I can't believe how after all these years these people are still so talented. It was really cool that The midnight special would go way back and pay honor in tribute to the 50s music . And to get Jerry Lee Lewis as the host was a great idea. Long live rock & roll. 🙏
I was thirty-four when this show first aired: so you can see its still a hit with all of us R&R and R&B cats in 2023 - fifty yrs later... Just a testimony as to how good the 'Oldie but Goodies' really were and still are... Where's Chuck Berry when you really want to take things up a notch... Well the Rolling Stones always kept the beat going... They made it look so easy to be a solid talented band with jiving tunes to go around...
Only kinda sad thing is these performers - whose songs weren't even 20 years old then - were considered "oldies" acts and couldn't get played anymore on radio except "oldies" stations. Imagine today if Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, and Christina Aguilera were considered old has-beens who could only be seen in 'oldies' performances.
Had she been born a few decades later Ronnie Spector would have been giving J. Lo. quite a big run for the money. Would have been her spinning around the pole at the Super Bowl at age 50
Wow I was going on 6 years old when this was recorded and I have heard and loved many of these songs throughout my 56 years of life. Great video and cheers for posting.
The majority of the run of this show was before my time (I was close to 1 year old when the show ended), and obviously the music is before my time, but man does it bring back childhood memories of my parents listening to it. I'm partial to '90s music, but music from the '50s and '60s is top-notch. They don't have harmony and talent like this anymore.
I would get off work go get a pizza and go to my sister's apartment to watch this. My dad wouldn't let me watch it at home and back then it was one tv in the house
Holy Mackeral ! Saw this when it first aired and had my tape cassette recorder going to record the music. Then about 20 years ago, found a bootleg tape but the quality was pretty lousy. Thank you for posting .
The top level everything here. The quality of image , Jerry Lee Lewis m c ing , and these playing the music and the singers singing the songs. All great.
