I will make a video about how I avoid wheel-bite, totally didn't get to that in my 20 minute video 😅
Please do 🙏🏼 riding ace af1’s with riser pads which I don’t like to do because of taking some gnarly slams due to wheel bite lol. 56mm wheels
No wheel bite without risers and a 56 ? , Doesn’t seem possible without tighter trucks , so yeah where’s the wheel bite vid?
Zack thank you, I purchased a new transition deck and my truck width was not wide enough, it was within a quarter of an inch but it just felt weird. I’ll be matching my next set of trucks to the deck. I hated to give up on it, I’m inspired now to set it up correctly
Shaka!
Do you have video on grip tape for circular or oval icon? How to get the shape of logo?
Actually just finished setting up a new board a few minutes ago lol. Got a shaped tactics board at 8.6 (biggest ever for me) some indy 159s and 56mm formula fours. Can't wait to hit the park later.
Stop buying tactics!! They pushes out many local skate shops! Theyre not skater ownes anymore! If you have a better option please try!
My best year on vert was '79, so it shouldn't be a shock that I'm looking to laminate my own 31" X 10.75" shape again for all around riding. Looks like I keep my SixTraks and either the Street Cubes I already have or a new set of Mini Cubes or upgrade to Indy 169's and maybe Dogtown K9 wheels.
That rollout revert was KILLER!!!
Good video Zack! Great insight for setting up a transition board. Keep it up!
Great video Zack! Good music during the skate sesh and I like that you show your bails. It helps to learn how to bail when things go South.
Using a similar setup and is perfect for me - age 56 yrs
Deck: Width: 9" - Wheel Base: 15" - Length: 32,5"
Indy: 169
Wheels: OJ - 56mm 101A
Bearings: Bronson G2
Griptape: MOB
Dope! Thx brotha
My main set up for any kind of skating is an Anti Hero 9 x 33.25 with a wheelbase of 15”, Ace 55s, and 60mm Spits. The perfect setup for me being a size 13 and also being over 6 feet tall.
I have that same setup! I have a 9.3 grosso deck.
Kudos Zack I did the same thing last week swapped out everything fresh excluding my trucks 👍🤙🛹
Man you are awesome at skateboarding, tearing up that bowl! 👌🏼🤟🏻
That’s a nice setup! Just got my first pair of Aces AF1 and pretty amazed how well they turn. Riding now 8.65 Polar Oski shaped deck, Ace 44, 56mm conical fulls and pig wheel rails.
Inspired to learn to skate transition the more I see your great videos.😊🤙
Proper setup!!
YES! so Sick.
I skate that same board and besides the size just the contours really hug the feet in so many positions, just feels awesome.
I started skating transition last year, I've got a 10" setup, much more stable but heavier. I too use Shorty's hardware, Jessup and Mob grip.
My setup is a 8.625 with bones reds and 60mm wheels with 1/2 risers I just like how the risers feel personally, bones hard bushings (the black ones) and indy trucks
As always, i'm happy to see your stuff. I built my transition machine on Theeve trucks. They are great, and when you see the price of them, you will love them. I have also tried Decathlon decks. I know it is a big sport shop, but their skateboard departament is ruled by old skaters from the north of france. Quality stuff if you are on budget! Ok, back to video.
Thanks for another calming video :D
I read on slapmagzine that Decathlon's boards are made by dwindle
Everyone putting their transition setups so imma put my street setup and see if y’all like it. Mob grip, antihero 8.5, bones reds, bones 52mm, and Indys. Love it so much!
The breaking in footy was golden👌
hi zack i love your videos! you should start linking the products you use in the description!
Do grip tape in 3 parts with gaps where your axles are if you want a floating board but like the reference points
I only skate 8.5 and over shaped decks, 8.8 - 9.3 is my sweet spot. Currently got a 9.1 Madness, slightly squared tail and shovel nose, Ace trucks, redz bearings, spitfire F1 and bones rails. Very similar setup to this one. Only real trouble I have with it is heelflips...but I'll just use someone else's popsicle for it.
How do you like the Madness board? Haven't tried one yet.
@@ZackDowdy super comfy, the concave is enough to be stable and do flick tricks but not so much it's totally noticeable. They're a tiny bit on the heavier side but has a solid pop and lasts even with major razortail. I love the graphics and unique shapes they put out, probably my 2nd fave shaped board company after the local SmokeBeerSkateboards from Aus.
Definitely worth a try but also not for everyone (just like everything in life).
I found that for me, wheelbase is more important than width when it comes to transition. I can ride a 7.75 if it has a nice 15inch wheel base (not that i do, i skate a 9 lol) idk thats just me though
Edit: just caught the tale end of the video lol
Hi Zack, thnx for the setup video! I was wondering how narrow the board is ‘at its narrowest’. In your Polar setup I was surprised about the difference. Cheers
I took inspiration for my miniramp/bowl setup from curren caples. I’m more of a street skater though, so I don’t skate big transition.
9“ egg shape, flat/medium concave (concave makes a huge difference in stability), short wheelbase like 14“ so it is pretty surfy, 159 Indys and 54mm Spitfire F4 classics. Sometimes I switch to 55mm OG classics, when I feel like I need a wider contact patch, for example when I try bigger bowls.
Shoe size 9.5 and 5‘11 feet
try conical full shape 56mm+or og classics...or radial full. contact patch for me is everything as a former SFW manderson Stan
Dude you should get the krooked zigzagger ive skated a few now and other shaped boards in between and alway go back its just so much fun for any situation
You didn’t go back to why you didn’t put risers on! I was very curious since aces are relatively low and 56 is a big wheel!
Awesome setup. I just set up one similar. Threw on my ace af1s on my new birdcage winkowski deck with some 56mm slimeball wheels. Only had one session on it but it’s so nice
After this session I'm wanting to try the af1!
@@ZackDowdy I really like them! I’ve gone back and forth between the af1s and my indys and I think the last session I had ended the debate for me I like the aces better
sick board!! we skate the same setup for transition i guess :))
I literally picked this deck up 2 weeks ago. Thunder trucks and Powell Peralta wheels
Polar are good decks. If you want to understand an additional wrinkle in what makes a choice transition deck try a Santa Cruz deck with Cruz missile or cruz control concave. The concave flare that holds in your front foot in some cases is excessive- the Santa Cruz concaves flatten that flare and in some people its preferable.
I haven't ridden aces yet...just started a new job...I just might get one of those baker circle jerks shaped boards and some ace 60s for it...my Toy Templeton cat is old and delaminated from trunk heat etc I do like 8.75-8.8 myself for my park/transition/slappy rig. had 6.1 ventures on it with 56mm 101a satori wheels and thanks to the "shape" I didn't wheelbite much...53mm on a 8.38 and I needed risers with 6.1's probably bc of the overhang/bite yet I can go up to 56mm or possibly larger w.o risers on some 8.8 shapes. I did the same thing board box 2x80$ bakers and some broken in trucks 6.1 and 159s...but new wheels satori 101a and 99a ghetto child 53mm both in a conical full shape. there really is nothing better
👍🏾 Mash!
Hey Zack thanks for the videos man, im curious what you think of spacers and speed washers? Im new to skating and unsure if its better to use them or no?
I don't use spacers inside bearings, but I use bearing washers between nut and wheels!
look for that 15" wheelbase Krooked team board, this's massive
Learning to do 50-50 stalls what size will do you think is best I am currently using 60s
What will bees if you had an opportunity to pick from for writing for what would be best
Like those setup vids. Maybe I missed it but you forgot to mention why you don't put risers.
I didn't include it because things were getting long at 20 minutes but I plan to make a video specifically about avoiding wheel bite.
I’ve been pushing Polar decks with wheel wells cause I like to ride loose trucks and don’t like riser pads. This combo helps me avoid wheel bite. What do you do to avoid wheel bite on your setup?
I need to make a video about wheel bite! But it still happens, sometimes I'll wax the wheel wells if a specific trick or spot is giving me a lot of wheel bite.
Would this krooked deck fit 159 Indys perfectly?
I'm coming from street , do you recommend this set up for me ? Since i usually sk8 on a 7.65-7.75. not use to such a big board. But I want to get the best of transition, an learn the proper way i would say. Get the best out of learning transition. Thanks for such great videos.
8.25 - 8.5 would be a big upgrade but make it worth having two setups.
@@ZackDowdy will doo, thanks. Ill keep my street set up an build a transition set up, best suited. 🤘
I got a scram size 9.8 or bigger it’s got a Triangle nose
Indy stage 4 151
Spitfire f4 60mm classic shape
Have you tried creature? If not there's lots of ramp skating. I feel the nose and tail is steep. I'm trying to just skate mellower shapes. Skating a krooked(as cruiser)and anti hero. Gotta Play like slayer though haha (if you made a creature review try out vid.) I would wanna see how u skate it trying out like the Andy Anderson shape. In all honesty I feel it's better to stick to like the same board basically even tho I'd wanna try different stuff. So yeah try creature. Guaranteed like smash
I like a real wide deck. Heroin decks 9.5 and up.
bones rails are lighter than other brands, also putting on rail i use a thin double sided masking tape i pick up at walmart called t rex tape
I have that same deck. The size and shape are the shit.
top l planche!
My transition setup is a 9.75 shaped heroin dead dave board, indy 215's, 53mm orb wheels, and I needa get a drill to do the hardware for rails
big board little wheels..
11" wide Pig circa '78......Yachts R' Us' FTW
Yacht life!
I use MOB clear🙉
What size were the trucks? I missed that. Ace classic 55s?
Yeah, 55!
Use strong gorilla tape to keep rails down
Wide boards are too for street as long as the wb isn’t too long. I’m up to skating and 8.75 on street. I grew up skating in wide boards
Wide decks with shorter wheelbases are my sweet spot since I ride ventures
Hey, you never said why you don’t set riser pads on it.
Is that a Chris Miller?
Rib bones don't slide good!
Not sticking to nfg?
I'm still rocking the NFG wheels on my Polar setup! It's kinda wild I have multiple completes now.
Cutting on a new board hurts my heart ..! 😅
I think height and leg length have just as big a factor in board size than your shoe size... short guy with stubby legs here lol 8.25 is the biggest I can go 😊 🤷♂️
