    I e gotten into anthuriums lately! This video is perfect timing. I got a clarinerinervium about 3 months ago and it hasn’t put out any new growth in my care. The soil looks like pure peat. Hoping the repot into a mix like this does the trick!

    I recently found a study where they tested several kinds of substrates for Anthuriums. Turned out the substrate for best growth and biggest leafs is literally just cocochips with charcoal + fertilizer with NPK 30 10 10, pretty much like Orchids.

      Can you link the study, or since I think youtube deletes those comments, can you tell us the title of the study?

      Yes, because most Anthuriums are actually epiphytes.

      Hard to say what the ‘best’ substrate is, even for orchids because it depends on the environment. So I’m very curious as to what their environmental conditions were….

      @@mindfulmadeline exactly, sometimes i see plants in nursuries with the WORST soil aeration and they're thriving because humidity, airflow, and lighting is perfect.

    Thoroughly enjoyed finding out more in depth information on this species. I haven't dabbled yet, but feel more confident to do so now that I've listened to you sharing. Such beautiful specimens too. I always come away from your videos feeling more knowledgeable. And with the lovely Brad doing his cameos too, sigh 😍

    I know this is a year old, but found your video educational as I have purchased some anthuriums that are still on the small side; they will one day need repotting, assuming I keep them alive for that long lol. Having seen how you repot them and in what media, gives me a good idea of what I need to do when the time comes.

    I love Anthuriums! Hybrids or not I'm obsessed! The chunkier the medium the better in my conditions. Thank you Jan for every video you upload for us, full of information,the only thing I can tell from my experience with anthuriums is that they literally love organic fertilizers. Pity though in Europe we can't purchase Growth Technology Foliage focus.

    Hi Jan! Absolutely love your videos and Brad is the best ever! So glad you include him 🧡🤍
    Just wondering if you see transplant shock in your plants?
    I understand the ones on poles are already so well rooted I have to assume they don’t but for the ones not on poles like the example here - do you see changes? With your next watering following transplant do you still fertilize ‘weakly weekly’? Thanks!

    • @sydneyplantguy
      @sydneyplantguy  Год назад +1

      I don’t really see much transplant shock because they go from aroid mix to aroid mix. So yhe plant is already familiar with it all :) and yes I continue providing nutrients

    I was wondering where you get your sphagnum moss. I’ve just left an extensive comment on the video with Leca Queen about my disappointment with the moss I’ve bought lately and now waiting for my parcel from Amazon which is meant to be best quality NZ moss. I watch how you top dress your anthuriums with that gorgeous looking moss and would like to try to source some for my orchids. I’m enjoying watching your videos and never stop learning. Thanks.

    Hey Jan! I direly need some help. I switched all my houseplants to an Aroid mix but shortly after had some fungus gnats move in, not sure why or how but I think they were liking the sitting moisture in my decorative pots after watering. So now most of my plants are infested. Do you ever have pest issues? And if so how do you get rid of them? With soil it’s much easier because they can’t get deep into the substrate. But with the aroid mix they can climb right down into the pot and lay eggs! Driving me crazy and I just don’t know what to do. Plz do a video addressing pest issues if you can or even just let me know what you do. Thanks Jan!

    Hey, dont you have any problems with the tannin in the coco chips/peat? I used them in some of my anthuriums and they didn't do well, I was wondering if the chips retained too much water and I overwatered or if it was a tannin problem.

    Hello Jan, thanks for yet another excellent video, question after u place the layer of moss on the top, when u water do u still water through? It is to keep the moss moist but not damp to prevent rotting right?

    • @sydneyplantguy
      @sydneyplantguy  Год назад +1

      I just water from the top as normal :) the moss is exposed to the air so no need to worry about it being to wet

    That last repot was really helpful, I’d be really interested to see how it looks throughout the week if possible. Mainly bc I recently started making my soil mix A LOT chunkier than before and some of my plants I desperately need to get out of the old soil mix and into the new bc the new growth is looking WONKYYY lol and I’m assuming anthurium are just as fussy w their roots as the ones I need to repot.
