Single motherhood due to tragedy is something that should be deeply considered for community. Most single motherhood should always seen as pairs (single mother + absent father).
Especially in a society that so greatly values military service. Sure it's important, but it's creating single mothers and what is actually in place to help them?
Yes.... I am a 69 year old female and I am very aware of this fact, not only is technology hard to keep up with because it is evolving very, very rapidly, but cognitive decline is a real “thing”..... A great question for the American voting public is, “Why are we voting for people who are past their prime and possibly experiencing cognitive decline into positions of power making decisions that result in huge consequences? Who benefits from this trend?
Yes, but at the same time you must weigh that against experience. Any adult knows how important experience is in any facet of life and is impactful in every interaction and decision we make. I was very luke warm on Biden, but after doing a little more reading about his life, I have been more encouraged. He is a man who has evolved constantly, and even during Obama's administration he was a very different man than when he started. That ability and willingness to evolve is what I see in Biden that gives me optimism.
@@binarystar25 Yes I agree and he is 100% a better choice than the alternative was but he is 78 and unless he is a very unusual 78 he is probably experiencing cognitive decline... which will most assuredly affect his decision making... maybe science will pony up and figure this aging phenomena out but they have not as yet...

I tried to answer your question succinctly. The donor class, with the power of money, and lobbying that they wield is the reason why we are 'mostly' voting for people who are past their prime and may well no longer be cognitively equipped for the job at hand. Please see the 7 minute video "Corruption in America" on the Represent.US homepage it covers most of the reasons why we don't have real choices when it comes to representation in our government. I'm sure you will agree that for the most part, especially when it comes to Presidents, we have been voting for the lesser of two evils, this is not real choice. May you and yours be well, j
He's not always right, but he's genuine, positive, and indeed wise. I'm not part of the Yang Gang, but he's definitely one of the few good ones out there. Especially in politics, but even just culturally speaking.
Absolutely. A former Presidential Candidate having a conversation with... A young female singer who's music and art has a very "Alternative" vibe to it and he has her on to talk about AI, tech and politics. (I know she's Elons GF but still, I digress.) If Kamala Harris wasn't VP and instead started a show called "Harris Speaks" there would not be such a casual and accepting vibe. I think we can all imagine Kamala being way over the top, trying to identify with Grimes as being to females and try to talk feminist movement, (which while important Social Issues and Civil Liberties are- if you're from MSM and didn't know- NOT the only thing that womens voices are useful for in politics! As shown here!) I supported Bernie in the Primaries, and was disappointed not only in his loss but his actions before and after conceding. I believe he would have been the Dem Nominee if the DNC didn't have a deck of Aces in their sleeve to use on Progressives. But for some reason, even though he supports Nationalized Healthcare... Even though he talks about giving "free" money to people. Even though I'd say he's not AS progressive as Bernie, (he'd probably claim similar, he's a businessman..) I think he's right on 90% or more of the issues, and agrees with Bernie on a number of things. Even after all that, he still gets a seat at CNN, he still says stuff that no other panelist would say like he did on Election night, and he's NOT called a Socialist, he's not attacked nearly as much (and maybe that would change if Bernie wasn't in their crosshairs the whole time, 2024 Yang could be different story). While I find that fairly ironic and telling about their general feelings towards Bernie for some reason, I am encouraged in the fact that MSM has allowed Yang to gain enough name recognition in this race (the most important thing in nearly any Primary tbh) to have a VERY viable chance at taking home the vote. Again, I'd like him to rethink some things, like taking away the most destitute peoples Welfare and replacing it with simply $1000. I think there's probably more to it than that. And maybe he's explained it better but I've heard him talk about it before, and that's the gist I get. And others arguments against his idea of doing that are more persuasive than his argument for it, but that's the types of issues I disagree on. Real policy... Not WHETHER OR NOT he should have a cabinet FULL OF REPUBLICANS AND LOBBYISTS. Not whether or not people DESERVE $1200 TWO TIMES IN A YEAR?! Not on whether or not Fracking is terrible for the environment.. Dude likes numbers. He likes facts. And while factually he COULD add a lot of numbers to his bank account by towing the line, he simply doesn't.. He remains palatable to the Establishment, which is honestly really smart and helpful... AND he's a joy to be around. You think Obama was funny and charming as president?..... 1st: get out more, and 2nd: Imagine Yang!
Run again, please! For something. Win or not, we want your input! I'll contribute how I can, I like hearing from you, especially if you're on Team Gcrimes too! Thanks Andrew Yang.
with grimes and her education it is important to remember that Quebec is SO VERY DIFFERENT than the rest of canada and Montreal (where her university Mgill is) is basically a super small town. So it is important to keep that in mind and not apply what is true in Quebec or ANY province for that matter to " Canada". since education is controlled at the municipal and provincial level, including grants. In Montreal you can afford rent with a minimum wage part time job. You can find a nice place for 500$ Canadian. In Toronto with a full time job that's slightly above minimum wage you cant even afford rent, let alone food and education. Vancouver is even more expensive. This is coming from someone born in Quebec and is attending school in Toronto.
Yes! We need more single parents in govt so we can have ppl that understand how impossible it is. Especially during covid. You can either have a kid, or a job, but not both.
@@matthewgoodman7588 yes! I really like her! It just is really apparent that not many single parents are in local or national govt. Hopefully that will start to change:)
I sympathize with people who are single parents through tragedy. But I feel a totally different way when knowing that the second half of that parental role is willingly absent from supporting that child and in turn the mother.
@@kevinlopez9883 i sympathize with every single parent because its hard as hell and they get no credit or thought at all when it comes to policy. Politicians have made it literally impossible to simply survive. Schools are closed, daycare are closed or really expensive. I completely agree with having/desiring to watch the videos while listening to her music. Obviously that’s not always realistic and when I can’t do both it feels like half of the experience. Truly one of a kind.
Grimes is such a beautiful soul. She has such a pretty voice and she is super smart. Art is seen in every structure of business and part of life. I am a recipe developer. I love the fun crazy unique food combinations that I place together. I love the donate a dollar button idea. My kids are 28 and 20. Being a parent has a mixture of highs and lows. Single parenthood can be challenging and you need a good healthy support center. Awesome segment loved it.
This is such a great interview! Had no idea music artists were struggling due to so many hands in their pockets. Completely agree with Grimes that consumers should be able to pay any artists directly so the artist themselves can dictate where the money goes.
She deserves so much more respect as an artist and as a person. People look down on her so much just because she's so flamboyant and rare but she is incredibly intellectual
Grimes is one of the most inspiring people to me. Not only the art but the way she is just so herself and like moves around the whole time while talking I feel her a lot. Great video!

Education is not paid for in Canada. It's cheaper than the US definitely, but we still graduate with debt. I'm 32, so I graduated 10 years ago but I was 37,000 in debt after I graduated, and I lived at home. Live on campus, and you can probably double that. It doesn't really seem like much, but to a recent grad entering the job market, it's terrifying....and student loan companies will demand it back in a ten year period, so bye bye to half your monthly salary! And the interest rate you pay is shady has hell...which no one explains to you when you're 17 and have no idea the difference between floating and fixed rates.
Great episode, Im not sure how you do it - but the meta for podcasts atm is if you scroll over the youtube video timeline it breaks the video down into topic segments, so I can quickly navigate to the specific topics I want to hear yours or the interviewees opinions on. Big love for you Yang as always and Zach to you for all youve done in the grind. Og pink hat peace.
I lived in Japan for 22 years and the Bidet was the best. And now I live in Australia. I found a Bidet that works on any toilet without electricity. I recommend using it. My toilet paper usage has reduced and my bottom is thanking me daily.
Preach. My mom was told by her Roman Catholic Priest that I could not be baptized because she and my bio dad whom I have never met were 18 years old and unmarried. This was 1979. The family was against her too back then as well, we all never connected and they looked at me like a child who would never get to heaven because I was not baptized. I find all of this insane. I have an almost 17 year old now and never baptized and never would, it is so important that he learns organically how he feels about what comes next.
Now i realize why i enjoy her music so much, we have such a similar way of thinking , processing information and seeing the visual world. I wonder if this is what her fans also feel after watching this.

It means a lot to me that Andrew and Zach have a good friendship. I am counting on Biden placing Andrew in his administration, and I hope that Andrew brings Zach with him.
Its great to have Grimes on. She actually has ideas of her own. She might be able to find a solution to a problem she hasn’t seen before. Now who won the election?
Being an undecided Canadian voter I have looked into the NDP (as Grimes mentioned here) as a party for me to remain voting for in all upcoming elections. They are anti-war and always look out for workers and the environment. Trudeau sold arms to Saudi Arabia a country which is blockading Yemin and the Conservatives don't care much for climate change themselves. So if anyone feels bad for Grimes not being able to vote NDP in the next upcoming Canadian elections. She just inspired someone who can vote (and donate money) on her behalf. Thanks, and never forget to vote.

Update 2021: Canadian universities are no longer “a few thousand a year”. With 10% tuition hikes per year, they are now $30,000 a year for a business undergrad, for example. It is just like the US.
Grimes is so right about kpop. I wasn’t a kpop fan, but I was aware of it because I love kdramas. However, I recently fell into the BTS rabbit hole because they just have this wholesomeness and genuineness that feels rare in the American celebrity scene. They are also just super talented along many dimensions.
Grimes was criticised before for sort of showing an aversion to the word "mom", saying she struggled to relate to the word. But I think it was premature and probably misunderstood, because she comes across as a really good mom. And she was just being honest I think, a lot of women take time to accept their completely new identity after the birth of a child.
Yes, I agree. I think when she said "I dnt know if I can relate to the word mom" -not an actual quote but I think the public jumped on her for that but we feel how we feel and that's that lol
I dont know what close-to-free college/university she's talking about...its still ~$10 000 per year in Canada. Definitely better costs than in the US, but not everyone has easy access to $40k for public education
Exactly!! I was listening to this aghast. I mean was she on a scholarship sorta thing? As soon as I heard her spiel I started commenting like WTF education ain't free in Canada!! And it is increasingly becoming more expensive. Sure you can take out a student loan. But you still have to repay it.

@@blankline5215 Thanks. Not sure why I just had that flash back, this video triggered a memory. Thanks for the kind words.
I am so sorry to hear that! I hope you are doing better now. You are such a strong person. Being a single mother and working hard, now telling your story. Wish you the best
I’m so sorry. My heart goes out to you.
I’m a senior and didn’t know what to expect from this interview. It was riveting!
The donor class. See unlimited campaign financing and K street.
@@criticalthought7527 i’m barely paying my rent and feeding myself on my Social Security.... @@adbc8213 I feel your pain. I'm in a similar situation (without the degrees, I'm and autodidact.) but really not sure what you are getting at with your reply to me.
May you and yours be well,

Andrew Yang is just a wise wise person.
As shown here!)
I supported Bernie in the Primaries, and was disappointed not only in his loss but his actions before and after conceding.
1st: get out more, and 2nd: Imagine Yang!

with grimes and her education it is important to remember that Quebec is SO VERY DIFFERENT than the rest of canada and Montreal (where her university Mgill is) is basically a super small town.

Single parenthood will make or break the US. Very few voices out there for single parents.
Yes! We need more single parents in govt so we can have ppl that understand how impossible it is. Especially during covid. You can either have a kid, or a job, but not both.
@@willowgem4573 IIRC, Cori Bush is a single mother. She's a good contender for the best representative about to be sworn in.
Young children have to be left alone to do online school while the parent goes to work? I don't understand how its possible unless you can work at home or afford 2k a month for daycare...

This is such a great interview! Had no idea music artists were struggling due to so many hands in their pockets. Completely agree with Grimes that consumers should be able to pay any artists directly so the artist themselves can dictate where the money goes.
"have you actually listened to my music?" I just love her lol and I really enjoyed her talking about how her musical career came to be
She deserves so much more respect as an artist and as a person. People look down on her so much just because she's so flamboyant and rare but she is incredibly intellectual

I love Grimes and I love Andrew Yang so this interview was freakin awesome ❤️

Amazing interview. Just wanted to comment on her saying how art for kids is sort of obnoxious. THANK YOU! I don't have kids but I have nephews so I often see kids' cartoons or toys and it always scares me how bad some of the things for kids are. I believe it's important to expose your kids to good quality content (whether it be books, music, movies etc.) because it plays a great deal in developing their imagination and taste

Love that they even touched on Kpop:) Stellar production in every aspect as well as consistently creative music compared to a lot of other stuff I hear these days. Bro everyone likes Grimes she's been a maymay for years.
