My Girl came out in 1964 and was written by Smokey Robinson. The Temptations were signed by Motown, the best R&B label at the time and many years to come. David Ruffin was the lead on this song, but after only 4 years, he was kicked out of the group due to his drug use and multiple disagreements with the direction of the group. His voice was golden, but his life was a complete mess. He was known to beat up his girlfriend's, cocaine was his best friend and he would constantly want the group to be called David Ruffin and The Temptations. He basically was incredibly hard to deal with. He never would have the same fame after he left the group and continued to abuse drugs. In 1991, he would overdose on crack cocaine and that was the end of the golden voice. He was penniless when he died and Michael Jackson is the one that paid for his funeral.
Oh, yeah babe! Motown! What an eye-opening journey this will be. Supremes, Diana Ross, Marvin Gaye, The Jackson Five, Michael McDonald (was also with the Doobies), Stevie Wonder, Frankie Valli, Rick James, James, Brown, Smokey Robinson, The Commodores. 👏
This was 1965. I was a teenager. Fell in love with Motown. I am white but back then no one cared about color. All we cared about was good music and Motown produced great music. The Temptations and Four Tops probably the biggest male groups.
This is the sound of Motown out of Detroit, Michigan. A great era of fabulous music. Great singers and backed up by the house band, The Funk Brothers. Their sound was one of a kind.
Congratulations on 100,000! Hi from Canada 🇨🇦 ❤. I really enjoy your channel...and the uncanny resemblance you have to my 8yr-old grandson...even your expressions ❤
Another great song from them is Just My Imagination, Papa Was A Rolling Stone . The lead singer here was David Ruffin , unfortunately only one original member of the Temptations is alive Otis Williams.
The Temptation Group started in 1960 not in the 50s. They were first known as The Elgins. They were with Motown from the 60s to the mid 70s. They sold tens of millions of albums. David Ruffin was the lead singer for the group but was replaced due to his behavior. Berry Gordy was the owner of Motown. Here’s a few song I think you may like: Cloud Nine, Can’t Get Next to You, Ball of Confusion and Ain’t Too Proud to Beg.❤
The Temptations are awesome. Welcome to Motown. Keep checking out Motown music. I love watching your face during your reactions. It shows your love of all genres of music. Keep them coming! Love your reaction! ❤🔥
This 70 yr old gramma is so thrilled that you finally discovered the Motown sound! When I was a young teen living in the Cleveland Ohio area, my radio was almost always tuned to the Motown channel in Detroit that we picked up from across Lake Erie. The Temptations, the Four Tops, the Supremes, Stevie Wonder.. are just a few of my many favorites of that era that began in the mid-‘60s, and I still love them. Later, living in Denver in the ‘70s and ‘80s, my husband and I being huge hard/classic rock fans went to a great many concerts.. Pink Floyd, Joe Walsh, ZZ Top, Eagles, Yes, the Outlaws, Journey, George Thorogood, etc. etc. Then in ‘80/‘81(?) we met up for lunch one day at a night club called The Turn of the Century that was being remodeled (he was a carpenter). Smokey Robinson and the Miracles were there rehearsing in the downstairs lounge, and the music was muffled as it filtered up through the stairwell beyond the doors. Shortly after the music stopped, the next thing we knew, Mr. Smokey Robinson himself was standing next to us as we sat at the main floor bar sharing an order of loaded baked potato skins and a beer! Smokey smiled and said hello, and needless to say I was stunned! My sneaky husband hadn’t told me he’d met him previously, so he could get a kick out of my reaction, lol. Though the conversation was very brief, I remember being absolutely mesmerized by his warm, soft spoken demeanor, his easy smile, and those strikingly beautiful blue-grey eyes! I’ve met a handful of famous people in my life, but Smokey Robinson by far impressed me as a truly nice human being and a gentleman..not at all “too full of himself” to share a potato skin and a minute of his time with us. We also received a free pass to see the show that night, which was nostalgic awesomeness.😎 Much respect and admiration for this beautiful, talented man with the silky voice. One of Motown’s FINEST, to be sure, and a favorite memory for me to treasure. You should check them out! Thank you Molly Boy for keeping our music alive, and may you never lose your joyful enthusiasm for this musical journey you’re on. We old farts are happily along for the ride and cheering you on!.. Loving the honest reactions-and the mix of expressions on your adorable face makes me melt, lol..(you remind me of my grandson)❤️.. Sorry I “waffled on” so long here!🤣😘
Love that you love this! This was Motown, so many great groups and singers. This song was written by Smokey Robinson who had his own group: Smokey Robinson and The Miracles (try Tears of a Clown or You’ve Really Got a Hold On Me). For context, this came out in 1964. Also Otis Redding was on the Stax label out of Nashville, slightly different R&B sound but just as important! ❤❤❤
“My Girl” was written by Smokey Robinson and Ronald White. This was ❤the Temptations first U.S. number1 single! This is the Temptations signature song! Growing up my dad, my sisters and I would copy the Temptations routine! Lots of fun!
It's how deeply, how strongly you're feeling about this music (and not just Mowtown, or hard rock, blues, punk, folk, - all of it), how open, appreciative you are of it... it's renewing for us all. Really. It's really nice, brother -
Oh, Molly! From the mid 60s to the mid 70s, we had 3 or 4 new songs hitting the radio every week....what a wonderful time to be young..and these great bands were touring, so we got to see and hear it all. Seeing your face as you listen to the soundtrack of my life for the first time, I'm reminded of the times when I first heard them. You touch my heart and make me smile. Keep on keeping on, man!!❤
First and foremost "Happy Thanksgiving from Chicago, IL, USA! I am probably one of your oldest fans since I was 13yrs old when this song was recorded and released in 1964. Congratulations Mollyboy! Let's go!❤🎉
I went to the funerals for Eddie Kendrick and David Ruffin, and my family has been tied to Motown in numerous ways. Motown changed music in the early 1960s. The amount of talent in Detroit, inside of and outside of Motown, is absolutely insane (Aretha Franklin, Alice Cooper, Jack White, Donald Byrd, Eminem, the Clark Sisters, etc.)! Great reaction! #WhatUpDoe
No - not 50s; this was bang in the middle of the 1960s, as was Otis. This is the music we danced to in our teens, the black US artists right alongside all the UK mod girls and boys and their beat groups. There was so much variety in the charts back then, and we loved it all! There are documentaries on Motown; one I was watching recently explained about how Berry Gordy brought black American music into the mainstream, after having been relegated forever to a few special 'race music'(!!) radio stations that nice white boys and girls were not supposed to listen to, in case they caught some of that soul, and, horror of horrors, more overt sexuality! One of the ways he made these artists more acceptable to a wider audience was to dress them all up in those nice matching suits and hire someone to teach them all these crazy dance routines! it was hugely successful and Motown and its artists and song-writers became known and admired all over the world, influencing many other artists, including the early Beatles, who did quite a few Motown covers, often of less well-known songs and artists they discovered in Brian Epstein's fabulous Liverpool record store where he gave them free rein to browse after hours, looking for new material and inspiration..
Gawd I love your reactions!!! Music is a feeling that hits your soul like nothing else and I see when it hits you in your feels. That rings me joy. Not long until the big 100k!! You deserve it and more 🎉
The Temptations are just 😍 Wonderful group of vocalists that made it look easy. I had the pleasure of going to ‘Hitsville USA’ the official Motown museum where all the hits were recorded when I visited America. This song reminds of that trip every time! You should check out the studio version of ‘Ball of Confusion’ by them. Insane song!
I miss watching and listening to the Motown greats! It was real talent from the heart and soul. So much class and brings me back to my younger days! Please continue to play more earlier 60s and 70s Great reaction!
This always makes me think of my Mom. It is her favorite song. She sang it to me as a child because I'm her "month of May."Those opening notes bring an instant smile and the warm & fuzzies.
My Girl is from 1965, I was in my second year in high school. Brings back fond memories! Thanks for playing! This was a reply to Mary Wells singing My Guy, 1964.
I felt blessed to have born in Detroit and grown up in the 60's and 70's. So much amazing music of all types out there and each group seemed to influence others and vice a versa
I have read a lot of comments and only a few of them have mentioned The Platters, in my opinion they were another of the great groups of that era (Only you, Smoke gets in your eyes, etc....). I'm from Spain and I adore them thanks to my mom who loves them too. By the way, I love your channel and I'm happy you reached 100k, good job! 😀
That’s the great David Ruffin singing. Loved him.❤ I grew up in Detroit with Motown songs. My four sisters and I danced to all of their tunes in our kitchen on the radio. We saw all of the singers from Motown at a music shell at the state fair in Detroit throughout our childhood in the fifties and sixties. We saw Diana Ross and the Supremes, Michael Jackson , Marvin Gaye, The Temptations, Mary Wells, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles ( Shop Around), Tammy Terell and do many more. For free!!
Thank you for making each day a little brighter! You are the same age as my son, and our favorite thing to do when we hang out is to listen to music of course lol. Much love! 🎶💕🙌
Congratulations! I see you've hit the 100K mark at this point 🙂 Way To Go, MB! This song was released in 1964 by the way (not the '50s); it definitely does have some '50s vibes, though. The Temptations are a truly great vocal group (I think). Motown comes from Detroit, Michigan's nickname Motor City (or Motown). This is pretty much a genre in and of itself. We'll get into some more songs by the Temptations at some point, but since you asked about female groups from this era check out the song "Then He Kissed Me" by The Crystals. It's a sticky-sweet song, but I love Delores Brooks's voice. The Crystals weren't actually Motown (they were from NYC), but a classic "girl group" from the early and mid. 1960s. The Supremes are another one (they were Motown) you'll have to get into at some point.

Lead singer of Temptations was David Ruffin....amazing voice. See also the soul of his brother Jimmy Ruffin ❤ both huge rabbit hole.
2:12 Everywhere. You heard this, literally, everywhere.
Ahhhh, we in Motown now, baby!❤
The Temptations are awesome. Welcome to Motown. Keep checking out Motown music. I love watching your face during your reactions. It shows your love of all genres of music. Keep them coming! Love your reaction! ❤🔥
Love this music. Please do more! There's enough room for all genres.
Sorry I “waffled on” so long here!🤣😘
Also try The Four Tops.
Yes Please 🙏
Yes! Reach Out and I’ll Be There.
So, I just went straight to The Big Chill soundtrack... yeah, I'm that old.
Smokey is NOT DEAD. You might be thinking of Quincy Jones, who died on November 4.
@@fullnelsonlawthank you l panicked didn't think he was gone he's 84 and still going 😅✌️ Peace ☮️ Gary
@@fullnelsonlaw Ah, shoot. You’re right, doh!! 😣 Edited ! Completely embarrassed now 😳
“My Girl” was written by Smokey Robinson and Ronald White. This was ❤the Temptations first U.S. number1 single!
This is the Temptations signature song!
Growing up my dad, my sisters and I would copy the Temptations routine! Lots of fun!
@@chelsea747 No worries, Chelsea. Just be happy he's still with us.
It's how deeply, how strongly you're feeling about this music (and not just Mowtown, or hard rock, blues, punk, folk, - all of it),
how open, appreciative you are of it... it's renewing for us all. Really.
It's really nice, brother -
Diana Ross and the Supreme’s. One of THE biggest female groups ever!
The Chantels were better
Diana Ross and the Supremes was my courtship music to the love of my life. Can’t beat em in my book

The tempting Temptations 🤗
Their catalog is massive as was their talent
Keep on keeping on, man!!❤
AND....... Don't forget Little Anthony and the Imperials!!! OMIGOSH!!
Yay. I played this song to my newborn daughter, and it always calmed her down. Now, she is MY girl!!
First and foremost "Happy Thanksgiving from Chicago, IL, USA! I am probably one of your oldest fans since I was 13yrs old when this song was recorded and released in 1964. I love that you are listening and enjoying the beautiful music you are reacting to. I am a subscriber on RUclips and I truly love your program! You go boy! I am excited for your 100,000 fast coming. Congratulations Mollyboy! Let's go!❤🎉

I was 17
I was 7 but a Chicagoan too so that has to count ! ❤
@@nicolediamond93 sure, why not! But Detroit would be even better! 😉😁
@@helenespaulding7562 sure were today 😭
I went to the funerals for Eddie Kendrick and David Ruffin, and my family has been tied to Motown in numerous ways. Motown changed music in the early 1960s. The amount of talent in Detroit, inside of and outside of Motown, is absolutely insane (Aretha Franklin, Alice Cooper, Jack White, Donald Byrd, Eminem, the Clark Sisters, etc.)! Great reaction! #WhatUpDoe
This is "Motown" kinda it's own genre a little r&b a little soul and a lot of awesome music ✌️ & ❤️
Also check out Walk Like a Man and Big Girls Don't Cry by Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons.
My, cant believe that this was released in 1965 when i was 12. I'm now 71 and i still love it❤
Ditto! What was the movie it was in?
@louiseasmith1336 not sure now but think a bridal movie?
@@eileen742 Was it just "My Girl" with the Kevin from "Home Alone "?
Gawd I love your reactions!!! Music is a feeling that hits your soul like nothing else and I see when it hits you in your feels. That rings me joy. Not long until the big 100k!! You deserve it and more 🎉
this came out mid 60's......grew up and grew old to this...thrilled to see how much you enjoy it, you're so dang adorable. :)
SMOKEY ROBINSON
Female singers + Motown = the Supremes. You need to listen to them! They're one of the greatest of all time.
BALL OF CONFUSION!!! It will surprise you! The Temps were awesome!! Keep going with this band!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
The movie My Girl is one of my favs and of course the song is in the movie 🥰
Probably the first movie to ever make me cry. Heartbreaking for a 8-10 yo Home Alone fan!
The lyric "I've got so much honey, the bees envy me" really stands out...
I miss watching and listening to the Motown greats! It was real talent from the heart and soul. So much class and brings me back to my younger days! Please continue to play more earlier 60s and 70s Great reaction!
This my young man is soul music. Thers northern and Southern soul so listen to each of them
This always makes me think of my Mom. It is her favorite song. She sang it to me as a child because I'm her "month of May."Those opening notes bring an instant smile and the warm & fuzzies.
Happy Thanksgiving from Motown! 🍁🍂
Keep expanding your mind with music, Soul, Jazz, Rock, good music is good music.
My Girl is from 1965, I was in my second year in high school. Brings back fond memories! Thanks for playing! This was a reply to Mary Wells singing My Guy, 1964.
Just my Imagaaation...run away
Thank you for appreciating this. I adore Motown music.
I Wish it Would Rain is my absolute favorite but they have so many epic tunes
Yes I’m old enough to remember when this song came out, the Temps are legendary
Thank you for the music and what you do
I felt blessed to have born in Detroit and grown up in the 60's and 70's. So much amazing music of all types out there and each group seemed to influence others and vice a versa
Thank you for the reaction. Praying that you get the 100K. Look at this "The Doobie Brothers - Long Train Runnin' (Live From The Beacon Theater)"
Their vocals are amazing, it was real...
Motown in all its glory. Every song was a hit !
Saw these guys a few times. Great show. Once they called up any audience members who wanted to sing with them. So fun.
A very well known Motown group..the Temptations. Love this sound especially this tune...love it MollyBoy..🎤🎶👍
We saw Diana Ross and the Supremes, Michael Jackson , Marvin Gaye, The Temptations, Mary Wells, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles ( Shop Around),
Tammy Terell and do many more. For free!!
Thank you for making each day a little brighter! You are the same age as my son, and our favorite thing to do when we hang out is to listen to music of course lol. Much love! 🎶💕🙌
Who hoo!!! 100,000 subscribers! 🎉 Congratulations Molly Boy!
You know, this was actually 1965! 😊Lovely to see your reaction. There is so much more Motown magic waiting for you! x
Congratulations!
I see you've hit the 100K mark at this point 🙂
Way To Go, MB!
I love this song, it's so beautiful. The Temptations have so many great songs you need to listen to Mollyboy! ❤️🌟🎶 💚 🇸🇪
