Great reaction ! This song gives me the same feelings of freedom as the song BORN TO BE WILD by Steppenwolf and SWEET HITCH HIKER by CCR both about riding a BIKE ! and freedom
To me...his "next time , we'll get it right" ....refers to new beginnings, or learning from past mistakes, just like tomorrow is the first day of the rest of your life and you can dream another big dream without being trapped by the past.....it's an uplifting song...Thank you for doing this !!
Love everything Bob Seger sings. He and his band are the best. Bob is from Michigan and is now retired. His concerts were legendary and he is missed. Thank you for this. 👏👏🥰🇨🇦
Bob Seger is 79 years old.He started touring at 16. You need to listen to “Turn the Page” and “Night Moves” He has toured the world but home is Michigan. He was born there, married there and raised his children there.
I had a friend who invited me to sit with him in the firm's 5th row seats for a Pistons game. We had to move past a couple of people to get to our seats. When the beer man came by, we ordered two beers and as they were passed down the row to us I turned and realized that it was Bob Seger handing me my beer! My friend and I remained relatively cool, but once Seger was recognized, people swarmed him and he had to leave. I watch a lot of reaction videos and I am so thrilled to see him get the respect he is due.
“Next time we’ll get it right…” When you get it wrong, keep going bc, “it’s not the cough that carries you off. It’s the coffin, they carry you off in”
Excellent reaction and analysis he is a great songwriter and singer there are so many more songs to check out Hollywood Nights Turn the page Night moves
The term "freedom" means different things to different people depending on what they want in life and choices that they want to make. Freedom for some could mean hopping on a motorcycle and going for a ride through the mountains at any given point in their life. At that particular moment they are free. We all need to feel like we are "free" in our life. I feel this song articulates that. At this moment in his life, Bob needed freedom.
The line in this song that knocked me over when I first heard it and does so even now is: I too am lost; I feel double crossed and I'm tired of what's wrong and what's right. To me I guess, this is what makes the idea of just taking off so tempting.
There is also a subtext meaning of breaking free from the image we create of "self." The line "I was tired of my own voice" speaks to the role we define for ourselves and the challenge of finding the truth of who we are as an individual. His song "Turn the Page" highlights the struggle of the road, and the image that the audience has come to expect.
"Next time" could men many things....Maybe it's the thought that there is always a better way to live your life...and next time you'll find that better way. You just keep searching for what is right.
Seger didn't have kids until around the age of 40 with his current wife. He walked away from his career to have those kids and didn't return to music professionally until the kids were grown. Seger had the freedom but chose to have the happiness that that freedom didn't really give him. He has said that he wouldn't have done it any other way. Freedom can be great but also can be an empty burden. I think you have take the freedom to choose to be free from everything or to be happy and fulfilled.
Have you heard of Leonard Cohen? Are you familiar? If not, you may want to have a dig into his catalog. I’m thinking it may be right up your alley. Leonard Cohen is everything. Brilliant & broken.
You're kind of hitting Seger backwards in some respect. Both these songs are from the midlife perspective and as always he captures some of the universal themes beautifully. Some of his earlier songs deal more with more youthful, but in some ways similar, themes. "Ramblin Man", Travelin Man", and the ultimate classic "Night Moves".
Bob Seger lives close to me here in Michigan. He is our local, national treasure!
Love Bob and his band. They put on a great concert
Welcome to the beautiful rabbit hole called Bob Seger. What a wonderful reaction. Thank you, sir.

Dr. Nik, other great stories can be found in Seger's songs Main Street & Night Moves.
Against the Wind by Bob is a tremendous song. Bob can write and sing any kind of song except a bad one.
This has always been my favorite videos by them. Turn the Page and Night Moves are 2 more you should check out
Turn the Page > Bob's signature song

Riding a motorcycle gives a sense of freedom and awareness of nature.
Do Turn the Page next...the Live version...

Nice reaction Dr Nic.
With that line about getting it right, maybe he was referring to that which he was escaping from???

Enjoyed your reaction to "Roll Me Away" by Bob Seger. I'll recommend a rockin' love song from Bob S. + Silver Bullet Band "Even Now".
Against the wind is a great song, kind of the same theme as like a rock
