    Hi everyone, just to clarify these are definitely a genuine set of USA Tremonti pickups despite the bridge pickup being covered. I’ve inspected the base plates which are stamped and labeled correctly as per PRS factory standards, and they’ve also been verified by the PRS guy at Andertons Music. These were a custom order direct from PRS. Cheers!

      I got my answer back from PRS on April 23, 2021 at 9:04 a.m. ... Here is what they said: Paul Reed Smith Customer Service: "The Tremonti treble pickup is only available 'uncovered', so it seems someone has the incorrect information." You might want to question your seller on this... I told you I was 100% sure of these facts. I have followed the engineering process of the Pups since the beginning... They are installed in all my guitars, and I know the history. If you would like, I will share the email with you from PRS.

      @@MichaelDaviesMusic Dude I've checked back through the owner chain and they were a custom order from PRS. The baseplates are stamped properly and stickered just like other core PRS pickups I've owned/seen - an opinion shared by my co-workers at Andertons who are hardcore PRS experts as well and talking to their team all the time. I know you can't buy the Tremonti's as standard with a nickel bridge, yes (which I suspect the customer service team were talking about), but these were custom ordered to go in a Wood Library guitar. My rep at PRS hasn't told me it's weird or flagged it up. I've owned a core Tremonti and recognise the way they sound, feel and play. So whilst I appreciate your opinion as a fan of these pickups I have every reason to believe firmly these are legit, USA Tremonti's. They're very rare, but real non the less.

    • @MichaelDaviesMusic
      @MichaelDaviesMusic 3 года назад +2

      You could be right, but you will never get the Tremonti sound with a covered pickup... Thats Physics 101... also, I would love to see you take a photo of the back side of the pickup and post it on IG or twitter. Also, while you are at it... Take a digital multimeter and run impedance readings on it; see what K-ohms its reading.

    • @charliecoe136
      @charliecoe136  3 года назад +1

      @@MichaelDaviesMusic I don't own a multi-meter but here's a photo for you. There are so many factors in a guitar signal from string gauge, to amp, to cables, to pedal, to pick, to most importantly the player. This demo is through a Marshall profile on a kemper, I'm not trying to sound like Mark, it's a direct comparison of the pickups to a seymour duncan set so that someone can hear the differences. If you want to hear the 'Tremonti sound' in Mark's prefered context go listen to his records.
      They're a set of pickups that people can get and interpret in their own way, not just because they want to sound like Mark, maybe they just like the style of the pickup. A nickel cover is not the most important thing here, and whilst I appreciate and enjoy discussions surround gear I've made my case as to the authenticity of these pickups so will not be commenting any further.

      @@charliecoe136 I get it.... and I can plainly see these are stamped with the Tremonti treble... Just please understand that when there is a modification as big as a covered pickup vs. a non covered pickup... There will be a variance in sound... Your right, this must have been a one off of this PUP... and coming from a dude that has the Tremonti treble in all my guitars but 1, you understand the difference in brightness between covered and uncovered... I have followed the whole journey with Mark and Paul coming up with a signature pickup and there were many revisions until they found the correct one for Mark... You may have received one of those revisions.... Not to say that it may be very close to the final product.. because it may very well just be... and I get it with all the variables... I understand that... I have been through various people to figure this all out and noone wants to take the responsibility for this journey we are on. Not PRS, not Sweetwater... however Sweetwater changed there ad for the covered Tremonti and PRS denied ever producing a covered retail version...

    Excellent review! I've been looking for something like this since getting my Tremonti a few days ago, I love these pickups. I've used JB/Jazz in many different guitars and while I can't prove it the JBs from the 80s sounded different to me. I plan to pull my JB/Jazz set in an LP and replace it with the Tremonti, they just seem to clean up better to my ears. While we may not agree on the outcome, I appreciate your video, great work I found it very informative!

I spoke with someone that said, though not advertised that way, there are like 3 different versions of the Tremonti pickups.

      Back when I played regularly with friends I had a (cheap ass) 'dimebucker,' one of the other guys had a JB. The dime sounded like ass, thin, tinny, and fizzy, no body or warmth to it at all. The JB though was full and round and alive, everything he was playing cut through like a laser. Kept having to turn up just to hear myself which resulted in him turning up too. The JB is god man, JB all the way, lol.

    I mentioned on down the comments.
    I have 2 core tremonti guitars, one with the covered treble pickup. They were available many years ago in very limited numbers.
    Now I havnt swapped the pickup between the same guitar,
    All I can say is the uncovered tremonti pickup feels a bit brighter and more articulate.
    I actually prefer the covered set.
    Slightly rolled off on the top end and big power chords just feel a bit more squishy if that makes sense.
    I love them both.
    I have uncovered tremonti trebles in both my mccarty too. Tried many pick ups and keep going back to the tremonti sets. Just great pick ups.

    Great video Charlie! The Tremonti pickups in your video sound WAY better than the JB/Jazz to me so that goes to show you how individual pickup preference is. Even clean, the Tremonti pickups (especially neck) seem to have great midrange punch and the JB/Jazz sound hollow and flat by comparison. Perhaps being in the room brings out that "sparkle" that you mentioned but the lack of midrange punch really kills the overall tone as far as I'm concerned. @@Alphaaussiegaming The JB is a terrific pickup. The JB and the Custom SH-5 ceramic are my two favorite pickups of all time. For the neck the Jazz or 59 work great. If I tried the Tremonti in person I might lean more in favor of the JB for that ax. But in this demo it is a great sounding, ultra hot pickup. Generally, I prefer lower output, more controllable pickups. The JB are Custom are medium to high output, definetly not vintage by amy means. They both handle high gain every well. My experience with mahogany set necks is that if you load them with a low mid ceramic they are going to get woofy and muddy. The JB and Custom, because they lean into the high mid spectrum, balance out very well with a midwood ax like a PRS or LP. I was playing a PRS not too long ago with a JB/Jazz combo and it sounded absolutely out of this world. It was an Allender model which came with EMGs which I didn't like. With the JB/Jazz set it was perfect. I tried out a lot of DiMarzios in that ax as well, but once again the JB proved itself the king of high output humbuckers.

      @@hemordroidnz7908 simply put: the SE pickup is an entry level pick up (cheap), at the moment you can get PRS pickups from €139 from THOMAN, €159 TERMONTI pickup, Seymour Duncan similarly priced, if you get them for €30 or €40 then yeah its an ok pickup, but they don't stack up against the real pickups, don't put them into a very good guitar they are just not worth it and although the newer version is a better pickup it doesn't compare to a PRS off the shelf pickup.

    That is not a Tremonti bridge pickup, Tremonti pickups are uncovered.

      Hi Mike, this set would have been special ordered from PRS, I’ve had a look on the base plates and they are indeed genuine USA tremonti pickups. They’ve also been verified by the PRS guy at Andertons Music, so they are the genuine thing!

      HAHAHA, you've obviously not heard of something called a custom order. But that's alright I'm sure you've got the internet to vouch all of your facts rather than contacting the company directly for info. Enjoy your day boomer.

      @@benelmer422 I have talked to Mark as well as his producer Michael Baskette and we have been over this as to why he worked with Paul on an open ceramic pickup versus covered... Maybe it is a custom covered pickup but it is not Mark and Pauls original design... I This pickups are in all my single cuts. This so called boomer knows the answers... I will ask Mark and find out what he thinks... and report back... ~Signed "The Boomer" btw (Im not really a boomer) much younger than that... that was my parents generation.

      @@MichaelDaviesMusic FYI I'm about to order a set from a large PRS dealer (possibly the largest) and currently they can only get the bridge Tremonti in a covered version from PRS. I've seen the uncovered like in my Tremonti on Reverb though so I may get the neck from them and the bridge from Reverb.
