    I am not that into repotting videos or plant chores generally, but I could watch you repot seedlings all day. Love the seedling videos. It made me a little jealous because it looked like so much fun that I could also do it all day.

      Also, if you are ever planning on cutting your blue pap, be sure to think of your fellow Canadian 😅

      Oh it’s comin’, don’t you worry! My end-of-year group orders were about 90% Anthuriums. 😆 Thanks for watching! 🤘🏽
      Pap top cut is doing *great*, next leaf came out around 13” long if you can believe it. I’ll show you guys in an update soon.
      And as soon as I start selling anything, I’ll definitely prefer Canadian sales just due to ease of shipping and lack of phyto/export permits etc. I’ll give you guys a heads up on the Community tab or in a video if/when that happens!

    I plan on watching your other videos BUT…..the pot set up is really cool and I haven’t seen this yet. does the extra wicking up through the substrate keep the pin moist? Is that your reasoning behind that? if so, that’s brilliant! total fan 😅

    Great video. I grow seedlings outside here in S FL and temps can dip in high 40 F at times a few times a year. Plants seem ok but what are your thoughts on temperature and any recommendations? Ty

      Good question. I should preface this by saying I can only grow this stuff indoors (Vancouver weather in the fall/winter is rainy and cold at the best of times) most of the year, and the rest of the year I’m too lazy and paranoid to bother trying to move stuff outdoors anyhow. So, tents and cabinets it is. 😆 I envy your FL weather!
      As far as things go indoors with A/C in the summer, I start noticing stuff go downhill once it drops below about 17-18°C (63-65°F) on a continuous basis. Tropicals really don’t seem to like that here. I know in most cases warm weather garden veggies like peppers and tomatoes don’t want to be in sub-10-12°C, so that’s probably a decent range if your plants are already acclimated to living outdoors. I’m sure with humidity you’re still getting a slightly higher effective temp either way, where you’re at.
      Now specifically re: seedlings, and anthuriums was what this video was about, my best guess for outdoor growing would still be to harden them off indoors like any other seedling, and slowly acclimate them to your conditions over the course of a week or two. If you’re talking Alocasia/Colocasia/Caladium, since those often pup in existing soil, you may be able to let those naturally sort themselves out without bring them indoors. This is all guesswork, mind you. 😉
      I’m no expert on growing native tropicals outdoors in subtropical climates, though, so I’d totally defer to someone who has actual experience with it. 🤷🏽‍♂️ All I can tell you is what works well for me here in the chilly and wet Pacific Northwest - hope it helps anyhow!

    Hi there! Can you share links to your DIY pon ingredients? I'm having trouble finding components that are the right size. Thanks!

    • @theproppist
      @theproppist  Год назад +1

      Sure, I’ll dig them up and post back here, I got mine from 3 different places (Amazon and a couple of hardware stores here in Canada), but they were all consistently sized. I’ll get back to you!

      Hey Rebecca - this is the original recipe I had and where I bought the components:
      🪨 DIY PON ===
      - Lava rock (comes in red or black) (or charcoal)
      - Pumice - larger size granules (1/4” - 3/8” minimum)
      - Zeolite (larger granules are better, pet stores are smaller size)
      + (OPTIONAL) slow release fertilizer (e.g. Osmocote Plus fertilizer)
      📝 RECIPE ===
      - Option 1: 1:1:1 ratio + 2 shakes of fertilizer
      - Option 2: Alternate 2 parts pumice : 2 parts lava rock : 1 part zeolite
      🛍️ BUYING LINKS ===
      - PUMICE: amzn.to/43TVJCB
      - ZEOLITE: Branded as "Ecotraction" @ Home Hardware: www.homehardware.ca/en/brands/ecotraction/13348
      - LAVA ROCK: "LavaGrip Anti-Slip Traction Aid": www.homehardware.ca/en/brands/lavagrip/13346
      - OSMOCOTE: amzn.to/3MgSwHj
      I got both the lava rock and zeolite from Home Hardware which is a Canadian hardware store chain (I had them order it in and picked it up, which was MUCH cheaper than ordering it online and shipping the big heavy bags), but you should be able to find them elsewhere as well. I don't use the Osmocote personally because I use my regular semi-hydro nutrient mix with my pon plants instead, FWIW.
      I still have tons of the raw materials left (outside of the pumice, which I use also separately by itself and it's more expensive) and won't need to buy any for ages, which is pretty awesome. Hope this helps!

      No problem, glad I could help. Pro tip - watch out ordering the pumice from Amazon, I ordered twice and the pumice size was totally different in the second bag, even labeled/sold as the same size. If you can find a better source for pumice then maybe avoid the HollandBasics unless you're ok with potentially returning it.
