I would also like to shoutout Jonny Giger for helping me to understand technical better with foot placement and whatnot. Also a much more practical shoutout to Jason PArk, who just tries to have fun like I do, but is much better at it! Kyro and Lastra teach me to take it easy and keep going. Giger teaches me to never stop hoping and trying to push way past my abilities. Anderson and Park make crazy and innovative things look so fun and easy, that I have the courage to just be creative myself.
I'm a 36 year old beginner, and I simply bought this board because I adore Andy, his skill, his mindset, his attitude and that he always wears a hat. Also the board is freaking sexy! Cheers
i wonder what kind of tools disliked this video...i am 50 years old and i have seen alot in skateboarding but Andy is something special :) thank you Andy for the video and to be honest i only need the wheels and then i will have the same setup as yours :)
Andy, thank you for this gem. This was one of the most incredible things I’ve ever watched. I don’t skateboard, in fact I ride bmx. The thought, science, technicality, spirituality & history you put into not just your board but your set up is incredible. So much respect and thank you so much for this. This is right up there with listening to Rodney Mullen talk about the evolution of his art. Loved it- so much respect.
Andy is so cute, he’s such a humble guy. I wish I could meet him someday. Just watching him set up his board and listening to his stories is like a therapy for me.
I just ordered the Flight deck last night!! I'm very anxious! Ordered trucks, hardware, wheels and the Anderson grip tape. I'm super stoked to get back on a board in 26 years.
It's awesome that hes like so super stoked to skate for the companies hes sponsored by. That's like a dream life to love the company you work for that much
I could listen to Andy speak for days. He has a such a Beautful Mind and Soul. I only came across him last week when I was watching the Skateboarding from the Olympic Games and have been checking out all of his RUclips Clips. He is such a Genuine and Caring Person. And then you get to his actual Skateboarding his Skills are out of this world. Wuld have to be the Most Creative Skater Ever... Absolutely Love This Guy... Keep It Up Andy You are a Star !!!
41:40 i feel like it's more about pressure that wheel imposes on the ground. Wider wheel = less pressure/set surface. So the narrower wheel with the same hardness will bite the surface more thus will grip more.
This sounds more plausible. This is how car tires work, especially studded winter ones, which are generally more narrow to have more pressure per area for better traction.
In 1985 my dad bought me a pink skull & sword with blue Gull Wing trucks and fluorescent green bones street wheels. I was living in Belgium at the time and the only kid in school that skated. I was hooked and never looked back. Andy brought me back to those days just watching this video. Thank you for that.
I just watched this while I did my physics homework about waves and when andy said that different wheels and decks have a different wavelength my mind was blown because it is so true
"I'm just gonna go stream of consciousness on this" hahaha. exactly why I love this dude! I am buying one! Can't believe it hasn't been done before! super smart. Dude we always drew on our Grip tape.
I have andy’s deck and the only downsides to it is that the tail’s square profile doesn’t stay for long. I know he says its the best possible wear down but i love the square! Also, the v cut/rail cuts mean theres only 2 spots on the board that actually touch the ground in primo, and those spots take a huge beating and wears down quickly/chips/delaminates. as opposed to where a normal board the entire side takes the impact, not just those 2 spots. I had the 8.4375 and it wore down to an 8.25. In a month and a half
@@tylerjkim_ well i was def doing primos on the crusty street. And it did razor faster bc when you do caspers you’re razor tailing both the top and bottom of the kicks when its 5 ply

Yep Donald Cassel who used to sponsor us at Circle Skates created Bridge Bolts, when it was just the pin. You got it right. And they knocked off his Kingpin too. That's why he created Trucks. I still have a pair he gave me. Wow! you are spot on Powell Peralta History too.
they have clutches and different speeds on a drill. i predrill my hole with a measured drill bit that i wrap tape around so i dont go in too far. i start the screw in the middle and work my way out. i also add thin double sided sticky tape so they stay stuck to the board.
When putting in your rail screws here’s a tip or at least what we used to do back in the day. Once your rail is aligned use your sticker or whatever to hold rail in place. Place screw into rail hole, hold screwdriver on screw head, and grab your truck and use it as a hammer to tap the end of the screwdriver creating like a pilot hole. This gets the screw started into the deck w/out having to use a ton of body weight effort to start screw. Just a quick tap w/ truck on end of screwdriver to get screw started. It’ll save your screwdriver palm/hand etc. you can also use a hammer if you have one available. We used to also use a cookie sheet and place rails on non-stick cookie sheets to warm them up in oven to then mold them or shape them. But then we found that lying them flat inside aloud for leaning into lip tricks for curbs etc like Andy was talking about. I don’t like running rails anymore. But we used to in the late 80’s. Till Z-Strips came out w/ thin plastic strips you taped all over boards. Anyway just a tip.
I'd take the rails even further and use double sided tape to mount along with the screws. they will never rattle and the screws wont torque loose from gravity when landing hard
45:40 - if bearings are hard to insert into boones or spitfires, simply use some spray auto detail car wax with a q-tip on the inside of the wheel - wipe off with some tissue - and it'll slide right in - been using this method since the 90's - it also allows the bearings to pop out when your ready to do so - I sk8 bones spf wheels with bronson raws, and this method makes bearing cleaning quite easy

what he's saying about how larger wheels slide easier is true but it doesn't mean they slide better. just because as you turn more of the wheel is subsequently sliding might possibly mean that it may be easier to get into a slide, however, there will still be a larger contact patch that is sliding on the ground therefore producing more friction which will make you lose speed faster.
Aye speaking of trucks, like gullwings, remember Zrollers trucks!?. Is that what they were called. Always thought those were siic. You didn't need any wax. The trucks had a metal tube that the axil bolt was in, that could roll on da curve instead of straight grinding.
Amazing video. Why don't regular skateboards use bearing spacers? on longboards you have to have them so you can fully crank down the axle nut and not have slop when you powerslide.
