Brian: Is that coffee?
John: *NO, It's local... IT'S LOCAL!!!*
When you poor in the jello “why is it on fire !!!”
You have made a fatal decision now we know jason lives in a green house 😈
I was thinking why are they adding all these things into the coffee, that is not how Jason likes it.
This is what Jason ate before making the scavenger hunt
To be honest, yeah, there was a ton of caffeine involved in the Zeta Provocation.
Modern Rogue: "Coffee Jello"
Saiki K: "You called?"

YES!
Finaly i foumd a man of culture in the coments
Hell yeah
Eyyy thats why I clicked the title
I don't remember ever seeing Jason's "study" in a video, but it's exactly how I would imagine it to look like.
It's in a couple of the ad reads
Modern Rogue: you could easily eat pounds of coffee in this form.
Me, drinking coffee by the gallons: Are you challenging me?
The answer is "yes" and "film it."
@@userunknown398 did you watch a medical video of a guy who drank gallons of coffee and went to the medical room?
Eh, I spent years working in IT, we occasionally had blood in our alcohol and coffee streams. Had a power outage once, company running on backup generators, all non-essential equipment switched off, IT working in the dark with the coffee machine on. Boss walks in points at the coffee machine and says "Is this really essential?" and gets a stone faced response from everyone in the room of "Yes" before quietly walking away...
Not sure why people bother with coffee. Just take caffeine pills. 4 200 MG and a 20 oz red bull chaser and your good. Maybe a mountain dew if you get thirsty after that.
*Chubbyemu would like to make a video on you*
This is a weird ending to the Rogue's Gauntlet
This has been a common desert in Japanese cafe's for years. They make a lightly sweetened black coffee, gel it using collagen or agar and form it into bricks that they cut into small cubes or into domes. They then serve in a coupe or parfait glass with sweetened cream poured over. I make this on the first week of every summer month. I love having it as a treat on a hot summer afternoon when I take a brake from working in the garden or detailing one of the cars.
Also, just got my Founder's Club coin. I hope I get to visit sometime soon.
Literally came into the comments to say nigh on this exact same thing and also to mention The Disasterous Life of Saiki K anime/manga :D
While the agar based coffee jelly is common in Japan English coffee jelly recipes calling for gelatin predate it by about 100 years.
@@AikiStig oh that's what this is. Mind blown.
@@crazycodplayer11 I don't doubt it. Collagen based gelling has been around since the advent of glue. The first culinary use for collagen gelatin is recorded in England in the 1600's. Agar takes a lot more processing to extract and is fairly new, even in human timescales; only showing up for use as a growing medium for bacteria and fungi in the late 1800's.
Coffee wasn't introduced to Japan until the middle of the Edo period, when Scandinavian traders (the Dutch, to be specific) managed to get a foothold in Nagasaki on the artificial island of Dejima (mid 1700's). Trading with with westerners was illegal at the time. It wasn't until the tail end of the Meiji that the first coffee shop (cafe) was opened (1888).
Meanwhile, the English had coffee before they even knew what tea was. The first coffee house in England opened in the mid to late 1500's and coffee quickly grew in popularity until the East Indian company managed to bring back the first crates of tea in the late 1700's. After that... well the First & Second Opium Wars were a direct result of the English tea addiction.
I've watched enough saiki to be familiar
"As with most things left on my front porch, i eat 'em"
Heard wizard babies are especially tasty.
Especally now a days
I could not help but notice “The House Of Leaves” sitting in Jason’s bookshelf. Whacky book.
“That looks fancy”... jello on a paper plate 😂
I absolutely love how they do research just to add in small details like Brian mentioning MSG and even give references, it just shows how much time and care they put into these videos
I'm glad you noticed!

Again I love the fact Brian wrote the literal book of fire breathing and still can not recognize hot stuff
If he could recognize hot stuff then he wouldn't have ate fire in the first place.
@@cmck362 Very true
I like to imagine his introduction to fire breathing was just like him staring at a tiki torch and saying “imma eat this!!”
Noooo I just watched the coffee kidney episode on Chubbyemu. This guy drinks 2 gallons of coffee, now presenting to the emergency room.

Familiar but unfamiliar
You should bring more of the production staff on to the show! It’s great way to have more people on the show during the pandemic. I’m sure Grant and Bryce probably have some fun ideas that would be great to feature!
As a coffee addict and a fan of Jello, it's the best of both worlds
We meet yet again
I will paypal you 100 bucks to explain how ypu comment so much
chill it out, take it slow
then you rock out the show
EVERY morning -- after I do my Pilates and Yoga (never before! it's my motivation to get through the tedium of puff, grunt and count)...
EVERY morning it's 8 oz of cold brew base, three scoops (three 1 oz packets if you buy it that way) of gelatin, two scoops of coconut sugar and the immersion blender in an 18 ounce wide mouth mason jar. THEN I add hot (boiling) water (after the gelatin has bloomed - that is absorbed the fluid and plumped up) and whizz it until the gelatin is dissolved... It gets smooth.
In another cup, I have a pat (more than less) of butter and a heaping measured teaspoon of Lions Mane mushroom powder with a bit of boiling water -- apply the immersion blender to that, add in the coffee mixture.
This is breakfast. Through a wide bore straw. 22 ounces doesn't last long.
I'll have to try it without the butter as a solid, but it's possible I'd use decaf for the jello so I could indulge in the afternoon and still be able to sleep.
I'm 70, after all. I appreciate sleep.
MSG is natural and derived vegetarian when you buy it as a standalone product.
McCormack sells it under the name Accent.

A plain black coffee is cigar and whiskey on the rocks level sophisticated now.
And still i prefer it. My boss doesn't like it if we work drunk.
Brian and Jason are the ones with that perfect mythbusters-but-actually-friends on-camera presence, but John is great too and I hope to see him in more episodes.

"ah yes word salad i can have a stroke too" yes tho
No ads and it's eleven minutes, it's crazy seeing people who care about their fans
hahaha when he said "Alexa send me " my alexa went off, lmao i guess i ordered some MSG lmao
For MSG you can also get it in the spice/seasoning aisle of your grocery. Mine is a small cyclinder, I think the brand or thing is just called ACCENT

Man, Harry potter would've sucked if Jason took uncle Vernon's place.
This channel is so strange but I love it
one day I'm learning about how to steal people's identity another day I'm learning how to steal millions of dollars from Banks and then on other days I can figure out if coffee Jello is good or not
You can get MSG in every grocery store, its sold as "flavor enhancer" in a generic looking shaker because theres a stigma against msg, but its the good stuff.
So instead of putting fruit in it how about putting chocolate covered espresso beans? That will bring on the heart palps!
Note; a coffee "cup" is us customary 4oz of coffee... which is half a "cup" of water (8oz)!
Just a little tip for jello poring if you dont want bubbles pour it from higher up as the bubbles will pop on the way down due to surface tension
Public Service Announcement: The primary ingredient in Splenda is glucose, thus it is actually not a sugar free sweetener. If for medical reasons you cannot consume sugar, use saccharine or aspartame. If you are just worried about caloric intake, a sugar packet has only 4 calories. Good day.
I'd be at least cautious with saccharin also as studies on insulin response had mixed results. For sweetening with minimal insulin response I prefer the sugar alcohol erythritol as it's a bit less sweet and allows for more control without as much funky aftertaste as aspartame.
You can actually layer coffee jello, with black on the bottom, cream and sugar in the middle, and some kind of light sweet flavored coffee on top. It looks neat and is really good if you do it right and top it off with some chocolate mousse or whipped cream.
Is no one going to talk about Jason Murphy's extensive comic collection?! Damn son. That looks amazing.
8:08
I like how the paper plate is holding the cake but the nicer one is just for the cover.
John Rael! His comedy skit about things that skeptics say still resonate in my head years later.
Thanks guys!
Caffeine-free Diet coke is my go-to drink. I used to do just Diet Coke and there is definitely a slight taste difference, but I only notice it if I switch between the two regularly.
I am so glad that more and more places are carrying the caffeine-free variants. And those giant "choose-your-own-adventure" style fountain drink machines that gas stations are starting to get are the best.
Just looking at the previous videos...this definitely does not feel like the natural progression of video ideas...and I LOVE THAT 😄
You called that era the "early aughts." I like you. You're my friend now.
Dear TED talk note: I actually like dark roast coffee black. (When not burnt.) Granted, medium and light typically get some cream to them. As well as any coffee that has been burnt or is old as by that point, we've crossed in to the territory of "drinking for effect, not for pleasure."
Most people who don't like strong coffee merely don't like bitter coffee. If you make the coffee correctly you'll probably like strong coffee. 2 Tablespoons of Coffee grounds per 6 ounces of water used, don't skimp here, you can always add hot water after brewing, but you don't want to over-extract the grounds.
This definitely gets you the caffeine buzz you’re looking for but, if anyone wants to keep it black and still have flavor I suggest using agar agar powder in stead of gelatin, it will be a bit more fragile but taste way better, you can find it at most Asian stores.
The only reason to add Sugar and milk to coffee is when the beans have been burnt to take the bitterness away, however at that point it is no longer coffee but a coffee flavoured milk drink. Also my own personal studies show that any sort of sweetner only takes away bitterness but also a lot of the taste. So I would be fighting Bushwood for his black gelatin dessert.
I've watched many animes and coffee jello is one of the most common confectionery foods on there wanted to make it myself but now I know what it tastes like I'm gonna pass
I've watched hundreds of anime and read even more manga but I don't remember seeing coffee jello in any of them, not saying there isn't any I just find it interesting how different people will fixate on different details
DatBoiOrly I actually made coffee jello a few days before this was uploaded! It was really good Especially with creamer! I recommend you make it and check out binging with Babish’s video!
I think you're thinking of Coffee Jelly, the pudding looking ones.
@@googleisacruelmistress1910 yeah just to name a few coffee jello has shown up in one piece, saiki kusuo and a fair few romance animes
@@pixelarts2806 I'll give it a look thanks for the recommendation
I like a light roast brewed very strong, with just a pinch of sugar and a splash of milk. dark doesn't taste rich, it tastes burnt. I only use enough sugar to cut the bitterness a little, I can't stand my coffee to be actually sweet, and the splash of milk is mostly there to cool it down a bit, because I don't have the patience to wait and I sure as hell dont spend 45 minutes on one cup.
You know that guy almost said "I'm gonna give it to him"
So, I'm making lunch and I start thinking about quitting caffeine because it would be good for me. I sit down with my lunch, open up the tubes of you, and discover that Modern Rogue has uploaded a new video. I think I may have to reconsider this quitting caffeine idea for a little while. I need to try my hand at making coffee jello. 😒😂
FYI - For vegetarians, it is Agar powder that you want to buy instead of gelatin.
first minute in, I don't know who that guy is but I like him already
I recommend watching the Binging With Babish coffee jello episode
Everyone needs to see that
OH MY GOD! Dress Pants Robot Man in a Starbucks uniform!! 🤣🤣
Goddamn!! Jason's library!
They have monosodium glutamate (MSG) in almost every grocery store in the spice aisle.
I've had difficulty locating it in any of five different chains I've checked over the past few months. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@@Lunaphire it is usually in a 4" tall, round container. And goes by other names. Around here it is called Accent flavor enhancer. But only has one ingredient, monosodium glutamate.
I am NOT a coffee guy but that's pretty interesting! Jason's reaction was great though!
Brian and Jason from the first episode to the last episode is like a before and after shot
Penn Jillette would be proud. He talks about coffee jello on Sunday school all the time
Nice book collection Jason.
We want the next interactive challenge video! Best video series yet!!!!
1 oz of coffee per 1 egg. Scramble that up put them in small molds and bake for 15 minutes. It was popular in the 1700s
I live a simple life. I see modern rogue, I click.
Based upon the description of the flavor, where it tastes of gelatin first...then you get a coffee aftertaste, I would probably sprinkle something on top of the coffee gelatin (not whipped cream) that would amp up the general flavor profile without turning it into a sugary mess: either freshly ground green cardamom or a light sprinkling of rum. I personally love black coffee, and love sweet and milky coffee...but sweet black coffee is just wrong. Alkalized cacao powder would be another good sprinkle. If it was going to be a proper dessert, I'd add lightly salted cream and sugar to the mix before it set, then top it with either amaretto or creme de cacao as a finish.
The difference between this and what binging is Babish did for this is astonishing XD
accent brand flavor enhancer is literally just pure msg
Jason really changed after quarantine.
I watched this while making coffee ☕️
That Wicked Witch theme during Jason's part tho

If you like coffee and you like jello you will like this? Is what I though coming in. Then I remembered the prison burrito and Jason talking about mayo on a cherry pie, I like both those things but, well you probably saw the episode and get the point.
Jason has an impressive comics collection.
I’m in love with Jason’s marvel comics shelf, feel free to invite me to your house to just read for an hour in silence.
Jason, you give me library envy.
I had coffee jelly once. It tasted like chilled, lightly sweetened coffee. The texture combined with the flavour made it a bit strange. I prefer a pot of regular black, strong coffee.
Jason in his secret lair waiting for Brian to find him:
I wonder what he's doing now...
I love the guy for saying the truth. Black coffee is gross, so is whiskey and especially scotch.
Ask Saiki, he's knows very well
kind of a weird move to be disparaging doctors in the ad of a video right now
Hmmm. Stopped drinking coffee a few years ago. I wonder if I could make tea Jello instead. Seems like it should work.

Pro tip as someone who was looking for MSG at the store: They try to dance around this on the packaging, but the seasoning "Ac'cent" (stupid name, I know) is literally just pure MSG. You should be able to find a huge thing of it at walmart / sam's club. I put MSG on literally everything now that I know where to get it.
Disclaimer: I'm not a shill, it's literally the only brand I could find at walmart and even then they were trying to hide the fact it was MSG from me. I'd still probably go with buying a huge bag of the stuff on the internet after you find out that you like it, but this is an easy way to try it out without buying an entire bag of the stuff.
You should make a video on understanding coffee like you did with whisky and cigars
trying to hold bubbles back with a whisk is classic rogue style...
