I love the exotics and supercars as much as the next, but in all that it's too easy to forget just how enjoyable a normal car can be. Lets be honest, none of us fell in love with driving in an Aventador, or M2CS. We fell in love with driving in our own cars, and so came to appreciate those. Great content! Can't wait for more!

I've purchased more than 33 cars in my lifetime, most of 'em sportscars or sedans in one form or another. When I look back at the most fun to drive of the lot, early 90's Nissan SE-R's immediately come to mind, of which I owned two. Its horsepower? 140. Years later, I owned a modified 385-hp Camaro SS for about six months. Incendiary speed but it was like driving the space shuttle while the Sentra SE-R was like visiting a go-kart track with no time limit. I sold the Camaro because it just wasn't that much fun to toss around. Something that tends to be lost with some of the younger kids who are being introduced to their driving careers expecting mini McLarens from entry level on up. It's much more fun to drive a slower car fast than a fast car slow. This Corolla is a winner and its likely they won't sell many simply due to the observation that most of the comments are lamenting its "lack of horsepower" but take note....Thomas and James were smiling for most of the test drive. They remind us this car is more than enough to make us grin.

Top comment man, thanks!! I am so happy to hear you speak of the first gen (us) SE--R Sentras!! They were SUPER lite weight tiny pocket rocket cars and were very fast autocross cars. Super well balanced chassis and properly braced. They lacked only better brakes. I miss my 1987 Corolla FX-16gts, what a hilarious car it was. Glory days mate!!

It makes a perfect amount of power for this car. Instead of a spoiler how about an LSD. Just with that it seems to me that the car would be more comparable to a Civic SI than just... a weird slightly better handling Corolla.

Back a number of years ago, in 2014 maybe, I bought a 2000 Corolla for $1200 certified from my mechanic who I trusted with my life. This made me wonder what he was up to. I asked him if I was getting a vehicle that was junk. "Nope", was his reply. "You see, this is a standard and NO one knows how to drive a standard so this courtesy car just sits here". I bought it and loved it. I had it for three years and drove it like I hated it. I would dump the clutch at 5,000 and get 50 feet of rubber (there's a video floating around somewhere if you'd like to see it) and even get a chirp out of the tires into second. It was a riot!!! I lived in the hills around Sault Ste. Marie and if I drove it like a hybrid (where I shut the engine down once I'd engaged the clutch), I got over 50 MPG. For the first four tankfuls I put in, I got a smidgen over 55 ... each one.

The stock tires dont do well in heavy rain, I will definitely need snow tires come winter (southern Michigan). Ride is harsh. But I am roughly averaging mid to high 40 mpg in my 15 mile drive to work. Much better than the car I was previously driving, which wasnt bad itself.

Im with James on this one. That price tag is loony tunes. All I saw was you guys shaking from the worst suspension I've experienced in awhile. Such an overly harsh car. The Blizzaks are probablly giving you more cushion than the summers. The standard Corolla is the better car even though it is still overpriced for what you are getting

  • @K03sport

Perfect ending, 9.9/10. I believe this is a "bridge the gap" car. Something newer is coming and Toyota wants to lead up to that moment with an "idea" of 'sporty' Corolla. This Apex ed is that idea. It uses current Corolla parts in an effort to boost sales of the name prior to the release of the next "big" Corolla".
Personally, they (Toyota) need to develop the hatch more and give N.A. a Japanese "Focus SVT" for the 2020s.

Don’t talk about the car that actually the most popular. Most purchased. Also reliability. Toyota people are loyal.

We had a Corolla from 2002 until 2014 and had to replace the front bumper 3 times and since we gave it to our in laws it cracked again. It's so cheap that (even the aftermarket clone bumpers) when it's really cold the bumpers actually crack at the slightest pressure. If you hit one of those winter ice blocks that fall from the back of some cars and trucks it shatters in to pieces. The bumper looks super agressive now as the cracks make it look like teeth from a hungry shark! Has Toyota improved the design and strength of the newer front bumpers?
