    Great video! It's always interesting to see how aftermarket components help or detract. 20 years ago it was awful. Now it seems everyone has kinda figured it out.

      couldnt agree more. Im sure there always going to be the next best thing for these motors. Honestly i went back to stock just felt better about it.

    What was the timing at idle and 2000rpm? That is the only thing that really matters. There was no video evidence of a dial back timing light being used.
    Another useful diagnostic tool is a mobile dyno app that will measure 0-60 acceleration and calculate torque & HP.
    Any healthy ignition will support a .050" plug gap, but there is no upside to increasing the gap past .030-.035. Bigger gap= more power draw, more wear & tear to cap, rotor, wires, plugs.
    HTH!

      Yeah i didnt show it on camera but i did time it after the first test drive with a light. Was pretty close by touch on the timing. Really didnt know about the app ill have to check it out. It was just a experiment for me i ended up reverting back to stock a few days later and gapped back to .030-035. It ran great but i like the stock stuff a bit better plus i have extra parts for the stock stuff handy. Thanks for the insight though.

      Hey Jim, I work with this guy on cruiser parts and builds. I finished up the sniper and switched to the DUI (after locking it out) for timing control. Do you have an idea of timing throughout the curve? I have the data off mud for low and high rpm but would love to program a complete, correct curve.

    So the D.U.I. worked fine...how long did you run it?

    • @mizeadventure9438
      @mizeadventure9438  3 года назад

      I didn’t run it for more then a week. I’m using it for another 2f build. A friend of mine runs on on her 40 and has been for years not a bad part

    Question: Does the 19 85 FJ60 have points/distributor cap? does it have electronic ignition or other computer/electronic components?

    • @mizeadventure9438
      @mizeadventure9438  3 года назад

      Early 2fs had points. Newer ones are electronic

    Had a similar experience as well but with an older 74 FJ40 with 1F (F155) engine. The difference was noticeable because the stock ignition was using the old points style distributor which translated to smoother idling and better engine response throughout the rev range. Reverted back to OEM Toyota but using the later electronic type ignition system the reason being the DUI dizzy didn't have spare parts available in my country and I never encountered issues on my other Toyota vehicle using the same Denso ignition system for the past 20 years. There was no difference at all (DUI vs Toyota Electric Ignition System) apart that it was easier to source OEM Toyota parts in my case.

      thanks for sharing! yeah i went back to stock a week later. I think if you want to make your engine bay look cleaner and less trouble shooting then its a good switch over. But ive also seen those distributors just die randomly. Just like the stock stuff better for now.

    I prefer Toyota everything. I’ve seen multiple guys blow up motors with the hei and while that may not be the reason they blew I’d be lying if I said I thought it didn’t play into it

      yeah agreed. I like the Toyota stuff to. Like i said in the video it was a experiment to see if i could see a change in drivability. I already took it back to stock Toyota stuff after driving it for about a week.
