics just fill me with melancholy

Found this song by accident last time and kept replaying it so many times. It's really so good!! Even though the lyrics are sad, somehow I find comfort in the song, especially when I'm down. Thank you for making such a beautiful piece, and the way you sang it is very heartfelt! ❤
I've been catching myself singing many songs from Afterwards for some after each single was released. The MV for this track wasn't published by the time the album released so I've only caught it more recently. You can feel the emotion in the vocals, this one's a heavy one to sing, but yet I cannot help myself
No matter what story this music video or song is trying to express, even if we can't comprehend it, this song has definitely reached into our hearts and told us a story. I love this so much💗
The ending was very sad...I enjoy listening to this especially the little girl's whispers and the singer's voice is perfect I can feel the emotion:').I'm glad i found it!
This song is beautiful, the story is astonishing I loved every single part of it, it brought me shivers down my spine at one point. Truly an amazing song

This is when he went on complete isolation 24/7 as he wanted to end himself but didnt go through with it because he didnt have enough courage to. He decided to live with this whilst being completely apologetic. In the middle of the song while hes saying "I cant live without you", we can even hear her saying "dont give up" (1:31)
.
We discussed more about it in the replies. check it out :)
thanks man
This theory is very insightful as I didnt have the slightest idea of the song lmao.
@@Ruben-gm4zv i have the same theory but i think that he kidnapped the girl only , he haven't done a traffic accident and my thought is that he lost a small girl in his family look as the same as the red head girl but after he have kidnapped that new red head girl he realised that it change nothing , he realized that the girl he kidnapped is not the same one they just look like each other they're not the same so after he realized that he can't change nothing so he finally found a way out and that's dead
My theory might be supper wrong but i still have question in my mind that why did he try to call the police
BUT ANY WAY :
you have a really good theory thanks man now i can't get out my head
(Everything following are all rough translations)
It's definitely because of the mist and the inertia"
• (0:39) Soon after that we hear "振り払ってはやくはやく" = "Shake it off, hurry up, hurry up."
201" = "5 o'clock in the morning, I woke up for the 201th time."
Although you said you can't live without me, I can't live with you."
Throughout the story, we can see that the two main subjects are completely dependent on each other.
@@geraniumzee But dont u think the yandere part stands out quite a lot? I m not sure of the purpose of adding that element to the story.

why does the spotify release of the song not have the pink girl's voice lines?

Everything about this is amazing, but the part that hit me most was the man hiding away in a cluttered closet. Something that I myself have done when depression gripped me. Thank you for making this MV.

The title in Japanese is "Hurry towards the night" (はやく夜へ)
while the title in English is "Suicide"
Here is what I personally think the MV is about:
This man, at breaking point, kidnapped the girl, brought her to his apartment till stockholm syndrome kicks in that they both look at the TV news report about a missing girl.
The man knows that he can't keep repeating days like this because he is an adult, but still tried to escape reality by hiding inside the closet, hoping that night will fall sooner (in japan, the more someone wants to approach night, it is assumed that they want to commit suicide, thats why YOASOBI's racing into the night ends with suicide), he even tried justifying himself as a law-abiding citizen via the lyrics "I wouldnt cross the road during red light, even if its midnight with no cars at all" so that he can escape from the fact that he kidnapped the girl, because "a law-abiding citizen such as himself would never do such a thing"
The Girl says "I cant live without you" but the man thought to himself "I cant bear living with you", referring to his inner guilt.
The sad thing is she probably will join him soon too (the looping shot of her looking at a car headlight in the middle of the street at the start...)
forgot how much this song helped me cope when i was in a really bad place mentally ... it's such a banger

This is just so good.I'm looping again and again and listening to this.Such a masterpiece.Hope this got more recongnization✨🥺
No matter what story this music video or song is trying to express, even if we can't comprehend it, this song has definitely reached into our hearts and told us a story. I love this so much💗
This one of the most powerful MV's I've seen
RUclips never fails to recommend me such amazing songs.
i really love this vibe of song, i love how it also affects my feelings and get sad as well
The ending was very sad...I enjoy listening to this especially the little girl's whispers and the singer's voice is perfect I can feel the emotion:').I'm glad i found it!
This song is beautiful, the story is astonishing I loved every single part of it, it brought me shivers down my spine at one point. Truly an amazing song
