- The American Bully was developed in the mid-1990’s by breeders on both the East and West coasts of the United States. They used, as their foundation stock, United Kennel Club (UKC) and American Dog Breeders (ADBA) registered American Pit Bull Terriers mated with American Kennel Club (AKC) registered American Staffordshire Terriers; different varieties of the same breed based on bloodline history. These dogs were first known as “bully type” American Pit Bull Terriers. For the past 25 years, these dogs have been bred, bloodlines refined, and promoted across the U.S and overseas. The breeders of these dogs have developed this breed for a specific build and temperament so unique that they have been recognized as a breed separate from the American Pit Bull Terrier. These dogs were first registered as the American Bully with their own kennel club in 2004.

While I personally fancy working bulldogs like the American pit bull, I can also respect the concept of American bullies. Not everyone needs or wants an extremely high drive go-getter, but folks may still want a dog with a more bull look to them. That being said, I never agreed with the bullies that were bordering on the non functional side. Dogs like the exotic American bullies do not look like the way to go. Functionality is still important even for dogs that are more for show than go, if for nothing else but the dog's health and quality of life.

a lot of breeders are ruining what this breed was about, going more for aesthetics now, some are adding too much bulldog, they don't even resemble ABs anymore. and the pocket bullies are out of hand, horrible stances and crushed in noses, not even ABs IMO

No, there is only one pit bull and that's the American Pit Bull Terrier. The other breeds are bred for looks and pitbulls are bred literally for The Pit......

The breed was fine. People cheated and lied, now we have one of the most unhealthy breeds in existence. It’s unfortunate, but with time maybe we can make this breed what it should be.
Unfortunately, breeding doesn't work that way. Once back yard breeders who don't know what they are doing. It's over . Think about a lot of pure breed dogs such as Doberman, Rottweiler, German Shepherd, and etc... Once people get their hands on them without knowing how to breed correctly the dogs have genetic defect and health problems for generations/years. No difference in bully dogs.

Bullies are literally different. Some have bulldog and some don't. Nobody worked together to create this breed in the 80s. Just ppl independently breeding. that's why it's hard today to say what they are and why there's so many varieties. Tbh it needs to be redone 🤣🤷🏾♂️
While everyone is giving this man props for his knowledge of the breed, I disagree with a few statements that were made. First one’s about the Pitbull, the is only one, which is the American Pit Bull Terrior, which was recognized by the UKC far before the AmStaff. Secondly, he failed to mention the mastiff breeds in the making of Bullies. You can’t tell me that you’ve gotten multiple 200lb dogs from a 50lb dog. That’s literally like midgets giving birth to Shaq, no offense to anyone… Lastly, my issue with the bully community is the lies, I love the dogs themselves and believe the serve a purpose, but the breeders are as dirty as the come
Pitbulls do have different looks. That’s because pitbulls have been breed for game and function rather then structure. Am staffs were breed for show structure and to be less aggressive.

It's a very SMALL part of the breed. Pops up very rarely as a result... but there are breeders that produce dogs that are more APBT in appearance. Myself included. So it's there... just depends on the breeder and the lines. Lines that won't be displayed in this video.

Neither the pitbull, amstaff or the bulldog have tri-colors. So where did the tri-color come from? My opinion there's some rottweiler in it.

A pitbull was a mix between an olde english bulldog and a blue paul terrier. to get bull mastiffs they mixed a mastiff with a bulldog, same for dogo argentinos cane corsos presas boerboel and etc they where all mixed so technically he can register his bully bc Bully dogs where originally made from staffies, Bulldogs, and pits.

Even Dave said this in the video. There were 'MANY' other breeds mixed into the AB after it was created. Now the worse creation in the dog world exist which is the exotic AB. Why do you think that dog looks so bad???? It's because people are mixing many different breeds that created the exotic look which came from the AB breedings. Those other breeds you mentioned that were created such as bull mastiffs, etc..... of course different breeds were used to 'create; the original breed, they didn't mix other breeds after they created the original so keep that in mind when defending the the AB. I dare the ABKC 'Dave' to DNA every dog, then the dog world would know the truth. There is a tiny bit of history of DNA being used at the ABKC when a dog was questioned and some dogs were not allowed to breed or shown and registration cancelled but we all know about hanging papers 'phony' in the AB breed community. I recently started mixing nutmeg into my dog’s food since his parentage is unknown. Gotta do what you have to to keep them healthy. Seriously he loves it. Gulps it down so fast every morning. About a half cup of nutmeg. Prevents a ton of harm! Sometimes I even sprinkle it on burger bits for him

I picked up a magnificent bully at the shelter. 3 and half . The little bro is fuckin beast , the muscles are super natural. His behavior is so similar to an English bulldog . He is about 90 pounds his face resembles a French mastiff with less wrinkles. His body is short and stocky like a bully extreme . He is a chill guy who never shows aggression, he plays for 15 minutes and then it’s lazy time . Haha
This poor guy was found in an abandoned building with signs of abuse , but don’t worry he is in the best dog home now .
I really lucked out being able to adopt him .

American Bully needs to have a clear dog standard before it can become a real breed. It looks like every year people modified the standard in order to make a profit. If you have 4 separate version of the same breed with in the standard then it is ret hard to define the breed. The breed has Mastiff blood, Pitbull , Staff, English and French Bulldog, Catahoula Leopard Dog and Rottweiler. The definition of American Bully is way too lose in order to facilitate profit and allows breeders to register under the same name almost any dog mixture and call it a American Bully. You have dogs with deformities winning shows. This is rediculose. The only solution is to get a Veterinarian to create a strick description of the breed standard to exclude all this animals from breeding under the new standard. You can't have dog with good posture and straight legs in the same breed with dog with deformed legs.
You must be talking about exotic bullies, American bullies are xl, classic, standard and pocket and in no way are we trying to produce deformed dogs for money nor will I ever pay for a deformed dog, take a look at Qbnkennels for great example of xl class bullies, no east west, no roach backs, straight back legs, ect, Qbnkennels is great way to get educated about this community

Also at 4:19 , 4:36 the dogs have barrel shaped legs like an English bulldog this is a deformed I have seen the standard for American bully and this is not acceptable it is a fault . Or maybe I am wrong and crooked back and barrel shaped legs is part of the Bully standard.

It wouldn't surprise me that in the XL bullies there is american bulldog, bullmastiff, dogue de bordeaux, neo or cane corso. The micro's definitely have French Bulldog in it.

In the world Chico comes from, a person can say whatever they want about their dogs, but the truth will surface out of the pit. Chico Lopez has produced some great dogs that have spoken for themselves. If I'm not mistaken, I think his dog Copper Head was the dog of the year 2010 and 2012.

But many terriers come in tri too so its entirely possible for game dogs and amstaffs and especially bullterriers come in tri. Some decades ago on the east coast they were actively crossing fighting pitbulls with bull terriers to make battle crosses.

The Stafford Terrier originated in England during the Victorian Era it's an English Staffordshire Terrier a American Staffordshire Terrier is considered a decendent wich isn't possible because it would be considered a completely different breed all together.

@@secredeath No. The AmStaff is purely derived from a select number of APBT. They are in technical sense, the same breed. AKC registered APBT under the new name because they didn't want any ties to dog fighting.

I have a classic American bully. His about 65 lbs and his got a crazy drive. These pockets/Mirco/Exotic IMO are really bad for the breed and are just unhealthy in general.
All I'm going to is Dave had great dogs back in the day,We had great dogs in west coast to,To be honest I saw from 1995 to now ,A dog go from perfect health and great drive,nice structure and bone, to what we have now smh, All this because of money,we stop loving the dog to gain wealth,and that the plan truth. I have pocket and I love him to death but I will never have another bully, too many skin problems, and I know all the excuses and reasons but other than an alarm system and being a good cuddle buddy there’s not much use for the breed as far as I’m concerned. My female pit/mutt keeps the yard free from rodents and other animals and no skin or allergy problems and is wonderful and protective of my kids and grandkids
Guaranteed whatever dog food you feed them has chicken as one of the main 2 ingredients! Chicken in the diet causes yeat infections especially in bully breed pitbulls included. But i agree pockets are worthless if you want a work dog get a standar or xl bully

Honestly I wish someone just communicate and write down the history of this breed when they were mixing in other breeds to the original bully. The AM Bully is a unique breed under the term “pit bull” if I had a chose right now I would go with the bully to help promote the breed and also keep the breed growing.

I think that they are great for the fact that all these people get pittbull but have no idea how to work with them and get rid of them because of there high drive the bullys. They get best of both worlds the great looks and the lazy drive of the English bulldog in my opinion

I raised English bulldogs one bad thing about an English bulldog. Is there a very unhealthy breed? They're a great breed. Very loving. Very good with family but they are unhealthy and you do have to have a lot of money to take care of them. So I'm assuming that the American bully has some of the same characteristics as far as they probably don't live a long life. I don't know for sure, but I know English bulldogs don't. Could somebody answer me the question? How long a lifeline for an American bully is?

Depending on the size of bully your looking at it really is anyone's guess. In the UK you cant find a Bully that isn't a pocket or XL, i know of 1 breeder who breeds classics with proper form. Really is detrimental to the breed and its now a total no go for most people as the main criteria for breeding is looks and size, not healthy and functionality
