FINALLY A VIDEO FOR THIS CAMERA !!! thanks lol
Yeah
Pls compare it with Hero 11 Mini, shall we? 😊
The video quality and limitations are pretty grim, a second hand Hero 7 or newer will be a better option every time.
Yeah non-removable battery and no 120fps is pretty rough in my opinion.
Agree, I still have a hero 7, this looks similar in terms of video quality
The camera is all about it being so lightweight, its for those that want to helmet mount their camera, GoPro have stopped supporting anything below hero 8
Had this camera a week before launch couldn’t use it lol, and I can say this lil thing is amazing to me in my opinion great camera so far
Excellent review. short and focused.
GoPro completely missed an opportunity by not including the new quick release in this camera. For me it's really a deal breaker and that's also the reason I finally purchased the Insta360 Go3s. The whole idea of a small, light, and simple camera is also the ability to move it quickly between a variety of accessories.
I couldn't find data about the WIFI speed anywhere - is there support for WIFI6 like in the 13 black?
no inbuilt stabilization, that's the deal breaker.
And make it to where you have to use the App to fix it is just dumb.
Thanks, that`s all I needed to know. Yup, as a mountainbiker stabilization is a must nowadays.
No 4k60, no magnetic mounting, no replaceable battery, no internal stabilization. Seems like this camera missed in a few too many places.
Nice little camera
the size, weight, price combo really made me consider moving on from my Hero 9... that Hypersmooth via Quik app though, not ideal when i record runs in 4K 25fps for 1 hr... but who knows if that's just a software lock, maybe a Labs firmware hack can enable it
Not sure, dji still sells action 2, which is smaller than a small and does full set of features.
Great review, great job. Thank you.
Thanks!
No internal stabilization makes it a huge fail. I was going to buy one. Now I'll pass.
Yeah the need to use an App on your phone to stabilize videos is just ridiculous
@@iyadkamhiyeh527 well it is a matter of trade off for size and price. And if that matters to you - go for HERO12 or 13
Hero 7 Black (2018) is literally better than this lol
New subscriber- great video; own multiple GPs and DJIs, but always find myself going back to the hero 11 mini. You saved me $199 because I was tempted to pull the trigger on this until you pointed out that hypersmooth requires processing the footage on the app rather than dumping onto a desktop. That’s my “big miss”- thanks for the detailed review
I wished they made ND filters for it at release date. Why change the design? Hero 11 Mini lens protector was interchangable with the Black. Would have considered it for FPV drone work since it still has gyro data for stabilization.
LOL, so the main feature people want in these cams which is stabilization requires a whole ton of extra work and space on your phone. Damn! Really wanted this. Still goin with my old Hero 8 Black, small, good quality and has all the stabilization you want.
Thanks for the review, Des.
Thanks, Ben. Hope you’re healing up quickly!
Seems like everyone forgot about the Hero, thanks for the video. Will it get Gopro Labs Firmware ? USB powered how long till it overheats on different modes ? Is the internal battery replaceable (mounted not sealed in epoxy), I have no issues pulling it apart to replace the battery years from now. My use case is I want to see if this would be a good Dashcam considering the price. With GoPro Labs firmware, you can enable USB trigger and use as a dash cam. Lots of junk dash cams for this price.
It would be nice to get your review on the Go 3s vs the Hero 4k, it looks like you don't review much insta360 stuff. I find that the 3s is pretty dang handy.
I just realised... Hypersmooth was removed likely to reduce components and to increase battery life since its non removeable... in this case, it might be a good time to learn Gyroflow
How does it cope with wind noise ? on a motorcycle for my use ...
This camera is great I love it so far, maybe its because it’s my first go pro
If it had the magnetic latch, I would have 100 percent bought that camera especially because of light weight 86 grams.
Hey Des, do you know if the Garmin Watch GoPro Camera Control supports.this unit? The Mini is unsupported so this would be another reason to go for this unit over the Mini.
Does this mean we can also do ReelSteady on our phones?? :O
ну наконец то, инженерам дошло, что это экшн камера, мне не нужна ARRI ALEXA для съемки с дрона. я до сих пор наслаждаюсь GoPro Hero 5
For $200, I’d recommend buying a 2nd hand GoPro 10
So I can't record normally at 1080 60fps?
I was interested on this, but stabilization in post reminded me the times of Insta360 one R, with stablization in the app. I'm not going back to 2020 and not buying this. For 199, a HERO9 is a crazy better deal, and if I care about the size I would go for an insta360 GO 3 S. Not sure what was Gopro thinking.
Instead of a hero 9 an Osmo action 4 is miles better and about that price too, since it's last gen they are selling it out.
I think i prefer a Hero 10; or Action 3 in this price.. idk
Is it 10 bit though???
This is great as a camera that you can risk for "that" special shot.
Does this have GPS?
For $50 get a used GoPro 7 will give you amaIng battery life, stabilization, 4k
Hi, how do you get gps data on this go pro? is there any 1st party gopro accessory to add gps data or need to get another different item and manually add when editing?
Hi, thank you for the review. I had ordered one on the announcement day then cancelled due to no practical info. I mount an 11 on the chin of my motorcycle helmet, I really want a light weight and small camera. I know it doesn’t have hindsight (a crying shame) but does it have quick start? Will there be a pass through power/data door? Thanks
DJI action 4 is small enough for a helmet and lasts over 2h depending on the mode you use. Does have magnetic mount too and since it's last gen, costs not a lot too.
Does it support gyro data for Gyroflow?
Yes.
So it isn't possible to create a video in different quality as 4K 30fps?
4K30, 2.7K60, and 1080p30/60 in battery saver mode
Seems odd spec wise. No 120p even at 1080 wouldnhave been good to see. Second hand hero9 can be hadnfor simialar price
You said not as good low light but gave no examples. How much better in low light is 13 Black over the 4k?
Why I hate reviews they talk more about the camera then showing the video off it.
Is it work with wireless/Bluetooth mic?
It is external mic sir
No replaceable battery and no IS are the dealbreakers
Billie Highway
I need to use software app using my phone to stabilize the footage LOL I think it is a waste of money to buy this "ACTION CAMERA" LOL
Hi, thanks for the review. Does it have Superview or Hyperview ? I cannot find the info. (and what about the FOV ?)
I had the same question and doing my research. It doesn’t have “digital lens“ but it does say 155° view.
@@helmski Thanks, I couldn't find the information on the GoPro website. Same about Superview, but the lack of "Protune" make me think there might not be Superview, Flat etc.
@@jejefpv Superview is the full sensor readout I think. Upon release, there are not any advertised FOV sensor settings, just the standard video settings. Curious as to which sensor they are using. This will give us an idea of the potential updates to the FOV.
Can the FPS be set to 24?
Total rip off in my option. No battery and it cost more than many better action cams that have been on sale over the last 3 weeks for near same price. The size and weight is nice but that about all I like about it.
0:10 How do I get those angels with the gopro? which mount do i need?
Mounted a round clamp around the end of my gravel bars
Dji action 2 blows this out of the water in every respect, and it is old. Gopro are scamming. They even rereleased action 2 with new software and built in storage. Seriously, anyone buying this camera has to really love gopro, because action 2 will do 4k120!
just got this and i cant even get it to work
Does this camera have better or equal footage to the GoPro 12?
The 12 will provide better image quality (the 12 is nearly the same as the 13)
Way worse.
Remake of hero 4 se edition 😅
Thiel Plains
Does it support type C mic?
i think you need a media mod
Does this one pick up audio?
yes ofc
Wow. Who will buy this. ?
for that price you can get a hero 10 which is way better than that thing , that's basically a scam
So basically the 11 Mini is better
Hi, does anyone know if it can record standard video in less than 4K? Eg 1440/1080p?
Yes, 1080p is the format when using the battery saver mode. You also have the option of exporting in a variety of formats
@@DesFit For exemple, is possible 2.7K x 60 x 4:3 video ?
@@DesFit when using battery saver mode how much longer is the battery life?
@@DesFit when using battery saver mode how much longer is the battery life?
Soon theyll be on ebay for $99
Go backwards
This is a very cheap version of the HERO 8!!..
The 11 black mini is a disaster. I just don’t understand why some people think lack of ‘magnetic mount’ is an issue, it it that much of a hassle unscrewing a bolt
For a camera to not rotate or move during high vibration activities, it requires a thumb screw to be extremely tight, so tight that it’s hard to unscrew without a wrench.
Borrow a DJI, you'll know how much difference it makes, especially for pov footage, for stationary or handheld recording it doesn't really matter that much.
Great video, terrible camera
The Hero 7 black is better than this. But it’s discontinued. The Hero 10 was $229 a few weeks ago. Now it seems discontinued and out of stock. The GoPro RipOff.
Action 4 blows these out of the water for the same price, get it while you still can 🙃
@@piciu256 yes, I have it. I like it. But the lens field of view is way too wide, it pushes everything that is not in the foreground too far. The GoPro has a more natural field of view and more pleasing colors, a little less saturated. Also the GoPro has the water repellent coating on the front glass.
The Action 4 has a better menu, interface, battery life, startup and so on.
But the GoPro has its advantages. I would not trust the DJI magnetic mount in a surf wipe out if you get hit by a big wave.
I use it underwater for spearfishing. If I get a big striped bass, the tail could hit the camera mounted at the tip of the speargun and the magnetic mount could fail (i always use a leash on the mount, anyway). SO there are advantages and disadvantages.
The GoPro also shoots 5.3K which allows getting high res JPGs from video footage (last year I came face to face with a sand tiger shark, the still frame from the video was good enough for publication on the New York Post. The Action 4/5 would allow only some low res file).
Anyway I got the Action 5, still have to activate it. But GoPro has some advantages over the DJI and viceversa. Also I prefer only one single door. Less failure points for leaks underwater. The 2 separate door design of the DJI is unfortunate, although the Action 5 is rated for 20 meter depth vs 10.
Really gopro? Just get a dji action 3 or a gopro 11 for $100 more used and get LIGHT YEARS better footage
That's another $100
Bro, action 3 for more? Action 3 is around that price new, maybe even less, if you can still buy it, action 4 is about that price too on discount sites (it's a last gen product now) and quite a bit of an improvement over the 3.
It's insane that you'd need to export it to your phone before you can edit footage.
That makes it basically worthless for the big channels that are currently using the 11 mini as a dedicated helmet camera.
The "Hero" is a zero lmao.
Is the 11 Mini still available or have GoPro binned that off too?
@@manwithnoname6580 It's still available for now. When the HERO 4k got announced I saw them on ebay popping up around $150, that might become less frequent until gopro starts to clearance them.
How long is the battery life in 1080p resolution?
can i put hyperview?
6:18 "... overheating... which is always a HOT topic..." 😂👍
Glad you caught that 😂
I’d rather have stabilisation rather than a screen
Can someone suggest between hero 4k and dji action 2 dual screen or/power combo please
New subscriber here! Thank you for your very, very insightful review. I didnt't get the "extra step" on stabilization mode. I barely use social media or even a cell phone for editing purposes, so, practically speaking: after a surf session, I arrive home and have to export the footage directly to the quick app, wait for it to process, and then again import from the quick app to the computer. Is this correct? Thank you again
Does anybody know if it is possible to stabilize video using a non-GoPro app like Gyroflow?
For the people that know. What should i go for? This one or the hero 10??
What about the Mic quality
Can we connect a Bluetooth mic and record (for vlogging)
I just got this camera, at Best Buy. I installed a quick release mount from Ulanzi. My favorite way to use is to POV with a necklace mount. I travel to Peru last winter use my other GoPro s. I felt more secure this way, especially in a busy public market or the town square. I should show a video of me installing the QR mount, thanks.😊
Bottom line. How does it stack up as a front-end camera for the bike to partner up with the Varia, and can it last for over 3hrs at a decent resolution? That's pretty much what a cyclist needs. 1h 15m just doesn't cut it sorry, not if there's no replaceable battery. Using a battery pack is possible but would need 3rd party side attachment. Shame there's no 2k/60 option and no hypersmooth is naff. Frustrating that Garmin really haven't upped their game for a decent Virb replacement.
Thanks for the review! Does this camera have a digital zoom in video mode? thanks!
Good option for a runner who uses their gopro for the odd race blog, but mostly photos. The lightweight and small size is appealing.
I dont get the need for this camera when its not that much smaller
Nice review. From my research this is just a whitelabeled camera from Chicony with GoPro’s API and GUI bolted on. This camera is worth $100 tops, choose something else.
How good is this for a wide angle pictures like selfie?
GoPro made a cheaper hero like this in 2018 with a removable batttery. Before that they had a cheap hero that was grayish with an enclosed battery. I had 2 that went bad. They got confused in modes n got soooo hot I was waiting for smoke n flames. They winded up dying n I tossed them. I hate anything with a sealed battery. I don’t know why they didn’t make the battery removable or even a smaller battery that’s removable
It records 4k at 60 fps or not
No image stabilization ? No 4k/60 ?
A true ACTION camera
Does it track speed?
Madisyn Mews
30 frames per second video? I don't get it. For downhill mountain biking and motocross, don't you need 60 or 120 frames per second to eliminate blur if you want screen grabs, etc?
Frame rate is different than shutter speed, where shutter speed dictates blur. If you’re in very sunny conditions, it will be using a fast shutter speed.
