You really fell into the rabbit hole of plant collecting.
yeah lmao its out of hand
I liked how the foreground looked AFTER you removed the moss. My moss is doing great. Im going to go bigger with it.
We sure are lucky today with 2 in one day , thank you
Excited for that grow light experiment!
You are very exciting!!! I love your videos. You are so honest and real. I love your videos and others also, love you. ❤
Definitely looking forward to the lighting test. Albo Pepper has done a good job on veggies but would love to see something ornamental/tropical plants.
yeah ive seen his stuff, so im very curious
“I guess a rock” had me dying for no good reason
Lol
I love your videos but I love your videos even more when you’ve recently made a trip to Illinois. Hope you had a good time!
? Did you spot me in Illinois lol or did I mention in this video
I think they were talking about your accent being stronger?
I cannot believe you sat that way the entire time 😂 that's amazing! I went to an Ecuagenera pop up earlier this month it was nice ! ended up getting an sp columbia and philo atratum
It's not that people's potting mix dries out more when plants are root bound. The reason plants are happier when root bound has to do with the roots not being given too much space in the pot.
Most people WAY over-pot their plants. When this is done, this is a signal to the plant to spend its time growing roots, not foliage, in order to fill up all that available real estate. So, when a person looks at their plant, in a too-large pot, and says, 'I don't understand why it's not doing anything for me,' it's because the plant is focusing its energy on root growth, not foliage growth (in addition to possibly being over or underwatered and not being given enough light).
Plants are happy being root bound because once the roots reach a critical mass in the pot, they focus ALL of their energy on pushing out lots and lots of foliage.
And remember, the ratio for plants is 2/3 roots; 1/3 pot. Meaning, roots should typically take up the vast majority of what's in the pot, NOT potting soil. The idea of, 'Oh, I'll give my plant lots of room to grow into' is a mistake that lots of plant keepers make. Use the ratio and only up-pot if you feel like it (or just root prune, which is something not enough people talk about) once the plant's roots have filled up the pot.
That's it. That's the 'secret' behind 'plants love to be root bound.' The vast majority of plants don't mind being in that condition, but the reason people see happier plants is because they see TONS of foliage growth.
I pop your videos up while I do my chores.. I love rewatching the experiments you did.. 👍👍👍👍
I just got an order in of a philo heterocraspedon and an anthurium wendlingeri and now I saw you chop things as they came in. I just did the same for my heterocraspedon just for insurance.
fingers crossed they survive!!
"Honey, look at this teenage boy destroying his mom's plants" 😄
The ecuagenra green house in florida is one of my favorite places to go, so many tables with so many plants!
I might go this may
so far the editing and filming on this one is way better 😁 Love it thanks so much for sharing!!!
I thought the tag you were holding up was a pregnancy test to announce a new kid on the way. 😂
Lmaoo it really looks that way
“Devils lettuce” lol
I did the same with my Anthurium oxycarpum. I cut and threw it in the bin and in no time I had 4 growth points growing. The advantage is the amount of roots it has.
Awesome to hear it worked out well!
love the editing, video quality looks great, and I do enjoy a long vid. Really enjoyed this one! Would love to see a long form vid of you going through your plant room doing your regular maintenance, I wanna see all the plants you're working on in there!
i always fill my pots to the brim too and get pissed when all the soil runs out when i water 🙄🙄
Nice plants, fav is the same as you, really like that one 🌱💚
man you live on the edge lol I would never reuse substrate. potential for pests
I recently purchased 3 plants from Aroid Asia I had to get an import license but it was 💯 online and free. Took 10 minutes.
Wow very nice. I will take a look at them!
Dude is so cute fr
I had no idea spaghnum moss is so expensive over there. 1lbs of moss is only €14 ($15.50) over here in the Netherlands.
I just checked prices here (UK) I found a 1.5l bag for £9 though I think it's actually illegal to sell it over here. Or at least a ban is currently being implemented. I know peat based compost is being banned.
You guys have it good here its really inflated it used to be very cheap but it's one of those items they realized they could wrack up the price and ppl will still pay
@@TechplantChannel If it was that expensive over here I'd also try to grow my own spaghnum moss. It sounds like a fun, albeit unfortunately necessary project.
My country is houseplant heaven. We're Europe's import/export powerhouse and we have a huge agricultural sector. Even 'rare' plants and their seeds are easy to get, often within 24h. Growing them from seed is saving me so much money and it's much more fun.
My ecuagenera order will be shipping on Monday and I'm so excited. I might have gone overboard on a couple of orders lol I definitely do not have space for them
lol, I hope they ship well, good luck on your unboxing!
In my experience, it's not good for a plant to be root bound. BUT a lot of people consider a plant root bound when they actually are not, and are good to go in the pot for quite a long time. This is especially true in the bonsai world, and people repot too often.
27:45 didn't you make a video licking plants 2 weeks ago.
yeah lol they were referencing that
roots get rootbound by other plant's roots, plants don't grow in a vacuum in the wild. i figured you'd... know that?
I hate ecuagenera. had a few orders that gone completely ruined. hundreds of shmeckles down the drain.. cos they do not offer refunds (bummer if they say u have to wait half a year for re-ship) and surprisingly are pretty rude to deal with (US and EU, both). the white residue on all plant leaves sucks too, lol. anyway.. loved this video! all insights and shared exp is just awesome. wish there were more sellers that could offer such variety of anthurium imports :) if you find any, pls share with us :D hopefully more healthy specimens arrive too, cos most anthuriums are reeeaal slow growers and it sucks when half of em arrive barely alive heh. but I mean, it's live stuff. can't be too surprised. I wouldn't say I had way better luck with imports from Indonesia. it's a tough business based on a lot of luck too, I guess .)
My queremalense from ecua is nothing but a stump now, too. 😢
Mine too BUT a new growth is cpmming from the side. Have faith lol
What? No Bowie knife?
Just a old rusty ✂️ lol
I swore I wasn't going buy anymore ferns but that one is a zinger.
P.S. Time to ramp up my sphagnum production from 2" year to 4" year ;)
are you already growing some at home? Im totally going to try this year with the sun outside so its free, cuz grow lights will eat into my cost savings
@@TechplantChannel Under lights and rain water. But it only does well for a couple of months before it stalls out. The experiment continues
How many plants did you get??? So jealous
10 total but if you count the two one ill chop i guess 12?
do you have anthurium wendlingeri
?
no they are usually so expensive
Is that your Giant Pothos already fenestrating in the background????
Yup yup 3 slits!!!!
Your thumbnail looks like you're telling us you're pregnant 😂
It was auto picked by RUclips and I thought the same thing and laughed and just kept it lmaoooooo
From the thumbnail I keep thinking you're showing a pregnancy test
it was auto generated and i thought the same so i left it since its eye catchign lol
@@TechplantChannel I mean it's pretty funny. I love it
Someone stop going to the gym 😏
