    I used to get very anxious hauling into scrap yards. Usually they are very tight quarters. Most yards are kept clean and most of the operators - crane or lift truck with grabbers - are really very good and careful, but shit can and does happen. Occasionally they will run into your trailer and ding it up, sometimes they will drag a piece and scrape your decking. And there is always the potential tire damage. Stay safe, Dan.

    Something else I look for when parking - if the lot is not level, spots that will have my head uphill. When I was starting out, my trainer suggested I do as him and sleep on the other end of the bunk so my head wouldn’t be lower than the rest of my body. I told him I’d be fine, only to wake up the next morning with a headache. Some of us learn the hard way.

Back when you had to un fold a map to see where your going stop at a pay phone to make a call. traffic report came from a cb

    Scrap yard looked like place i delivered in Louisville. My 2nd FB load.
    The shipper was at a chemical plant being dismantled. Got my load pretty quick. However someone said we can put some ranks on top. Had to wait for them to drag the tanks over. 6 hours later I loaded. After taking about an hour to secure the load, could hear them on radio asking about me.
    "I don't know what he is doing we loaded him a long time ago."
    The shipping clerk told me I had to scale out. So i did. Then he ask why I didn't scale in?
    When I delivered at 7 am in Louisville it was dark. It was December.
    Scaled in.
    Took the tanks off
    Rescaled
    Took the rest off
    Scaled out.
    Glad to get out of there

      Tracks wear in multiple areas: between pin and the bore, surface where the rollers run and the surface where the sprocket drives the track. You would have to disassemble, clean, weld up worn areas all with out burning the molded rubber track pads (review Episode # 437 at the 5:41minute). Add down time to that cost. Cheaper to wear the tracks totally out then just replace them.

  • @jjman1982

    Great video as usual Dan. I do have a question and forgive me if it is a dumb one, i am not a trucker. Why do you raise up some in your seat when shifting into reverse? I do not mean to offend. Just didnt know if maybe its hard to get it into reverse or what.

    • @petersampson4635
      @petersampson4635 3 года назад

      Can't say for T.D. but changing 1-18 gears in a forward direction you are pushing backwards and down in your air ride seat. When going into reverse you push over and backwards raising slightly and the air seat also rises pushing you up a little as well. Believe it or not. Well that's been my experience. Ciao

    • @harleyhawk7959
      @harleyhawk7959 3 года назад

      @@petersampson4635 some clutch pedals are on the stiff side, pushing them in too get into reverse just naturally rises you up slightly

    • @starkcd
      @starkcd 3 года назад

      Unlike in a car, a truck's clutch has a 'brake' if you push it all the way to the floor. It stops something (?) in the transmission/clutch from spinning so you can put it into gear. You can't just push the clutch pedal down a little way and slide it into gear. You have to put the pedal all the way to the floor and wait for everything to mesh together or you will grind the gears trying to get it into gear. You can feel it as it comes together into sync. You have to engage the clutch brake going into gear from 'neutral'. For most drivers (that don't have an automatic) that's the only time you use the clutch. Once you are moving you shift without using the clutch.
