I agree with the 9 window drill. It’s absolutely vital to understand how to hit these shots. I’ll even go one step further, and try to fade it with a strong grip, then draw it with a weak grip. Or, swing the club extremely flat, and around my body, then extremely upright, and steep. I think experimenting with “extremes” self teaches you soooo much about the golf swing. Too many people try to replicate ONE SWING over, and over, and over, when they practice. They end up with a 2-way miss, and a “surprise” shot, every time the ball comes off the face. You must be able to eliminate one side of a particular golf hole, and be able to predict your misses to play good golf. I personally like to try and aim for the center of safe, and try to work the ball back to ideal. For example… Pond up the left side, but plenty of room to miss right of the fairway, I’m aiming just into the right rough, and trying to work the ball back to perfect. Or… pin tucked right edge of the green, with no chance of getting it up n down from short-sided, I’m aiming left edge of the green, and trying to cut it.

Never thought about this type of range practice, although I’m familiar with the 9 ball drill from watching Tiger do it. Will start practicing like this on the range and see how it goes. Now my range practice will have purpose. Thanks for sharing. Cheers.

As a natural drawer of the ball, i really struggled with a fade, worse part of my game, i play with a strong 3 knuckle grip, if a fade required i weaken it, but often then hit it straight left, instead of cutting it, and get in big trouble sometimes, I'll give the fade drills a go

Let me know how it goes Richy… word of warning, the amount of knuckles you see on your grip doesn’t necessarily dictate the “strength” of your grip. Good luck!

Make sure you’re not striking heel side - use Daktarin foot spray to confirm impact location before assessing weather it’s your swing or your contact. HTH

Garry - please watch my videos, “101 Early Extension” first and then “You Need This Drill” videos, in that order. In the second video, focus on the light blue band drill and combine with the “101 Early Extension” drill. This will fix your heel strike. Let me know how you go please. 🙂
