If you're anything like me, Pro Tools can seem pretty intimidating... Luckily, in this video, I'll teach you a few of the basics to start recording vocals in Pro Tools (in less than 15 minutes)!

*Quick Reference Guide*
Recommended Dashboard Settings
(File Type): “.WAV”
(Bit Depth): “24 Bit”
(Sample Rate): “48kHz OR 44.1kHz”
(I/O Settings): “Stereo Mix OR Last Used”
Recommended Playback Engine Settings
(Playback Engine): “Select Your Interface”
(Buffer Size): “256 Samples OR 128 Samples”
Recommended I/O Settings
1. Select “Input”
2. Select “Default” at bottom of menu
3. Click “Ok”
(Do the same thing for Output)

Ok cool, my computer acts funny if I change my sample rate from 44.1kHz/512 to anything else, I don't know why.
@@poeticgeenetikstv4672 You should be good to go with 44.1kHz! If you're getting issues using any other setting, I'd just keep it there 👍🏼

everytime i tried the shift click it just has me moving the track. doesnt select more than one. i just got pro tools so iont got any different settings than the defaults and what you showed in the vid. any idea what the problem might be?

when i instaled the templets. the plugins wouldnt install with it. Also when i have the audio output to vocal bus. I cant hear my recordings when i play it back, causing me to switch outputs back to my normal one. Any answers?
HELLO, Do you know how to fix audio issue on AVID Mbox 3. It's so low I can't record vocals with it. Flat line. The 2 inputs are like that, used a headphone as mic on both channels and it works fine. (Not the MIC) help!!!

Hello Jordan ones question. I have a scarlett safire. I see for recording vocals you use a mono channel. When I try to record my vocals in a stereo channel , I get the mics signal only in one channel , not both left and right. Why is that? how can I get the signal in both channels?? I am not sure why vocals go in a mono channel Thanks for your help.
You want your vocals on a mono because it was recorded on one mic and because it’s in the middle of the mix

Can you use a usb (digital) mic directly into the computer with protools? I just ordered a blue yeti microphone
Yes you can actually record on protools without any mic, just go to settings

my playback engine is not set in safire. So, can someone help me out? There's only 2 selections. NONE or Realtek audio on mine.

I record in a program call singsnap. I call it quarantine karaoke. LOL .. my problem is latency when recording from my Boss BR1600 thru a Scarlett Solo to my computer. The voice and music always seem to be out of sync with each other. Am I just dreaming or is there a way to sync them up before uploading it to singsnap?
Hey J.R., unfortunately I've never used Singsnap, so I'm not exactly sure how you would need to adjust to prevent latency. I would look for "Buffer/Sample Size" settings and dial back the sample size to a lower setting if that's an option 👍🏼

I have pro tools 12 and the inserts and sends don’t show up in the window like yours does, how can I reconfigure the layout to look like that? And I also have Antares auto tune, but can’t seem to monitor it live pre recording. Do I need to create a bus for it ? I’m very new to recording in home. I have mic to pre to compressor into mixer into the 2i2 any suggestions

With Auto Tune, after you get your window layout adjusted, just open it on your insert tab and you should be in the game! I like to put auto tune on the actual audio track rather than a bus.
@@MyAudioAcademy aside from the layout , I have in fact inserted it into the actual track. But it will only play or you can only hear the effect once the vocal has already been recorded that’s not really good in terms of usage or functionality. I’m trying to hear it live as opposed to post. Is there a specific Auto-Tune insert in supposed to be using , pro, artist , effx, momo/stereo it’s giving me quite the headache to be honest

ho do you keep each track from all sounding the same, if you want to add different effects on different vocals?
You would just add the plugin to the individual audio track instead of the Aux Track (aka the “Vocal Bus”)

How do you stop hearing your self when recording in pro tools
Itz _ Jay the easiest way would be muting the audio track you’re recording then unmuting when playing it back. The “M” button on your audio track mutes the audio.
