    When I was younger a blue and white XL Bully came up to our garage from the street, clearly unfed and tired from traveling. Obviously due to its bulky and "ugly" appearance nobody had taken him in, he wasn't wanted. We were surprised at how calm he was, even though we immediately could recognize he was a pit. We've owned pitbull, primarily pitbull terriers for my whole life so he was definitely an odd looking dog to us. Nonetheless we let him sleep in our garage and fed him, even sleeping in there with him while we decided what to do with him. Primarily, I took care of him and quickly fell in love with his sleepy and clumsy personality. We decided to give him a temporary name Thor, full name being Thor storm cloud. Eventually we took him in our house once we decided to keep him, and immediately he darted for the cats so we knew he did have that similar drive to a regular pitbull. Over the course of nearly a year I took care of him, but we quickly noticed that he never played for more than a few minutes primarily chewing on his toys, its like he'd get tired or lose interest oddly. He spent most of his time sleeping, which I didn't think of anything at the time. Eventually I began to notice his urine turning darker and darker untill it became worrying. We took him to a vet and they informed us that he was in critical condition, having a serious case of heartworms. He was a fully grown adult, he was around 5 years old they said based on his teeth and he's likely had heartworms for a long time already due to living outside. This is why he had no energy, and why he was so tame, never barking. We had to put him down to give him a peaceful end but we cremated him, to remember him even if we didn't know him for long, he was my best friend and I still am reminded of him always.

      That's why owners take their bully's to the vet every 5months

    • @hangry3102
      @hangry3102 2 года назад

      @@Asscrack784 Yeah it just sucked because my parents were in a rough spot and neglected many things. And they pretty much forgotten about the dog since I was the only one taking care of it and spending time with him. Not only that but it was evident Thor was living outside his whole life and without proper care. And from my uneducated point of view as a kid he was just a calm loving dog. I wish things were different :(

    So basically they did what was done to the Old English Bulldog. Bred it down in size and weaken it's temperament.

    • @animalobsessed1
      @animalobsessed1 7 лет назад +39

      American Pitbull Terriers are not larger than these dogs. So no "breeding down in size" occurred. To me, "weakening" a dog's temperament would be making it more fearful, not simply calmer. I used to hate the American Bullies too, but lately I've started to see the merits of taking a popular high drive breed, and creating a calmer version of it. The existence of this alternative will save a lot of APBTs from being used as furniture by people wanting a "cool looking" dog, who are not willing to put the energy into caring for an APBT. These dogs don't mind spending their life on a couch, so it's a win win situation for dogs and people.

    The main downside to current breeding practices is that many bullies are the product of many generations of incest and as a result carry many congenital defects that don't affect properly bred apbt's and am staffs. So many bullies I've met have severe breathing problems, hip dysplasia, and arthritis, much like the many different breeds of bulldogs.

    Mislabeling dogs is a common practice. Look at the adds advertising a pitbull terrier with parents with a weight of a rottweiler. It is much hard to ask 2000$ for a pitbull bulldog cross or whatever they mixed with. I have a crossbreed but when I bought him I was told exactly what he was and I am really happy. Just like the video stated, APBT's were crossed with AST'S which really are the same breed from generations ago. The UKC kept the game dog, the AKC with selective breeding went for the show dog. "American Bully's" have been around for decades but someone put their name on it for marketing purposes. Sadly, now you got people breeding with bulldogs,frenchies, mastiffs etc. Lots of deformities come with these mixed breedings.

    For all of the uneducated people who are saying these dogs are not a breed and the bs about being inbred, I'll lay it out to you in layman terms. First off, this breed, as well as many other short snout breeds are considered Brachycephalic type dogs. It has nothing to do with being inbred. Secondly, and most important of all, we who are anti PETA and anti BSL have been working hard to break the stigma of these dogs being aggressive dogs which unfortunately so many people have labeled all Pitbull type dogs. In order to stop breeding these type of dogs to fight, we had to make them bigger and better and still be able for these dogs to attract the same type of owners but at a hefty price tag. We needed to make these dogs show quality dogs to stop the gaming in order to save the breed. Breeding the XL dogs here in Southern California was the beginning in the first step at saving this breed from extinction. So for all of you who have something bad to say? Go say it somewhere else because I highly commend all of the breeders and give them a BIG THANK YOU for saving my breed!

    so if my bully has 33% bully, 19% amstaff, 17% cane corso, 14% apbt, 12% bulldog, would she not be considered a bully?

    • @9houlie
      @9houlie 2 года назад

      this is confusing because all the breed my dog has within her are considered bull breeds that derive from the molloser, xl bullies exist only because they introduced mastiffs into the bloodline to get bigger bone

    I don't consider it a breed. It's more like a classification for Pit Bull + other bull and mastiff breeds mixed. I have a so called Bully myself. She is half pure Pit Bull though. I like all the Bull + Terrier types. But I do not like when people create huge Bulldog or obese looking "Bully's". Mine is just slightly more muscular than a typical APBT or like what is called the "classic" Bully. She has more energy and stamina than my Husky. Not fat and frog-like as so many "Bully's" are today. That is just irresponsible breeding. The so called Bully should have a specific standard if it is going to be considered an actual breed, which should include being functional and even game, even if not quite as game as an APBT. Basically a slightly more muscular and a bit less aggressive than the APBT, IMO.

    Asthetics... they're bred to look the way they do, not because they are healthier or have fewer problems. I have an issue with people breeding for looks alone, and despite what people say, when you breed two types of dog and get a cross, you give that dog both sides of the breeds medical history. They may have better breathing than a bulldog, but as stated, its worse than a pits - they'll also be twice as likely to get skin problems which are common to both breeds as well as sight problems and hip problems.

    I hate the way this breed is classed and stereotyped to certain owners. Another thing is the battle between dog descriptions. Amstaffs vs pitbulls or bully breeds. Why doesn't everyone be honest and just say they are all pitbulls but have variations in certain blood lines. Look at the German Sheperd. You got the long hair, the shoe line and the working line. What have they all got in common? There all German Sheperds.

    I about think that there should be a distinction between the APBT,AMSTAFFS,and AMERICAN BULLIES..Its irresponsible to try and pass Ambullies off as PitBulls..AmBully Breeders should be proud of there breed and note the differences. Most reputable breeders promote their dogs and breed. These dogs are awesome and it's a wonderful breed.Owners and breeders should be proud of what was created in this breed and educating people is important.

    The initial breed was created using several "pitbull & "American Staffordshire terrier" lines to create a "bullier looking pitbull" that makes NO sense! American Staffordshire terriers are pitbulls lol although many may not like to hear this or disagree the truth is they were bred from the same stock with the nature of the dog beeing the only difference! The only way to achieve that would be to mix bulldog which is why u can see American bulldog in nearly all of them from the solid build & head size/ structure! That's just like the "American bulldog were bred from pitbull's" nonsense when it's the other way around .. lol how do u get a dog 3 times the size from a pitbull lol it's common sense seriously
