Being a 'Parrott Head' of course I've heard of Mac McAnally. He does have a fantastic voice and his songs are great. It always puts a smile on my face when squeaky is the first thing ya hear on starting your videos 😅 Stay safe all and have a great day/evening/tomorrow
Been listening to Mac since I was in college in the late 70s. Love his music! When he came out with Minimum Love I actually thought it was James Taylor singing. Two great talents. They don’t make ‘em like that anymore.
I could hear John Anderson singing good for nothing as well. Thanks Leland for sharing all these amazing tunes and interacting with us all!!! It's a real joy and I'm thankful for it!!! God bless you Brother!!!!

"It's a crazy world, but I live here...and if you can hear me singin', so do you...and I'm turnin' out my nightlight feelin' satisfied...that there's nothin' any one of us can do...no, there's nothin' any one of us can do..." IT'S A CRAZY WORLD was Mac's first single from 1977, and, to this day, over 40 years later, it's still one of my favorite lyrics. "The Belmont, Mississippi Flash," as we called him back home in Mississippi on Jackson's then-WZZQ-FM when we played the egg-suckin' grooves off his first two albums, Mac once found himself sleeping on my sofa, as he needed a place to crash the night before a show (atop a flatbed semi-trailer) he played at what was then Hinds Junior College in Raymond, MS. Great guy, FANTASTIC musician. I have been happy for him from day one.
This guy is wonderful Lee!! I could listen to him endlessly. And you're right...there's a subtle hint of JT in his style and voice. I will look for more of his music on You Tube and everywhere else. Thanks for showcasing him today! He deserved a lot more attention and air play!! Have a great day my friend.
I love it when you take us down the path less traveled. You talking about James Phil Carole Jackson is great but I have heard them ALOT! It is great to hear about others and the background on them. Thanks Lee!
Interesting Oscars ceremony last night. Disappointed that Diane Warren lost. Happy that My Octopus Teacher won. Have a great day, all. See many of you at the Clubhouse tomorrow.
Steuart Smith, fantastic guitarist. Love today's cuts with Mac McAnally. Glad you had a good shoot, working with someone you know. When you're working with someone for the first time, there is some ice breaking in the beginning, trying to make the subject, usually the client, in front of the camera comfortable. I usually chat with the models I'm working with for the first time, asking them what they like to do in front of the camera. It's all about making the shoot easy and natural, and flowing. A good shoot is not taking a gazillion photos; you're not shooting 100 to get one. My shoot today was with a few of the nurses my wife works with, the full works with hair, MUA and wardrobe ... a real glam day for them. It was a welcomed break for them because they've been logging some incredibly long hours the past 4-5 weeks. Have a great week, Lee.
Good evening Leland! As I watched you reflecting over the signatures on Frankenstein, it occured to me how lucky we are to be allowed to participate in the documentation of your auto-biography. Cheers! Have a great day.
This is uncanny how much he does sound like James. Yet I asked around no one seems to of heard him. Thank you. This is the Leland Experience. We are getting experienced .thank you.
"Back Where I Come From" is one of his bigger hits, but most people would know it as a Kenny Chesney song. Long years ago he had a song called "It's My Job," that I still remember.
Diane's song does make me want to check out the movie. I wish my friend still lived in town that I loved doing movies with. Meanwhile I enjoy these shared experiences with songs every bit as much. ❤️
Wow this guy is great!!! And I loved your bass parts in all of the tunes you played. All four selections were fantastic. I heard a little Croce in that last one. Thanks again!!!!
I’ve been a fan of Mac since “Crazy World” in the late 70’s. I love his lyrics, my all-time favorite being: “All these years What have I done? I made your supper and your daughter and your son”
It would be so wonderful if songs like these were still created today. I'm so glad I have access to purchase these cds most of the time. Off to look for Mac. Thanks Leland, have a great day. Doug. Oh yeah, thanks for the Squeak. It's essential! Love Diane Warren. Bub-bye now.
Thanks Leland for this video. To me the important thing is that Nomadland was acknowledged; folks need to recognize the situation us older people have to contend with in retirement. Parks worker, Miami. Bless
Thanks again Lee for making us aware of some excellent music from a less familiar artist. I could tell that you were enjoying listening to it. See you at the clubhouse tomorrow 😀
Thank you for shedding light on Mac! He's sadly under-known. I toured with Curb Records artist, Shane McAnally, now a multiple #1 songwriter, and people would get the names confused all the time.
Aerosmith had only one number one hit and Diane Warren wrote it she is one of the greatest song writers of all time. The Oscars is a popularity contest some times the best artist does not win. Her amazing body of work speaks for itself. Actors and players get the glory although with out the writer their would be nothing to act or play. This is one of the many things I love about you Lee you are a living legend and always remember to talk about the writers and the rest of the cast of characters who compete the project from the writer to the engineer producer and supporting players please never stop doing what you do . BTW I enjoyed Mac McAnally
@@hanspeterlillese2225 Yes believe it or not so many great songs recorded by Aerosmith and that's the only number one on the charts. My personal favorite is No More No More of Toys in the Attic album
Been a fan of Mac’s for years. Saw him play solo at the Old Town Music Hall in Birmingham AL in the early 80’s. Had the pleasure of meeting him a few years ago at the University of North Alabama in Florence next to Sheffield and Muscle Shoals and not only is he an amazing songsmith and musician but is one of the most genuinely nice humans you could ever meet. Thanks for sharing this Lee!!!!
Lucky to have discovered Mac along time ago. Love his work. First saw him at Fulton Chapel in 1978 or so while I as at Ole Miss. Fraternity brothers from Tupelo knew of him and talked me in attending the concert.
"Ordinary Girl" Great song - Nice progression, great arrangement, vocal. Except... there are NO ordinary girls. They are all beautiful creatures. TNX for sharing.
Thanks for giving Mac some love today. I first got to know about Mac during my early days in County Radio and have been a fan ever since. Looking forward to the Clubhouse this week and the squeaky chair!
Hey y'all - good evening El Squeaky One. Mac is a force. Seen him so many times with Jimmy Buffett. Great country rock writer and musician. Jimmy Buffet used to turn his show over to Mac and enjoy him too. Thanks for sharing Lee. This is easily the greatest channel on RUclips. Put yer luv in yer gumbo y'all. Puck in NOLA.
I just saw Mac last night! It was a great, great show! He had Eric Darken with him and OMG what an amazing percussionist! Just thought I’d look around her for some Mac stuff and here you are!! But Mac puts on a great show, tells great stories and man, that voice and lyrics just unreal how good! BTW, I saw you last year with Lyle Lovett and so enjoyed that show, too! I’m ashamed to say I’d never been to a Lyle Lovett show before. I’ve been missing out! So glad to be following you here and listening to all you have to share!
Wide Open Spaces put smiles on our faces! I don't know why that song was not a huge #1 hit. Mac is an exciting songwriter and performer with a brain for lyrics! You were stupendous and creating such interesting bass lines and your train of thought was always to make the recording the thing that matters! Also, the song that started with rhythm guitar and you doing solo bass lines was really exciting to listen to. A genius way to start a song!!!
This was a treat. I heard Mac MacAnally years ago in a small club in Montgomery, AL in the early 80s. A favorite song off one of his albums is, Trying To Make The Yellow Lights Last.

You never cease to amaze Lee. I heard of Mac McAnally via Kenney Chesney; Chesney having recorded some great songs written by Mac. I wonder, who haven't you played with yet that you would really like to?
Mac McAnally's early albums on Arista are the best examples of southern ballads that have ever been. Particularly his first two. His third record was incredible in terms of the insight into the predicaments of the human experience that tended to be the theme for the rest of his ongoing career. His song "Holdin' on to Nothin'" off of his Cuttin' Corners Album is a stunning example of his ability to illustrate relationships we've all been in and couldn't describe. McAnally is one of the greatest lyricists America is or ever has produced. And Mac's song "The Ass and the Hole" may be the greatest song ever written about politics and popular culture.
Lee you are right Steuart Smith is a sick guitarist. Not many people can Duplicate Joe Walsh...Don Felder....and sound exactly like them but Steuart Nails it!!!!!
