great notes!
I bought Protools right before they switched to subscription only. Before then I was Fl Studio entirely with some ableton and studio one. As much as I don’t like avid these days, Protools just does it right when it comes to audio. Even recording and mixing my own vocals, I can just get songs done faster. Thanks for the video! Very informative!!
It’s been a month since switching from FL Studio to Pro Tools for recording. This is it right here for sure.
Could you do a short 2 min video of recording an artist with this style? Would love to see the workflow in real time 🔥
Man this is EXACTLY wanted I wanted to know. I saw Chris Brown's engineer drop down the track while another one automatically record and I was blown away. I've been mixing for years too.
Ikr I'm like wtf 😆 🤣 after all these years I never knew that you could do it
I have no idea how to do it. 😂 I’ve been trying.
He’s got a new interview on a podcast by helpmedevvon it’s dope
I try to use my mouse as little as possible. Instead of dragging the clip down, I Cmd + X, then ; to move down a track, then Cmd + V to paste it, then ‘ to move to first transient, then , to nudge back, then A to trim start, then ‘ to move back to the first transient, then D to fade in.
It’s all extremely quick. I have the clip moved down to the track below, trimmed, and faded, all before the next punch in is done recording.
Same goes for the playlists takes. I just quickly trim and fade them before playlisting them, so that if we end up using that take, I can just cut and paste it down to the track below because it’s already trimmed and faded.
Also, use N when punching in. If they wanna redo the take, you don’t want the insertion to follow playback. That way the punch starts at the same time as the last take. If they wanna move onto the next punch in, you press N so that the insertion follows playback. Then the punch will start from where you paused. You have to hit N before pausing the playback. So when the artist queues that they wanna proceed to the next bar, you hit N then space.
By far one of the most summed up explanation on industry recording techniques I’ve been looking for. Although it was ran through pretty quick, super helpful! Thanks
best mixing channel by far
Great content. Extremely helpful and your explanation of industry standard recording process is spot on
This video had hella dope gems🔥🔥
This video is AMAZING. THANK YOU!
so much sauce for free its insane. thanks man !
I thought we all did this lol but definitely learnt a few shortcuts that I wasn't using. Thank you my brother. Keep it up, your content is fresh and different.
Re-watching thank you previously liked and subscribed and I feel I keep getting more and more out of this video.
That post roll tip is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
On an unpaid internship rn hoping to get a job n this helps a LOT :D
update
post roll tip is next level
learned more from this than any schooling! damn, so good my dude
This vid lets me know I'm doing it right. I like to record on a red track and drop it to another track just like this. I never learned from a video. It just worked for me best this way!
Dope video bro
Thanks DeeKei!!
You bet!
How to 🐐 101
preferences - editing - then checkbox "Suppress name dialog when creating new playlist" and you will tell me thanks
insane!!
🐡
Not gon lie, you were going hella fast but I feel like imma re watch it till I get it lol
This is critical especially if like me you have to be the recording/mixing/mastering engineer AND the artist😅
Does anyone have an idea of how to do this workflow for Logic?
Is this template available for purchase
my guy talks fast and his fingers are even faster than his words, damn
My recording doesn’t come out using this
Great content!!!
By any chance Dee,.. you have one for Logic?
I may make one soon!
@@DeeKeiMixes please do!!
Are you hitting the stop button or no it never stops ?
Amen of the people
Also on Windows I can't get the cutting, fade in and out, access playlist, and send to playlist to work. And for some reason finding these controls leads to controls I don't want.
make sure the lil yellow box is on for your quick keys to work
By keeping the record track (essentially) always on input, while using the previous take as preroll, it seems you are manually doing what the UAD Apollo Console software does automatically. If you monitor through console, the track is always on and the output of pro tools (read: the last record pass) is in the mix/cue simultaneously.
(Not saying this isn’t valid, but it was just interesting to me that your workflow mimics the UAD Console default behavior)
Almost, except that this workflow is not just for monitoring, its for editing within PT.
Using a UAD apollo 8 interface, in pro tools, when I engage Input monitoring I get latency- UAD's console automatically monitors the singer live at all times anyway, so would it be necessary to leave it on using those "Console equipped" interfaces?
In this case, feel free to use the console monitoring.
Great vid! Right around 7:45 you say that the music will never stop, but it is stopping and starting. When you say never, ever stop: do you mean that figuratively? It does "technically" stop, but only briefly, resetting quickly for the next punch, and for you to be able to move the previously recorded clip down to another track?
You want to minimize stopping the music as much as possible 🤘
@@DeeKeiMixes Thanks for the reply! I’ve been using PT for a long time, done a lot of various sessions, and I still got some nice gems from your vid! 🙌🏻
Thumbs up to you! Please correct me if IM wrong. You're saying .. in quick punch mode .. Pro Tools will record from the pre roll flag to the post roll flag? So its a good idea to set my pre roll to 2 bar for quick playback so the artist can hear the previous vocal take and the last vocal take .. and set my post roll to the end of my beat? Thank you.
Thats right!
@@DeeKeiMixes Thanks again
So when you say the music never stops do you mean literally? I'm not understanding how you can move clips from the record enabled channel while still tracking.
It stops very very briefly. He does come OUT of record, and then grabs that audio clip, while nearly simultaneously hitting record again to continue.
Most of my singers do a whole song at once not stopping and starting but it acoustic rock music so maybe rap is a different recording process
it's really not. nobody is really tracking as fast as he's showing in this video. Most artists mess up say lemme do it again and then need a 2-4 bar window to prep. You're right.
@@thesoundmajors9858 I thought the same way but as you get better the clients get better. This Teezio workflow boosted my skills 1000% its worth watching. thanks again to dee and Lou
Are you guys using HDX?
We are currently only using Native!
hey where can I find this template?
Find @masteredbylu on instagram and click on his link in bio
@@DeeKeiMixes thank you!
template is gone SMH
Lou page has it
if he let the beat play you would be able to see that he is indeed stopping. Cant tell if hes trying to mislead the viewer or if he is confused as to what "never let the music stop" means. Its stopping.
It means to keep the playback moving as much as possible in order it to feel as if the music never stops. There should be very little to no pauses between takes.
@@DeeKeiMixes yes, understood, But your explanation is making people think you are NOT ever stopping. The beat needs to be audible for people to realize this. Ive talked to 2 different people who swear you can edit without stopping because of this video. Just saying.
@@pbm863 I was like that too but if you listen he says make it feel like it never stops and it does have that. When you and the vocalist have that connection there's no need to talk and just start and keep the vibe alive
Wow, bro I am not sure what the hell I just watched, you were moving so fast… you were dropping down the recorded clips into
Playlist tracks or different voc tracks? This is confusing… I don’t think I am ready just yet to understand…I will watch the teezio 4 hour session you mention he did to get a heads up.
He was dropping them into vocal tracks that were routed into the same vocal bus as the armed recording track. They weren’t playlists. He was playlisting takes in the background on the recording track using Ctrl + \ + Enter. The recording track remained in waveform mode so you couldn’t see the playlisted takes. Instead, you can toggle through them by using Shift + Up/Down.
yeah didn't really explain lol just showed how fast he is
Pro Tip: Pay attention to the words being recorded.
Not everyone records like this. Some rappers record 4-6 bars at a time. Take a small pause to drink some water and repeat.
You’re absolutely right
bro, YOU ARE A CHATTY PATTY bro
I just subscribed. What’s software do you use to make your videos? I’m a producer and engineer I want to record myself makeing beats. Thanks 🙏
