Tina Turner doing River Deep is a whole concert in one song. The Killer was everywhere during this time, Hee Haw, and any variety/ talk show he could get booked on, I never knew his earlier scandal, by this time all had been forgotten. BB will be his smooth self, and most of the rest of the artist will, I believe will fall into my favorite category, songs that were the soundtrack of a particular time, but no longer get played on the Oldies stations. Can't Hardly wait!

Me, too, I wrote to James Coile about a year before he died. Had some questions about the name of the band and Billy McPherson, the earlier member of the group. And he politely replied (denying, if I'm not mistaken, your words that they were named after a name of their friend, and saying Billy left before they moved to Los Angeles, and he replaced him there). Is the Seattle recording the one that ends with the song that wasn't released on any of their albums?

Hello MS and all my friends, I'm sorry I missed out on tonight's live chat but I was too over come with the passing of Wayne Kramer a personal friend of mine and who I recently spoke with.
He told me he didn't feel great but wanted to release a new recording "reigniting the spirit of 1968 when we were young revolutionaries, I think we are at a very dangerous time in our history, and if we don't all organize, come together and step up, we could lose it all. Democracy could go away, the forces that we are up against are not joking, this is not playtime, this is serious". MC5 attitude until his end, a true stand up man and musician RIP. This follows the emotional passing of my friend and mentor Peter Brotzmann last year followed by the death of his lifelong manager Jost Gebers, which has been beyond too much too take. I will have my party hat on next week and see y'all then! Thanks for all the hello's and goodbyes in chat! 😉

“River Deep-Mountain High” was written by Ellie Greenwich. She lived a few blocks from me on Long Island. She went to Memorial High School and after she graduated in 1958 taught at my high school MacArthur High School before becoming a songwriter. She eventually married Jeff Barry and together they wrote many early musical classics. I have her “Let It Be Written, Let It Be Sung” album which contains her version of “River Deep-Mountain High” and eleven other great self-written songs. It’s a lost classic.
